While there was no snow to speak of, the SCCA’s Detroit Region had a nice clear cold day to play around on SE Michigan’s dirt roads! 25 teams, and 11 of them novices, set out from South Lyon at noon, traveling 170 miles to Dexter, Howell, and back to South Lyon.
At the end of Section 1, Mike Bennett excitedly asked me how a 2.3 looked on the scoreboard, but he quickly learned of Adam Spieszny and Piotr Roszczenko’s 1.4 through the first nine controls.
Section 2 saw the overall lead shrink to 0.8, but Andrew and Joe Layton closed the gap for the lead of Equipped Class, finishing the section with 9.9, just 0.4 seconds behind.
In the end, Adam and Piotr held the overall lead through all three sections and brought home their second G class and overall win in a row in Son of Sno*Drift history. Equipped Class stayed incredibly competitive throughout the rally, with Robert Kay and Mike Bennett holding onto the class win with a 13.9, just 0.4 seconds ahead of Daniel and David Harkcom! Bruce Blow and Megan Harlow brought home a solid Stock Class win with a 148.1, 155 ahead of their class competition.
Son of Sno*Drift XXV has always had a high Novice Class turnout, representing nearly half the field this year! Eric Dietrich and Cherese Wyatt finished with a solid score of 164.7, winning Novice and good enough for second in Stock Class! First-timers Jeff Ding and Lindsay Borso brought home second with a 259.7, an outstanding debut performance.
Thank you to everybody that came out and made Son of Sno*Drift XXV a fun, exciting, and successful event!
RReNews note: We queried why 26 teams in standings and 25 mentioned. The Rallymaster clarified that there was a last minute drop and one team ran just the last leg. We were sure some of you eagle-eyed Rallyists would catch that too!
