As announced earlier this year at the SCCA National Convention, periodic recertification of RoadRally Safety Stewards (RRSS) and Instructors has been instituted by the RoadRally Board. This requirement will hopefully sharpen the skills of our RRSS and RRSSI and increase the safety of our events. Importantly, it also brings RoadRally in line with other SCCA programs, which already require their Safety Stewards and Instructors to recertify every three years.
An online RRSS training course and knowledge test were developed jointly by RoadRally Board members and National Staff. Existing RRSS and RRSSI were notified earlier this year of the need for and means of accessing the course and given until June 30, 2021, to complete the training and pass the test. To date, a small minority of RRSS and RRSSI have done so. Existing RRSS and RRSSI who do not complete recertification will forfeit their licenses at their next annual renewal.
