SUMMARY:TX: Texas Region Sasha's Children's Book Run Rally
DESCRIPTION:Join the SCCA Texas Region as we close our 2022 Rally season\, supporting a good cause while honoring Sasha Lanz! The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) cordially invites all fellow car enthusiasts to Sasha’s Children’s Book Run Rally\, a Trek rally benefiting the Scottish Rite for Children\, one of the nation’s leading pediatric orthopedic centers. All are welcome\, and no prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nA bit of history: Sasha Lanz was instrumental in building a successful RoadRally program in the SCCA Texas Region and leading it for many years. One of his favorite events was the Children’s Book Run. Entrants were asked to donate two children’s books\, gathered at check-in on Rally Day. Over the six years\, we have held the rally\, hundreds of books were donated to Sottish Rite!  We would like to keep this tradition alive and conduct a Children’s Book Run in his name every year.    \n\n\n\nThis year we plan to conduct the event again as a Trek\, a non-competitive driving event on scenic country roads. No questions\, puzzles\, tricks or traps\, or timed controls\, just a fun drive following a pre-determined route in Collin\, Grayson\, and Denton counties using a “convoy style” format – and a bit of trivia: we’ll pass through 7 towns named after women. We’ll provide basic route instructions as a backup only. Weather permitting\, we’ll stop at one or two places of interest for a group picture. \n\n\n\nEach person in the car is asked to contribute two NEW books for the patients at Scottish Rite. They need books for all ages – 5 through 16 – including Look-and-Find books\, board books\, chapter books\, Spanish-language books\, etc. We will collect the books at registration/check-in. \n\n\n\nWe encourage you to pre-register via this link at Motorsportreg\, where you will find important registration and event details. This helps us plan and have ample copies of the route instructions\, too! \n\n\n\nRegistration/check-in on-site will be open from 10:15 am to 10:45 am\, with a Rally Day Safety Briefing at 10:50 am. Teams leave the start after 11:00 am for the approximately three-hour drive covering 110 miles of countryside.

All vehicles are welcome: sports cars\, family cars\, classics\, antiques\, and anything with four wheels that’s street legal is okay in this Rally. Note: speed is not a factor. \n\n\n\nWe finish around 2:00 PM at El Conquistador Mexican Restaurant in Waco\, where we will share a beverage or meal with fellow rallyists from the Lone Star Region\, who will end their own Waco National Mammoth Monument Rally at this restaurant. \n\n\n\nAfter lunch\, teams may optionally visit Waco sights\, such as the Waco Mammoth National Monument\, Dr. Pepper Museum\, Magnolia Market\, and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum\, before heading home. \n\n\n\nNo requirement for at least two people in each car unless you separate from the group and rely on (backup) route instructions. Contact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the car\, as an official SCCA Waiver form will need to be signed \n\n\n\nWhile same-day registration will be allowed\, we encourage you to pre-register on Motorsportreg.com. The entry fee is $10 per vehicle\, which covers insurance\, route preparation\, and administrative expenses.

SUMMARY:TX: Back-to-Basics RoadRally Series #4 - Roads and Intersections
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, in addition to rallies that we have put on regularly in recent years (e.g.\, Sweetheart Ride\, Tick-Tock\, DFW Map\, Children’s Book Run)\, the Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will be conducting a series of road rallies and schools. \n\n\n\nThe Region is designing these to introduce rallying to newcomers and refresh and reinforce key concepts for our more experienced rallyists. This “Back-to-Basics” series will consist of four events of progressive challenge levels staged over several months. These will be SCCA GTA (Games\, Tours\, Adventures) Social Rallies\, about 45-60 miles and 2 ½ – 3 hours long. We will score them and present awards to the most successful. The objective is to conduct events in accordance with the SCCA RoadRally Rules\, starting with simple rules and instructions. Then each succeeding rally will introduce more advanced topics. \n\n\n\nThere will be a virtual Road Rally School\, six days before each rally\, where we will present the rules and instructions for that rally\, demonstrate “how-to\,” and go through applicable examples. Liz Witt\, Rallymaster for the four B2B rallies\, will be your lead instructor. \n\n\n\nThe tentative schedule for the Back-to-Basics (B2B) events is as follows: \n\n\n\nB2B #1 – Focus on General Instructions\, Route Instructions\, Questions• Rally School (via Zoom session): January 9th• Rally: January 15th – Did You SEE That? \n\n\n\nB2B #2 – Focus on Signs and Landmarks• Rally School (via Zoom session): March 13th• Rally: March 19th \n\n\n\nB2B#3 – Focus on Main Road Concepts• Rally School (via Zoom session): May 1st• Rally: May 7th \n\n\n\nB2B#4 – Focus on Roads and Intersections• Rally School (via Zoom session): May 29th• Rally: June 4th \n\n\n\nThe Rally Schools will be conducted via Zoom and recorded for later on-demand viewing. After each rally\, a packet of materials (General Instructions\, Route Instructions\, Question and Answer Sheet\, Explanation/Critique Sheets) will be made available. This way\, if you miss any of the rallies or schools or only become aware of our program part of the way into the year\, you can watch the recording(s) and run the rally(ies) at your convenience (not scored) to get up to speed on covered skills and concepts. \n\n\n\nThe Back-to-Basics Series will help prepare you for a “course-following” (aka\, trap) rally. We plan to conduct a National or Divisional GTA rally in the Fall\, a perfect opportunity for putting what you learned into practice! \n\n\n\nHead over to Motorsportreg for more information and register today!

