SUMMARY:Texas Region Sasha's Children's Book Run Rally
DESCRIPTION:Let’s close out the Rally season supporting a good cause while honoring Sasha Lanz! The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America would like to cordially invite all fellow car enthusiasts to this Trek rally benefiting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. No prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nA bit of history: Sasha Lanz was instrumental in building a successful RoadRally program in the SCCA Texas Region and leading it for many years. Sadly\, Sasha passed away earlier this year. One of his favorite events was the Children’s Book Run. Entrants were asked to donate 2 children’s books\, which were gathered at check-in on Rally Day. Over the course of the five years that we held the rally\, hundreds of books were donate to Sottish Rite!  We would like to keep this tradition alive and conduct a Children’s Book Run in his name every year.    \n\n\n\nThis year we plan to conduct the event as a Trek. This is a rally format recently added to the SCCA RoadRally event mix. A Trek is a non-competitive driving event on scenic country roads. No questions\, puzzles\, tricks or traps\, or timed controls\, just a fun (and stress-free) drive following a pre-determined route in northern Denton County using a “convoy style” format. We’ll provide basic route instructions as a back-up only. Weather permitting\, we’ll stop in Pilot Point for a group picture in front of a historic site. \n\n\n\nEach person in the car is asked to contribute two books\, which must be NEW books due to the Hospital’s current COVID-19 guidelines. They need books for all ages — 5 through 16\, including Look-and-Find books\, board books\, chapter books\, Spanish-language books\, etc. We will collect the books at Registration/Check-in. \n\n\n\nRegistration/check-in: 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Rally Day and Teams depart at 2:00 PMLength: 65 miles (~2 hours)Finish: The Horny Toad Café & Bar\, 5812 I-35\, Denton\, TX 76207\, where we can gather for announcements\, a beverage or meal and to receive a rally mementoRoute: paved roads in northern Denton County\, TexasVehicles: Sports Cars\, Family Cars\, Classic Cars\, Antiques\, anything with 4 wheels that’s street legal is OK in this Rally. Note: Speed is not a factor. No requirement for at least two people in each car\, unless you separate from the group and rely on (back-up) route instructionsContact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the car\, as a form will need to be signedRally entry fee: $10.00 per vehicle (covers insurance and preparation and administration expenses)Rally Master: John Poulos

SUMMARY:TX: Back-to-Basics RoadRally Series #1 - Generals\, RI's and Questions
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, in addition to rallies that we have put on regularly in recent years (e.g.\, Sweetheart Ride\, Tick-Tock\, DFW Map\, Children’s Book Run)\, the Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will be conducting a series of road rallies and schools. \n\n\n\nThe Region is designing these to introduce rallying to newcomers and refresh and reinforce key concepts for our more experienced rallyists. This “Back-to-Basics” series will consist of four events of progressive challenge levels staged over several months. These will be SCCA GTA (Games\, Tours\, Adventures) Social Rallies\, about 45-60 miles and 2 ½ – 3 hours long. We will score them and present awards to the most successful. The objective is to conduct events in accordance with the SCCA RoadRally Rules\, starting with simple rules and instructions. Then each succeeding rally will introduce more advanced topics. \n\n\n\nThere will be a virtual Road Rally School\, six days before each rally\, where we will present the rules and instructions for that rally\, demonstrate “how-to\,” and go through applicable examples. Liz Witt\, Rallymaster for the four B2B rallies\, will be your lead instructor. \n\n\n\nThe tentative schedule for the Back-to-Basics (B2B) events is as follows: \n\n\n\nB2B #1 – Focus on General Instructions\, Route Instructions\, Questions• Rally School (via Zoom session): January 9th• Rally: January 15th – Did You SEE That? \n\n\n\nB2B #2 – Focus on Signs and Landmarks• Rally School (via Zoom session): March 13th• Rally: March 19th \n\n\n\nB2B#3 – Focus on Main Road Concepts• Rally School (via Zoom session): May 1st• Rally: May 7th \n\n\n\nB2B#4 – Focus on Roads and Intersections• Rally School (via Zoom session): May 29th• Rally: June 4th \n\n\n\nThe Rally Schools will be conducted via Zoom and recorded for later on-demand viewing. After each rally\, a packet of materials (General Instructions\, Route Instructions\, Question and Answer Sheet\, Explanation/Critique Sheets) will be made available. This way\, if you miss any of the rallies or schools or only become aware of our program part of the way into the year\, you can watch the recording(s) and run the rally(ies) at your convenience (not scored) to get up to speed on covered skills and concepts. \n\n\n\nThe Back-to-Basics Series will help prepare you for a “course-following” (aka\, trap) rally. We plan to conduct a National or Divisional GTA rally in the Fall\, a perfect opportunity for putting what you learned into practice! \n\n\n\nHead over to Motorsportreg for more information and register today!

