SUMMARY:PA: Steel Haul Course Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:A sure sign of Spring is the Steel Haul Course and Tour Rallies sanctioned by the SCCA Steel Cities and Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Car Club; this year\, they take place over April 29-30th. Registration will occur Friday evening\, April 28th\, 6-9:00 PM\, in the Holiday Inn breakfast area. \n\n\n\nChuck Larouere will serve as Rallymaster for the Steel Haul Course Rally\, and Carl Staab will Rallymaster the Steel Haul Tour Rally. The rallies are eligible for the National Championships. \n\n\n\nThe Richta GPS Competitor will be used for scoring\, and all teams must have the App loaded on their smart device (phone or tablet) before Registration. \n\n\n\nRegistration is via paper\, and forms with payment shall be mailed to Registrar Rick Beattie\, 352 Woodside Road\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15221. During onsite Registration Friday evening\, Lois Van Vleet will check entry forms for completeness\, have SCCA Adult Waivers signed by both Driver and Navigator and complete the SCCA Membership and Drivers’ License verification. SUMMARY:PA: We'll Cross That Bridge When We Come To It Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:This is a Novice friendly rally on Sunday\, July 30th\, that includes a tour of some covered bridges in Washington and Green Counties. We will have all paved roads but Washington County Tourism Promotion calls these roads ‘narrow and rustic’. This should be a fun rally to drive and the scenery is fantastic from mountain tops to tree lined creek valley roads. Novices will have their own instruction with mileages for each turn.The start is at the “Park and Ride” at East Beau St and I-70 in Washington. Registration opens at 12 Noon. SUMMARY:PA: It’s About Time XXI Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Car Club presents It’s About Time XXI Road Rally on February 21\, 2016. \nRegistration:  Registration is at 12:00PM and the first car starts at 1:01 PM. Rally fee is $10. \nStart: McDonald’s on Route 22 in Delmont. \nThere will be a break at the Sheetz in Blairsville\, and the event will end at the Boulevard Restaurant across US22 from the start. \nDescription: A trap rally with changing main road rules and lettered route instructions (only 5). These will all be on stickers. The course is 65 miles\, and the first car should finish about 4:45 PM. \nTo receive a copy of the General Instruction set by email\, contact Chuck by Thursday Feb 18th at refdesignpit@comcast.net \nWhat beginners should bring with them: \n\nFor starters – there should be two of you in the car: a driver\, and a navigator (who isn’t inclined to get car-sick reading while moving\, or has an antidote for it). \nBring a mechanically sound car* that has a tenths -reading odometer (a resettable trip odometer can be a help)\, a clipboard\, a four function calculator\, several working pens\, a set of highlighters (for marking up the route instructions) and post-it notes. \nIf you can choose between a mechanical odometer that ‘rolls’ and a digital display\, the mechanical will enable you to interpolate to the hundredths. If you only have the digital tenths\, then you’ll have to do a lot more ‘guessing’ in between the numbers clicking over. We have folks who have gotten good at this with practice! \nWhile every team has their own procedure\, it’s useful to be able to highlight things like speed changes\, and free zones (remember – there is a tutorial to get you started!) so that ‘on the road’ it helps you remember them better.  The post-its are to stick on your dashboard to remind the driver of the assigned speeds and what the active course following priorities are. \nAlso – having a good map of the area that includes secondary (and tertiary roads) can be very helpful if you get lost and can’t regain the rally course. \n*While a cell phone and a AAA membership can’t hurt\, a lot of the time\, we’ll be traveling on roads that are well off the beaten track\, and you may not have much of a description of where you are!  ‘Well – we got here by turning left after ‘Snodgrass’\, then right at T\, and left by protection… ‘  While a GPS unit probably won’t help you very much while running the rally\, it may be very useful for telling AAA where you are if you break down.
