DESCRIPTION:Time for the August First Friday Niter!  Rallymaster Paul McGaffey has written a pure tour course using the Monte Carlo style timing. You will be given “Car Zero Times” at each Checkpoint. Just add your car number in minutes to the Car Zero Time to get your time to cross each Checkpoint. If you get there early\, you may stop or creep without penalty\, so long as you do it safely and out of traffic lanes. The course will take you through the magnificent driving roads of the Santa Monica Mountains and Finish at BJ’s Brewhouse\, 3955 Thousand Oaks Blvd\, Westlake Village. \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This month’s maximum penalty is 60 seconds (1 minute) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/. SUMMARY:CA: June First Friday Niter Series
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, July 7\, 2023\, please join us for an Into the Night rally takeover of the SCCA Cal Club Santa Monica Sports Car Club First Friday Niter. The Rallymaster is Joe Akerman. This rally will be a Monte Carlo/TSD rally\, meaning you get turn-by-turn directions AND your target time at each Checkpoint. All Timed Checkpoints are listed in the Route Instructions and referenced by prominent signs on the course\, in the style of our recent Thunder Road and Two Lane Blacktop rallies. This rally is about 70 miles long and will take about 2 hours. \n\n\n\nThis event aims to enjoy driving sweeping\, challenging back roads at legal speeds while following detailed directions to pass a series of Checkpoints at just the right time. No need for advanced math. No navigational traps or tricks. No riddles and no gimmicks — just beautiful roads to drive with a focus on precision and accuracy. This is a team sport — the Driver and Navigator must work together to get it right. \n\n\n\nThere are no set speeds. Just run at the posted speed limits (the rally is timed at least two mph BELOW those limits and has added pauses where needed). If you reach a timed Checkpoint early\, you can pull over out of traffic lanes and either creep in or stop and wait for your target time to cross the Checkpoint. \n\n\n\nWe will be using the Competitor – Richta GPS Checkpoints app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone\, tablet\, or other Android or iOS device. He describes his rally as “a trip around the rim of the Valley\, the San Fernando Valley.” It really does travel from place to place.  There are some traps on this rally\, but no more than one per leg (and not all legs have traps).  Trap values average about 30 seconds. FYI\, my favorite instruction on the rally is this one:  STRAIGHT(ish) at STOP. \n\n\n\nWe will be using the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. He said\, “The rally is short on miles but long on traps.”   \n\n\n\nTranslated\, ‘It is a short rally\, only about 40 miles; there are\, indeed\, numerous traps…BUT\, there is only one trap per leg\, they are mostly easy to figure out (here’s a hint for one of them – make sure you know what SOL means)\, and all trap values are less than a minute (some much less). There will be a restart after each checkpoint\, and each checkpoint is listed in the route instructions. This means\, in effect\, that the rally is mostly a free zone since you only need to be on time at the checkpoints\, and they are all listed. The rally finishes at Topper’s Pizza Place\, 18417 Soledad Canyon Rd\, Santa Clarita\, 661-222-7888. \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 7 PM\, with a Beginner/Richta App meeting at 740 PM. SUMMARY:CA: Inaugural 2020 Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:This is a Tour rally featuring challenging mountain roads with breathtaking scenery\, magnificent forests and awe-inspiring overlooks. We will have the traditions of the Inaugural Leg\, Banana Leg\, and Sherman Oakes Mark.  \n\n\n\nThe rally will run to SMSCC’s First Friday Niter General Instructions\, which are available on the SMSCC website. The rally will use the Richta GPS Checkpoints timing system for 50+ checkpoints. \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 9:00 AM\, the first car out at 10:01 AM. Beginner and Richta orientation at 9:40 AM. The Inaugural Rally will be about 6½ hours\, and it will end in Santa Clarita.  \n\n\n\nEntry fees are $45 at the Start. Discounts are: $10 off if we receive your entry and payment by February 19th. $5 off if both Driver and Navigator are SCCA members  \n\n\n\nMinors: For a Minor to participate\, an SCCA Minor Waiver must be completed.