SUMMARY:TX: Texas Tulip Run Road Rally with the SCCA Lone Star Region
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Tulip Run RoadRally\, with the SCCA Lone Star Region\, starts with viewing the inventory of classic cars for sale at A&E Classic Cars. The initial portion of the route meanders through Central Texas from New Braunfels through Marion\, Santa Clara\, New Berlin to the edge of La Vernia. There will be a stop at Texas Tulips (the entry fee is included with the rally) to enjoy the colorful flowers\, yet buy all the stems and bulbs you desire. The Road Rally will continue taking the scenic route to La Vernia\, St Hedwig\, Schertz\, and other communities until we reach Harmon’s BBQ in Cobolo\, where we will have our social meeting. \n\n\n\nA non-speed social Road Rally\, the route will be along paved roads\, although some have not been paved recently. Registration between 1:00 and 2:00 PM will be at A&E Classic Cars\, so come early and look over the fine classic vehicles. After a safety briefing at 1:45 PM\, cars will be released at intervals to proceed on their scenic journey. It should take between 90 minutes and two hours for this Road Rally as you learn about the history of Central Texas. Questions will be asked along the way\, yet awards will not be based on questions or a car’s finish position. This Road Rally is a fun social outing and a learning event. Children are welcome\, yet insurance requires a waiver signed by both parents. Minors may be either navigators or drivers.  \n\n\n\nThe Social Road Rally fee for this event is $30.00 (the same for both SCCA members and non-SCCA members).  \n\n\n\nThe GOAL of the SCCA is to Have Fun with Cars!

SUMMARY:TX: Sweetheart Ride RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) invites you to join us at Logan’s Roadhouse for Jerry White’s annual Valentine’s Day-themed road rally. It will be about a 90-mile drive on some of the scenic hard surfaced country roads in the Brazos River Valley in Parker\, Hood\, and Palo Pinto Counties. No prior rally experience or SCCA membership is necessary. \n\n\n\nThe challenge is to see how many correct puzzle solutions (many with a sweetheart theme) you can find based on signs and objects along the rally route. Puzzles can have from zero (0) to four (4) correct solutions. One (1) penalty point is awarded for each findable puzzle solution you miss marking as found and one (1) is awarded for each solution you mark as found when it didn’t exist or in some way was not a correct solution. Low score wins. There will never be more than one puzzle active at a time. Think of it as a visual scavenger hunt. \n\n\n\nGoogle Forms will be used to display the route instructions and puzzles and to collect and score you and your sweetheart’s/navigator’s solutions. To use a Google Form\, you will need a browser on a smartphone\, tablet\, or laptop computer to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or cellular data.  \n\n\n\nIn addition\, you will need a separate smartphone to run the Richta GPS Competitor app. It will use GPS signals and a minor amount of cellular data to monitor your time and course and tell you when to stop working on a puzzle and/or prepare to do the next route instruction. You should also participate in the February 12th Zoom Rally School (or watch its recording) and visit roadrally.page to help prepare for the rally. \n\n\n\nAwards: First Timers\, Novices (every person in the vehicle has won 2 or fewer rally trophies)\, and General Class.Optional Master Class for those who want bragging rights\, yet don’t want more trophies.Start and finish at: Logan’s RoadhouseRegistration/Check-In: 11:00am – noon.Mandatory Safety Briefing: 12:10pm.Car 1 receives the code that will allow them to submit their Google Forms: 12:21pm (Car 2\, 12:22pm\, etc.).There will be a rest break approximately midway at a gas station along the course. The first car should finish at Logan’s Roadhouse around 5:00 pm; results will be announced\, and trophies will be awarded around 6:00pm.Click “Submit” on completed Google Forms for instant feedback on what you missed.Vehicles: Sports cars\, family sedans\, pickup trucks\, SUV’s and anything else with four wheels that’s street legal (bring something that you will be comfortable in and will have fun driving on back roads and byways\, many of which are oil & chip). Speed is not a factor.Optional: Get photographed making a splash through a ford (if the weather cooperates and we can find a photographer). At least two people (a driver and a navigator) are required in each car; contact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the vehicle\, as a form will need to be signed.SCCA membership requirements: at least one SCCA Member required in each car\, either regular/annual Member or Weekend Member; if not currently a Member\, you will be able to become a Weekend Member during online pre-registrationRally entry fee: regular SCCA Members $25; Weekend Members $35 (includes membership fee). You must preregister on MotorsportReg.com.About two weeks before the rally the General Instructions will be posted on roadrally.page . The General Instructions will be emailed to those who preregister by then about a week before the event.Contact the Rallymaster if you have any questions.\n\n\n\nCome on out and discover what game/tour/adventure (GTA) rallying is all about! \n\n\n\nAll entrants must preregister – no same-day registration allowed – and you are advised to preregister as early as possible. Notice that registration closes two days before the rally rather than the evening before the event. To preregister\, page down and click on “Continue.” The Rally Committee reserves the right to limit entries. \n\n\n\nThe Sweetheart Ride RoadRally is the second event in the 2022 Texas Region SCCA RoadRally Series. The rally is sanctioned as a Regional Rally by the SCCA under Sanction Number 22-RRRG-57546; it qualifies for Regional Championship points but does not qualify for the National SCCA RoadRally Championship.

