SUMMARY:CA Cal Club First Friday Niter Social Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Join Rallymaster Joanna Weissen for the last FFN by the Cal Club Region Santa Monica Sports Car Club as they go on hiatus. Last year’s January FFN\, the rally will be a tour (no traps) focusing on Christmas light displays\, which were spectacular\, with many lights and a few massive displays. It will likely run in  Burbank and/or Glendale and likely finish at the IHOP on Glendale Ave in Glendale.  \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. It is available on the App Store or Google Play Store or at https://richtarally.com/. There is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks—your Official Time shows in the app! Download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish. \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at www.msreg.com/FFN012025. If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start of the SMSCC events. However\, it helps the organizers print adequate copies of the route instructions and confirm the numbers for the ending location. We start at the Bank of America rear lot in Mission Hills. Rallymaster Rachel Smith has written this rally using some of her favorite roads\, which she says are “all about the view.” The rally will head West along SR 126\, but won’t quite go into Ventura County this time. After a few miles in the local hills\, the rally heads back into Santa Clarita\, ending at Toppers Pizza\, 23710 Valencia Blvd\, Santa Clarita (corner of Valencia and Magic Mtn). Come on out and help us celebrate the club’s 64th Anniversary! \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Competitor—Richta GPS Checkpoints app for timing and scoring\, with timing in tenths of seconds. So\, no guesswork\, no complicated math. DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, July 7\, 2023\, please join us for an Into the Night rally takeover of the SCCA Cal Club Santa Monica Sports Car Club First Friday Niter. The Rallymaster is Joe Akerman. This rally will be a Monte Carlo/TSD rally\, meaning you get turn-by-turn directions AND your target time at each Checkpoint. All Timed Checkpoints are listed in the Route Instructions and referenced by prominent signs on the course\, in the style of our recent Thunder Road and Two Lane Blacktop rallies. This rally is about 70 miles long and will take about 2 hours. \n\n\n\nThis event aims to enjoy driving sweeping\, challenging back roads at legal speeds while following detailed directions to pass a series of Checkpoints at just the right time. No need for advanced math. No navigational traps or tricks. No riddles and no gimmicks — just beautiful roads to drive with a focus on precision and accuracy. This is a team sport — the Driver and Navigator must work together to get it right. \n\n\n\nThere are no set speeds. Just run at the posted speed limits (the rally is timed at least two mph BELOW those limits and has added pauses where needed). If you reach a timed Checkpoint early\, you can pull over out of traffic lanes and either creep in or stop and wait for your target time to cross the Checkpoint. \n\n\n\nWe will be using the Competitor – Richta GPS Checkpoints app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone\, tablet\, or other Android or iOS device. DESCRIPTION:On March 3\, 2023\, grab your favorite musketeer and join the Santa Monica Sports Car Club and guest Rallymaster Joe Batwinis for the 3rd First Friday Niter of the year. There will be three legs with three stages per leg on this Tour rally of the Sierra Pelona Ridge. There are no traps this month and plenty of free zones to enjoy some of the region’s best driving roads. Just ensure you’re on time outside those free zones because the checkpoints are unmarked – like the pre-app days.  \n\n\n\nOn that note\, this rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. He describes his rally as “a trip around the rim of the Valley\, the San Fernando Valley.” It really does travel from place to place.  There are some traps on this rally\, but no more than one per leg (and not all legs have traps).  Trap values average about 30 seconds. FYI\, my favorite instruction on the rally is this one:  STRAIGHT(ish) at STOP. \n\n\n\nWe will be using the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. The max penalty this month is 120 seconds (2 minutes) per leg. All checkpoints are listed in the route instructions with a Restart after each checkpoint. SUMMARY:CA: First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The First Friday Niter Series has a long history with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA California Sports Car Club.  \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 7 PM\, with a Beginner/Richta App meeting at 740 PM. The first car is out at 801 PM. The entry is $25\, with a $10 discount if either the Driver or Navigator is an SCCA Member. Should you run the FFNs regularly\, this becomes an excellent reason to join the SCCA and other discounts available from National. \n\n\n\nWe are still practicing COVID-19 restrictions – primarily wearing masks and social distancing. We continue to use the Richta Competitor GPS app for checkpoints\, so no manned checkpoints or control cards to pass in and out of the car; there’s a new version\, 1.20\, that should automatically update on your phone when you log in. Each checkpoint sign will be clearly shown in the instructions\, so no guesswork will be needed.
