SUMMARY:VT: Winter Challenge Rally
DESCRIPTION:The 15th Annual Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will consist of a single SCCA New England Region rally running from 4 PM Saturday until 2 AM Sunday with two breaks. Although no car-breaking roads will be used\, the majority of the roads chosen are rural and unpaved roads\, which will undoubtedly be snow and ice covered. The rally will go no further east than Littleton\, NH\, no further north than Lyndon\, VT\, no further west than Montpelier\, VT\, and no further south than Randolph\, VT. \nThis year the rally will again be STRAIGHT-FORWARD; no tricks and traps\, perhaps a bit less ‘busy’\, but with two or three opportunities to get off time – but NOT off course! It will\, of course\, be necessary to drive ‘briskly\,’ mostly in the third section. \nThe route of the rally will be approximately 250 miles\, with a maximum distance between gas stops of 90 miles. The break between sections will be about 1 hour. There will be approximately one control per every 9 miles of rallying! (That’s one of the things that makes rallying ‘fun’.) \nMuch of the rally will be run at night on remote back roads. You and your vehicle must be prepared for backcountry winter driving. This means good winter tires or DOT-approved studs\, a warning triangle\, a shovel\, and a tow rope for the vehicle. This means warm clothes\, blankets\, flashlights\, food\, and whatever else you deem essential. \nThe 15th Winter Challenge Rally will be broken into three sections\, each with its challenges and instruction format. \nThe first section will be in the written instruction format. This section will be a TSD rally; a relatively easy course following; I don’t expect people to go off-course! Some TSD experience is always helpful. Boringly slow! \nThe second section will be a combination of 2-15 mile map sections and tulip diagrams\, brisk in places. \nThe third section will be tulip drawings\, with mileages to most instructions; brisk in places. \nOverall the Winter Challenge will be a thorough test of competitors’ rally expertise\, ability to use their heads\, and car control on snowy roads. \nSTART/FINISH: The Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will headquarters at The Hollow Inn. There are some additional lodging options in the area. The Hollow Inn will try and accommodate an early check-in time of 11 AM; ask about it when making reservations. \nDIRECTIONS: From I-89\, take Exit 6 (Rte 63); follow four mi. to the traffic light. Left on Rte 14. On the right\, approximately 3/4 mile. \nFEE SCHEDULE: \nSCCA Member           $ 50.00 \n2 Non-Members         $ 60.00 \nLate                             + $20.00 \nRALLY CLASSES: \n\nClass A: Allows full rally computers and/or extra odos. \nClass S: Stock Odometer in stock location or GPS – odo portion only. \nNo NER Novice \nSCHEDULE:  \nRegistration: 1 PM – 2 PM \nQuestion time (optional): 2 PM \nRI’s given out: 3 PM \nDriver’s Meeting: 3:30 PM (mandatory) \nFirst Car Start: 4 PM + \nFirst Car Finish: 2 AM (approximately) \nAwards/we’ll have some: 3 AM \nGENERAL NOTES: \n\n The rally entry will be limited (30 cars).\n Normal entries close [in hand with proper fee]: Monday\, 4 February 2019\n 4PM start again to allow people from far away to get to the start on time.\n The rally this year will be straightforward – no ‘onto’\, no ‘redundant instructions’\, etc.\n\n The Rallymaster had his fill of these setting up A Bridge Too Far. \n\n The “Question Time” will explain TA’s\, TZ and basic timing info only (not required).\n Rally Generals will not be mailed (posted at www.winterchallengerally.com).\n Rally will run regardless of the weather. \n Recommend for map reading: Large Magnifying Glass\, Dividers.\n Start order: Class A (A ‘draw’ will be held for actual start positions); Class S.\n There will be an adjustment factor between 2-wd & 4-wd in Section 3.\n Ongoing information will be on www.winterchallengerally.com.\n Questions can be addressed via: johnbuffum1@gmail.com (JB).\n This rally tries to emulate the road rallies of the 60s.\n\nThe winner will be\, indeed\, the most versatile and best road rally team!

SUMMARY:MA: New England Cape Codders Old Timers Regional GTA Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Cape Codders Courageous aka 44th Old Timers’ Rally is a “scavenger hunt” of Cape Cod and a low-pressure event. You will be supplied with a map and clues to locations all over the Cape. The object is to determine from the clues where these locations are on the map\, plan the shortest route to those locations\, once at the location\, answer the question(s)\, and do so driving the fewest miles possible. \nEach two person team chooses its own pace. The distance traveled will be at least 120 miles. Above all it is hoped that you will have FUN and maybe learn some things about the Cape. \nRegistration begins Friday evening 730-9P and will resume Saturday morning 730-930AM. \n\n\n\n\nEntry Fees are $45.00 for SCCA members and past Old Timers’ Rally participants\, if received by March 30\, 2018. (Note: NO entries the day of the rally) and $60.00 for non-SCCA members\, non-past participants\, and all late\nentries. Please allow enough time for us to receive entries no later than April 5th as we will not have access to postal mail after that date. No electronic entries signatures are required. \n\n\n\n\nAlso\, remember this is a low-tech event. Use of GPS\, computers and other Internet connectable devices (PDAs\, Smartphones\, Tablets\, etc.) to locate or answer questions OR to plot the shortest route between questions is NOT allowed. \n\n\n\n\nRooms for both Friday and Saturday nights are being held at the Holiday Inn Hyannis\, Hyannis\, MA\, 02601\, until March 23\, 2018. SUMMARY:NH: New England Frost Heaves Regional Tour Rally
DESCRIPTION:Frost Heaves Rally will run on Saturday\, March 24th\, stating at the Hooksett Visitor Center on I-93 in Hooksett\, NH. Finish will be at Buffalo Wild Wings in Concord. This auto event will challenge teams of a Driver and a Navigator to follow tulip instructions as they explore approximately 120 miles of central NH backroads. Expert teams will be challenged to stay on course and on time. Novices are welcome and should have no problem following the tulip instructions.\nOn-line registration closes on 3/21.  Once on-line reg closes\, there will be no more entries.   \nThis event is not a race and all speeds are within posted speed limits. This rally may not be suitable for all cars\, especially lowered cars. Paved and unpaved roads are used; snow\, mud\, and frost heaves may further add to the challenge of the rally. \nCheckpoint workers are always needed and welcome\, get in touch if you want to have some excitement and work checkpoints.