SUMMARY:TX: Back-to-Basics RoadRally Series #3 - Main Road Concepts

SUMMARY:TX: Let's Meet at Waco Trek Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) invites all fellow car enthusiasts to this Trek rally down to Waco. A Trek is a non-competitive driving event on scenic country roads. No questions\, puzzles\, tricks or traps\, or timed controls\, just a fun (and stress-free) drive following a pre-determined route using a “convoy style” format. Rallymaster John Poulos will provide basic route instructions as a backup only. All are welcome\, and no prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nWe start in Arlington\, then the Let’s Meet at Waco Trek Rally will wind our way on twisty backroads to Waco\, passing through Glen Rose\, Meridian\, and other points before ending at a restaurant in Waco\, where we’ll enjoy a meal and camaraderie with fellow rallyists from the SCCA Lone Star Region (Austin-San Antonio). We’ll stop for a group picture at one or two sites along the way.  \n\n\n\nRegistration/Check-in at Summit Racing Equipment\, in Arlington\, at 845 AM. We’ll have a Safety Briefing at 915 AM\, and the first car departs at 930 AM. The rally spans a distance of 180 miles\, approximately five hours in length. The route is on paved roads in North Central Texas; we may encounter brief stretches of uneven pavement\, which may influence your vehicle choice on Rally Day. All vehicles are welcome: sports cars\, family cars\, classics\, antiques\, and anything with four wheels that’s street legal is okay in this Rally. Note: speed is not a factor. \n\n\n\nWe finish around 2:00 PM at El Conquistador Mexican Restaurant in Waco\, where we will share a beverage or meal with fellow rallyists from the Lone Star Region\, who will end their own Waco National Mammoth Monument Rally at this restaurant. \n\n\n\nAfter lunch\, teams may optionally visit Waco sights\, such as the Waco Mammoth National Monument\, Dr. Pepper Museum\, Magnolia Market\, and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum\, before heading home. \n\n\n\nNo requirement for at least two people in each car unless you separate from the group and rely on (backup) route instructions. Contact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the car\, as an official SCCA Waiver form will need to be signed \n\n\n\nWhile same-day registration will be allowed\, we encourage you to pre-register on Motorsportreg.com. The entry fee is $10 per vehicle\, which covers insurance\, route preparation\, and administrative expenses.

