SCCA NEOKLA Region Area 51 Road Rally — It Isn’t About the Aliens!!

The team of Jorge Flores and Jimmy LaMay drove their 1998 Subaru Impreza to an impressive overall win at the 2nd Running of the Area 51 Road Rally on Sunday, April 22nd. Rain had soaked the course the day before the 130-mile long mixed surface event and the day of the event looked to be cool and damp. The Rally Master, Garry Deaton, and wife Robin Deaton ran the course at its worst 24 hours before the event and found the roads to be clear of most of the gravel and very fun to drive. The Pre-check Crew and National rally team of Jim Duea and John Pearsall said that parts of the course had reminded them of some of the rally roads in Wisconsin.

Over the past decade or so, clients who simply needed education and direction dwindled and the amount of levitra tablets add-on services provided, such as scalp massages, deep cleaning and topical treatments.

The entrants met at the Osage Casino west of Skiatook, Oklahoma, for registration and the competitor’s meeting. Only the team of Jason Baney and Michael Tritt had rally experience, so all of the teams ran caravan style through the 9.50-mile paved odometer run, the 9.80-mile unpaved odometer run, and a 5.30-mile transit to the first rest break in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. These odo runs were a good prep for the obstacles ahead as they contained open range and the associated livestock.
The teams had their choice of running either Limited Class, which was for the traditional driver only drives and navigator only navigates folks; or Stock Class, in which the entrants could “swap seats” during the event. The legs were divided into paved or mixed with special prizes for the teams that scored the best on each surface. The Loudness of the Lams Award went to the team that did the best on the paved legs, while the Master of the Marbles Award went to the team that did the best on the mixed surface legs. Fittingly, the Lam prize was a set of Lamborghini Hot Wheels, while the Marbles prize was a small gumball machine with gumballs.
The first half of the rally had three mixed legs followed by one paved leg totaling 42 miles and featured seven cattle guards and four low water crossings.
Nate Pittman and Khris Pearce took the initial lead on the 5.41-mile Dog Thrasher in their 2006 Ford Mustang GT with a score of four. Steve and Angela Schoffstall took over the lead in their 2013 Subaru Crosstrek by scoring a zero on the 4.23-mile Bye Bye Birdie. Jason Baney and Michael Tritt were next to inherit the lead with an eight in their 2002 Subaru WRX on the 14.54-mile Horse Pasture. The lead changed yet again at the 18.12-mile Woolaroc leg as Spencer Stevenson and Chance Kidd piloted their 2006 Subaru Impreza in for a zero.
Things would settle down in the second half of the rally. There were four legs again, but this time it was a mixed leg followed by two paved legs with the final leg being mixed. There were 54 miles to be covered as well as 14 cattle guards, a wash, and a low water crossing.
Jorge Flores and Jimmy LaMay took the lead for the first and last time on the 21.66-mile Farewell To Arms with a two. While Flores and LaMay flexed their muscles with a zero on the 7.47-mile The Real McCoy, the team of Forrest and Kortney Holt and their 2005 Subaru WRX lost their way for a second and final time after miraculously using a nineteen and a half-minute time delay allowance on the pre-lunch leg to score a fine seven. The 24.44-mile Bigheart Breakdown and the diminutive 0.72-mile Last Chance proved to be no problem for Jorge and Jimmy as they eased through them with a one and a zero, respectively. Although Kyle Shoulders and Tim Cruz finished sixth, it was believed that they might have had the most fun in their 1983 Subaru Brat.
Flores and LaMay took home the Loudness of the Lams Award while Baney and Tritt won the Master of the Marbles Award.

Asked “Where are the aliens?” the Rallymaster Garry Deaton replied, “If you have been to Wal-Mart or other such retailers, you may have noticed that in the sporting goods section there are extensive state maps. I bought the 1996 version of THE ROADS OF OKLAHOMA.   It is about 120 pages with about 100 pages of 25 X 30 mile maps from east to west and north to south. Page 51 just happens to cover MOST of the rally route.
