As summer comes to a close, school is back in session, and we often define the remainder of the year by holiday planning and ease into the fall and winter seasons. For SCCA, we are just getting started. Between Labor Day Weekend and Halloween, SCCA members will have had the opportunity to experience SIX National Championship events (for the record, for 2023, I will have attended three of the six, maybe four)!
Championship Season wraps up this year with the United States Road Rally Championship (USRRC). Much can be said about our club and all the warts that come with serving 50,000-plus members. All yearning for a personal experience that allows them to live their motorsports dream. I don’t think there is anything more prestigious in amateur motorsports than winning an SCCA National Championship; this includes the long-standing USRRC.
As with Solo Nationals and Runoffs, this year’s USRRC Champions will be recognized with a Champion’s jacket to wear to commemorate the achievement. Maybe it has been done before, or perhaps we are starting something new, but I believe, in my heart, that all SCCA Champions have fought hard to earn the honor and should be recognized accordingly.
While my fall event schedule is a little uncertain, whether I attend in person or following from afar, I am cheering for all in attendance that the event brings you challenge and excitement and fuels your passion for SCCA RoadRally.
Rick Myers is the SCCA Director of Rally/Solo, and we assure you the Paddock reference above is not for a race track or autocross course but for the place he goes to “relax” out with the ponies in the paddock at home. Rick’s other passion is “horsepower” related; he is a Barrel Racer Champion!