SUMMARY:TX: Sweetheart Ride Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) invites you to join us for Jerry White’s annual Valentine’s Day-themed Sweetheart Ride Road Rally. It will be about a 90-mile drive on some of the scenic hard surfaced country roads in Johnson and Ellis Counties. All are welcome and no prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nThe challenge is to see how many correct puzzle solutions (many with a sweetheart theme) you can find based on signs and objects along the rally route. Puzzles can have from zero (0) to four (4) correct solutions. Think of it as a visual scavenger hunt. Google Forms will be used to display the route instructions and puzzles and to collect and score you and your sweetheart’s/navigator’s solutions. To use a Google Form you will need a browser on a smartphone\, tablet or laptop computer that can connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or cellular data. In addition\, you will need a separate smartphone to run the Richta GPS Competitor app. It will use GPS signals to monitor your time and course and to tell you when to stop working on a puzzle and/or when to prepare to do the next route instruction.  \n\n\n\nYou should also participate in the February 11th Zoom Rally School (or watch the recording of it) and visit roadrally.page to help prepare for the rally.  \n\n\n\n\nAwards: First Timers\, Novices (every person in the vehicle has won 2 or less rally trophies)\, and General Class. Optional Master Class – no trophies awarded.\n\n\n\nStart at: Fat Daddy’s Sports & Spirits Café\, 781 Debbie Lane\, Mansfield\, TX\n\n\n\nFinish at: Spring Creek Barbeque\, 1724 U.S. 287 Frontage Rd\, Mansfield\, TX (approximately 0.75 miles east of Fat Daddy’s)\n\n\n\nRegistration/Check-In: 11:15am – noon.\n\n\n\nMandatory Safety Briefing: 12:10pm.\n\n\n\nCar 1 receives the code that will allow them to submit their Google Forms: 12:21pm (Car 2\, 12:22pm\, etc.).\n\n\n\nThere will be at least one rest break at a gas station along the course.\n\n\n\nFirst car should finish at Spring Creek Barbeque around 4:30pm; results to be announced and trophies awarded around 5:30pm.\n\n\n\nVehicles: Sports cars\, family sedans\, pickup trucks\, SUV’s and anything else with 4 wheels that’s street legal (bring something that you will be comfortable in and will have fun driving on back roads and byways\, many of which are oil & chip). Speed is not a factor.\n\n\n\nAt least two people (a driver and a navigator) are required in each car; contact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the car\, as a form will need to be signed.\n\n\n\nSCCA membership requirements: at least one SCCA Member required in each car\, either regular/annual Member or Weekend Member; if not currently a Member\, you will be able to become a Weekend Member during online pre-registration\n\n\n\nRally entry fee: regular SCCA Members $28; Weekend Members $40 (includes membership fee). SUMMARY:TX: Come and Take It Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Lone Star Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) would like to invite you to join us for the Come and Take It Road Rally. This rally is to honor the 32 Texican volunteers who left Gonzales on 27 February 1836 for the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. Two days later the detachment entered the Alamo which was commanded by William Barrett Travis and Jame Bowie. Except of Travis’s boyhood friend\, James B. Bonham\, who arrived later that day\, these heroes were the last men to enter the Alamo before it was over whelmed by Mexican forces under President/General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna on March 6 and all of the defenders were killed. This road rally will follow the approximate path of these doomed men from Gonzales to San Antonio (Bexar) but in reverse. \n\n\n\nOn the day of the event\, 25 February 2023\, participants will meet at Dellcrest Plaza in southeast San Antonio at 1:00 PM. After completing a safety briefing\, the rally will began the 90 minute rally at 2:01 PM. The route will visit Martinez\, New Berlin before skirting Seguin and entering Gonzales from the south. The destination is the Gonzales Food Market on Hero’s Square in Gonzales where the group will sample the award winning BBQ and discuss more local history before voting on awards. \n\n\n\nEarly Registration will be through MotorsportReg.com. The price is $25.00 per car regardless of the number of occupants. Children are welcomed but insurance requires that minor children\, under 18\, must have an SCCA Minor Waiver signed by both parents. Each car must have a Driver and a Navigator and each car must have a current inspection sticker and proof of insurance. People who register through MotorsportReg.comwill find the waiver form (must be printed it in color) and may pay online. People may also register by contacting Ken McElroy via contact information below and then pay at the event or just by showing up at Dellcrest Plaza and paying as they fill out the paper work there.

