SUMMARY:OH: Ohio Winter RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Neohio Region\, SCCA invites you to enter the 2025 Ohio Winter Rally (OWR) on February 1! This annual hivernal tour of the Lake Erie “snowbelt” counties of far northeastern Ohio dates back to at least 1966. It was one of the core events of the long-lamented Ohio Rally Championship (ORC) series. \n\n\n\nCompetitors can expect an absolutely straightforward\, gimmick-free Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) road rally\, with an emphasis on precise timing at well-placed controls. Columnar “tulip” style route instructions\, with Official Mileages for all action points (similar to a stage rally routebook)\, will be used. The ~165-mile route will wind through Ohio’s Geauga\, Ashtabula\, and surrounding counties. \n\n\n\nPrevailing road and weather conditions will dictate the rally’s difficulty. Competitors should come prepared to spend extended periods outside in severe winter conditions.  \n\n\n\nTo help teams with limited prior timekeeping experience stay on schedule and to mitigate the possibility of “double jeopardy” penalties from carrying a timing error through multiple controls\, parenthetical perfect cumulative leg times will be provided at all speed change locations. This will be done through the Richta GPS Checkpoints app\, available as a free download for your smart device. \n\n\n\nRegistration and more information are available on motorsportreg.com. However\, it is important to note that there will be no on-site registration\, and online registration closes on Wednesday\, January 29th. \n\n\n\nThe rally will count toward both the SCCA Great Lakes Division (GLD) Rally Championship and the SCCA National Touring Rally (NTR) Championship (Divisional Rally).

SCCA Members are urged to apply for an Annual Waiver to bypass the signing of the paper waivers at each SCCA event. Should either of your team be a Minor (under 18 years of age)\, don’t hesitate to contact Rallymaster Ron Johnstonbaugh to obtain an SCCA Minor Waiver form to be properly executed before the rally by the Minor’s parents/guardian. \n\n\n\nThis rally will be timed with the Richta GPS Competitor automated checkpoint system. Each team must carry a “smart” phone or tablet (Android or iOS) running the current version of the Richta GPS Competitor “app.” Before the rally\, all the checkpoint information (Latitude/Longitude coordinates and target arrival times) will be uploaded to the “cloud.” Teams will receive a password allowing them to download this information for their entry. Competitors will NOT be able to view this information in advance. Upon arrival at each checkpoint\, a team’s device will sound an alert\, displaying the team’s recorded arrival time\, the score for that control\, and cumulative score. The device may also display leg “critique” information provided by the Rallymaster Ron Johnstonbaugh. \n\n\n\nSome helpful Richta user information can be found on the Detroit Region\, SCCA website: http://drscca.org/rally/using-the-richta-competitor-app/ \n\n\n\nTeams are encouraged to register a second (backup) phone or tablet under a “phantom” car number 100 greater than their assigned car number (Car #1/101\, Car #2/102\, etc.). The second device will serve as an arrival time “insurance policy” and help organizers better understand the relative timing behavior of various platforms. It will not be used for scoring unless there is a failure of the primary device.