SUMMARY:Texas Region Sasha's Children's Book Run Rally
DESCRIPTION:Let’s close out the Rally season supporting a good cause while honoring Sasha Lanz! The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America would like to cordially invite all fellow car enthusiasts to this Trek rally benefiting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. No prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nA bit of history: Sasha Lanz was instrumental in building a successful RoadRally program in the SCCA Texas Region and leading it for many years. Sadly\, Sasha passed away earlier this year. One of his favorite events was the Children’s Book Run. Entrants were asked to donate 2 children’s books\, which were gathered at check-in on Rally Day. Over the course of the five years that we held the rally\, hundreds of books were donate to Sottish Rite!  We would like to keep this tradition alive and conduct a Children’s Book Run in his name every year.    \n\n\n\nThis year we plan to conduct the event as a Trek. This is a rally format recently added to the SCCA RoadRally event mix. A Trek is a non-competitive driving event on scenic country roads. No questions\, puzzles\, tricks or traps\, or timed controls\, just a fun (and stress-free) drive following a pre-determined route in northern Denton County using a “convoy style” format. We’ll provide basic route instructions as a back-up only. Weather permitting\, we’ll stop in Pilot Point for a group picture in front of a historic site. \n\n\n\nEach person in the car is asked to contribute two books\, which must be NEW books due to the Hospital’s current COVID-19 guidelines. They need books for all ages — 5 through 16\, including Look-and-Find books\, board books\, chapter books\, Spanish-language books\, etc. We will collect the books at Registration/Check-in. \n\n\n\nRegistration/check-in: 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Rally Day and Teams depart at 2:00 PMLength: 65 miles (~2 hours)Finish: The Horny Toad Café & Bar\, 5812 I-35\, Denton\, TX 76207\, where we can gather for announcements\, a beverage or meal and to receive a rally mementoRoute: paved roads in northern Denton County\, TexasVehicles: Sports Cars\, Family Cars\, Classic Cars\, Antiques\, anything with 4 wheels that’s street legal is OK in this Rally. SUMMARY:TX: Aftershock National Tour RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Fall to help us celebrate 70 years of the Texas Region SCCA with a fun-packed weekend of National-level RoadRally on North Texas country roads. \n\n\n\nThe follow-up rally of the Trifecta Weekend\, after Saturday’s ONTO Fall National Course and GTA rallies is the Aftershock National Tour Rally. \n\n\n\nThe Sunday Tour rally is a 180-mile scenic tour on the best paved (and mostly good) roads of Collin and Grayson Counties. You’ll encounter just one very short section of gravel with fun speeds and some timing controls in challenging places. Timing will be with the Richta app. \n\n\n\nPre-registration on MSReg.com is recommended – registration opens July 1st. Click here to register today! If you’re running a Saturday event and the Sunday event\, you must register for each separately. \n\n\n\nIn light of the current COVID-19 situation\, every attempt will be made to minimize the risks of exposure to the virus. SUMMARY:TX: ONTO Fall National GTA RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Fall to help us celebrate 70 years of the Texas Region SCCA with a fun-packed weekend of National-level RoadRally on North Texas country roads. \n\n\n\nHere’s what Rick Beattie wrote about the 2019 ONTO Fall National GTA Rally: “The General Instructions described many things like numbered route instruction\, main road determinants\, and course following rules that made it more of an untimed National Course Rally.” Winner Bruce Gezon described it as “really hard\, but nevertheless the best Course Rally he had run that year.” Jerry White described the traps as “just plain fun.” Rallymaster Witt will send you the Generals\, RI’s\, and detailed descriptions of the traps and loops from the 2019 GTA if you email her at lizwitt@yahoo.com. \n\n\n\nWe’re going to do it again with a course-following GTA and a Course Rally. On some of the best rally roads around\, mainly in Collin County. And Texas is usually beautiful in October. \n\n\n\nONTO Fall National Course Rally: Saturday will be a 180-mile course-following rally through the countryside on rural Texas’ beautiful\, paved roads. And with a grand tour of the town of Farmersville\, home of Audie Murphy. Designed for the experienced rallyist\, it will have variable Main Road Rule priorities\, and