SUMMARY:TX: Moontower 2023 RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:In 1884 and 1885\, Austin\, Texas\, was terrorized by a series of murders\, mainly of servant girls. Seven women\, five black\, and one man were killed. Six women and two men were injured. The eight killings are one of the earliest recorded serial murders\, predating the infamous Jack the Ripper by three years. The killer was never identified\, but the husband of one victim was found guilty but was later exonerated. For more information\, read the Steven Saylor novel\, A Twist at the End. \n\n\n\nThe city of Austin began looking for better ways to illuminate the city to ward off further killings. In 1894\, the city bought 31 artificial Moontowers from the city of Detroit. Tradition said that the 31 original Moontowers were installed in the shape of a Texas Star. The 165-foot towers originally had carbon-arc light bulbs which had to be lit each night and turned off each morning by a watchman who had to ascend to the top of each tower. Each tower illuminated a 1\,500-foot radius. \n\n\n\nElectricity was supplied by the new electric generators in the Austin Dam site at the present-day Tom Miller Dam. In the 1920s\, arc lamps were replaced with incandescent lamps\, which were replaced in the 1930s with mercury vapor lamps. During World War II\, a central switch automated turning all of the lamps on and off to assist with city-wide “blackouts.” Today\, the towers house LED lights. \n\n\n\nIn 1976 the Moontowers were inducted into the National Register of Historic Places. In 1995\, the remaining towers were carefully restored for their 100th anniversary. \n\n\n\nOn the event day\, Saturday\, 17 June 2023\, participants will meet at the parking lot at the corner of 51st and Lamar. Registration will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM\, with a safety briefing at 1:45 PM. After the safety briefing\, cars will be released for the route\, which takes place on city streets. Our destination is The Moontower Saloon at 10212 Mencheca Road in South Austin. \n\n\n\n Early Registration will be through MotorsportReg.com. The price is $30.00 per car\, regardless of the number of occupants. Children are welcome\, but insurance requires that minors under 18 must have the official Minor Waiver signed by both parents. Each car must have a Driver and a Navigator\, and each must have a current vehicle inspection sticker and proof of insurance. People who register through MotorsportReg.com will find the Minor Waiver form (please print it in color) and may pay online. People may also register by contacting Ken McElroy and then pay at the event or at the parking lot at 61st and Lamar and pay as they fill out the paperwork there. \n\n\n\nThis route is along paved city roads\, but there are some fierce speed bumps. Along the way\, you will see hidden portions of Austin and be given items of local history\, and you might even be asked to answer questions about the route. \n\n\n\nIf you experience symptoms of COVID immediately before the event\, your money will be refunded. \n\n\n\nThe GOAL of the SCCA is to Have Fun with Cars! \n\n\n\nEvent Requirements\n\n\n\n1. Each car must have a Driver with a valid driver’s license\, \n\n\n\n2. Each car must have a Navigator who can read English. \n\n\n\n3. Each car must have a current vehicle registration sticker and proof of insurance. \n\n\n\n4. Minor Children (<18) are welcome but must have a Minor Waiver signed by both parents. The Waiver must be printed in color.

SUMMARY:TX: San Antonio 2023 Historic Tour RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:San Antonio has had more battles fought within its city limits than any other town in North America. These battles occurred while San Antonio was under the jurisdiction of Spain\, the Republic of Mexico\, The Republic of Texas\, and the Confederate States of America\, not to mention the United States. This Road Rally will take you to the approximate location of each site. However\, the exact location of some of the sites is unknown\, and other sites were running battles that ranged over several miles. If you want a more detailed investigation of any site\, you are encouraged to revisit any site on your own and at your convenience—the oldest two sites date from 1813\, and the youngest one from the 1870s. \n\n\n\nThis is a non-speed social Road Rally whose route will be along city streets\, and speed bumps may be an issue for some cars. We will start on the west side of San Antonio\, proceed to the far south side\, and then complete our tour just north of downtown. It should take 90 minutes and two hours for this RoadRally as you learn about the history of San Antonio. Questions may be asked along the route\, but awards are not based on questions or a car’s finish position. This RoadRally is meant to be a fun learning event and a social outing where all participants will vote on awards at our final destination. \n\n\n\nOn the event day\, Saturday\, 12 August 2023\, participants will meet at the west side of the Walmart Superstore parking lot in San Antonio. Registration will be from 1:00 to 2:00\, with a safety briefing at 1:45. After the safety briefing\, cars will be released for the route which takes place on city streets. Our destination is The Longhorn Cafe at 1003 Tittiman Road in San Antonio.

The rally starts and ends at Motorsport Ranch (MSR)\, in Cresson\, Texas. All entrants are welcome. No prior rally experience is necessary. \nA precision driving event at fun speeds. This is not a speed or racing contest. Course following is easy with GPS mileages on every turn; there are no tricks or traps on the course. We assign speeds to drive. Your goal is to follow the rally route using written route instructions and arrive at each checkpoint at precisely the correct time.  We will score you on how close to the perfect time you arrive.  Get one point for each second early or late; low score wins. No calculations necessary. \nWe will use the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring. This app will monitor your car’s position during the rally and will record the precise time that you pass each checkpoint on the rally.  Once you have passed a checkpoint\, the app will calculate your score for that leg and announce it to you.  Scores are automatically reported to the Rallymaster.  No score sheet to fill out. We will send you information on the app after you pre-register. There are 37 timing checkpoints in about 70 miles of rally route. \nWe plan to conduct a virtual Rally School via Zoom (currently scheduled for March 29th) to help prepare for the rally (for details and to pre-register for the School\, go to https://msreg.com/TFR26RSmsr ) .