both numbered and lettered Route Instructions. Additionally\, some of the numbered instructions will have a choice of actions. Speeds will be moderate with the generous use of Free Zones. The Richta app will time you. \n\n\n\nONTO Fall National GTA Rally: The Saturday GTA Rally is also course-following and has many of the same traps as the Course Rally. But it has no lettered instructions\, so many of the traps are implemented differently. You will be scored by your answers to questions designed to determine if you followed the correct course and/or applied the rules correctly. \n\n\n\nPre-registration on MSReg.com is recommended – registration opens July 1st. Click here for registration. You can enter either the Course or the GTA event on Saturday. If you’re running a Saturday event and the Sunday event\, you must register for each separately. \n\n\n\nIn light of the current COVID-19 situation\, every attempt will be made to minimize the risks of exposure to the virus. New processes and procedures have been developed and will be put into place to support this objective. Ultimately\, it is your responsibility to assess the risk to you and to make the decision on whether or not to participate. \n\n\n\nTentative schedule: \n\n\n\nFriday\, October 22nd\, 2021  \n\n\n\n5:00 PM to 8:00 PM                           Check-in at the headquarters hotel  \n\n\n\nSaturday\, October 23rd\, 2021: ONTO Fall National Course and GTA Rallies  \n\n\n\n7:30 AM                                                     Late registration by prior appointment  \n\n\n\n7:46 AM                                                     Car #1 receives Route Instructions  \n\n\n\n8:31 AM                                                     Car #1 starts rally at headquarters hotel  \n\n\n\n~ 5:30 PM                                                  Car #1 finishes rally

SUMMARY:TX: Tick Tock RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to the Tick Tock Rally\, an SCCA Regional Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) tour rally over paved backroads of Denton and Cooke counties. A precision driving event at fun speeds to (re)introduce TSD rallying to the Texas Region. This will be a Monte Carlo-style rally. Course following is easy with mileage on every instruction and a sign reference\, if there is one.  We score you on how close to the perfect time you arrive at checkpoint locations along the route.  No calculations involved.  We tell you where every control is and the perfect time to arrive there.  All you have to do is arrive at that time.  Get one point for each second early or late; a low score wins. \n\n\n\nIt is not a speed or racing contest. You will be timed at the checkpoints by means of the Richta GPS smart phone app.  Scores are automatically reported to the Rallymaster.  No score sheet to fill out. We will send you information on it after you pre-register. Also\, we plan to conduct a Rally School via Zoom (currently scheduled for April 25th) to help prepare for the rally. It’ll include a short test rally that you can run to see how the app works before rally day. We encourage you to attend the School. \n\n\n\nThe rally will begin and end at HL Brockett Elementary School\, with Registration beginning at 1030A. The first car leaves out at 12P + your car number. The route\, laid out by Rallymaster Liz Witt\, is approximately 87 miles\, with two rest breaks along the course where you can get fast food as well. \n\n\n\nRegistration will be on Hagerty Motorsportreg.com\, with the entry fee of $25 for SCCA Members and $35 for Weekend Members. Three classes: First-timer (neither crew member has run a rally before)\, Novice (two rally trophies or less)\, General\, and Master (this is an optional class: no trophies).  \n\n\n\nIn light of the current COVID-19 situation\, every attempt will be made to minimize the risks of exposure to the virus. New processes and procedures have been developed and will be put into place to support this objective. You should not have to get out of your car.  All of the registration materials and rally materials needed for the event will be available online or sent to you via email\, and can be completed and returned ahead of the event or\, if applicable\, you can print them and bring them with you. In some cases (e.g.\, Minor Waivers that have not been notarized) we will witness you signing the completed form. We will also send you the General Instructions and Route Instructions to print out at home. \n\n\n\nUltimately\, it is your responsibility to assess the risk to you\, comply with applicable COVID-19 guidelines and make the decision on whether or not to participate.
