SUMMARY:AK: Driving in Circles Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Caution! Bears Working! That is the theme of the 2014 Bear Paw Festival and continuing the long tradition of a Road Rally at the Eagle River Festival\, the SCCA Arctic Alaska Region will sanction the Sunday\, July 13th\, Driving in Cirlces Road Rally. Seasoned team Driver Bill Demming and Navigator Kevin Cose are taking on the duties of Rallymaster and Road Rally Safety Steward for this annual rally at the Bear Paw Festival. \nTraveling through the backroads of the Chugiak–Eagle River Chamber of Commerce neighborhoods in search of Checkpoints\, teams will be de-constructing the routes as the build a score sheet full of zeros! Well\, that is the hope of all the teams during this evening rally. \nYes\, this is an Eagle River event\, yet it  will begin at Carr’s Muldoon\, which is located at the corner of Northern Lights and Muldoon Roads\, with teams needing to check-in between 12-1P to receive their Odometer Check\, sign the insurance waiver\, and get your vehicle tech inspection done. You will do the Odometer Check on the way out to Eagle River\, where the Mile Check ends and the Driving in Circles begins at the UAA Building at Eagle River Road and Artillery Road. \nEntry fees are $15 per SCCA member and $20 for our fellow motorsport enthusiasts\, so both Drivers and Navigators head on over to www.alaskascca.motorsportreg.com and register today! And continuing our tradition — at rallys end there will be an ice cream cone at Carl’s Jr\, right there in Eagle River! \nAll riding in your vehicle must be 18-years of age or have the official Minor Waiver Form signed by parent(s)/guardian. Contact Cheryl at 243-2122 (9A-7P) should you need to obtain a form prior to the rally’s start!

SUMMARY:IL: Ides of March Rally and Rally School
DESCRIPTION:Ides of March Rally and Rally School\nThe Champaign County Sports Car Club and Rallymaster Bill Wagner present the Ides of March Rally and Rally School. The rally will be about 80 miles in length. The start point is Subaru of Champaign County\, Savoy\, IL\, with a mid-point stop at the Dairy Queen in Saint Joseph\, IL and ending back in Savoy\, IL at the Buffalo Wild Wings in the Savoy Plaza. \nRegistration Information:\nSchool Start Time: 11:00am \n Registration Opens: Noon. The entry fee will be $20.00 per team. \nPlease let us know if you’ll attend the school so adequate school materials can be available. \nMinors need a completed Parental Consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Forms can be obtained at registration or printed from the cccsportscarclub.org site. \nParticipants should try to arrive close to the time registration opens so they will have time to certify that the driver’s insurance meets the appropriate state’s standards\, that the driver has a valid license\, that the rally vehicle is being used with the permission of the owner\, is in safe operating condition\, is on the road legally\, and that all its operational items such as lights\, turn signals\, brakes\, horn\, tires\, mirrors\, seat belts\, windshield wipers and windshield washer are in proper working order. \nEarly arrival also gives participants time to listen to the review of the rally’s general rules and to ask other rally participants questions. This last is especially important for those who have never run a rally before. \nWhat to bring if you are new to road rally?\n1. A watch that can be set to seconds\n2. Pen/pencil (highlighters recommended)\n3. Clipboard or lap desk with several pages of blank paper \nTo acquire a copy of the current rally rules\, click here!

SUMMARY:PA: It’s About Time XXI Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Car Club presents It’s About Time XXI Road Rally on February 21\, 2016. \nRegistration:  Registration is at 12:00PM and the first car starts at 1:01 PM. Rally fee is $10. \nStart: McDonald’s on Route 22 in Delmont. \nThere will be a break at the Sheetz in Blairsville\, and the event will end at the Boulevard Restaurant across US22 from the start. \nDescription: A trap rally with changing main road rules and lettered route instructions (only 5). These will all be on stickers. The course is 65 miles\, and the first car should finish about 4:45 PM. \nTo receive a copy of the General Instruction set by email\, contact Chuck by Thursday Feb 18th at refdesignpit@comcast.net \nWhat beginners should bring with them: \nFor starters – there should be two of you in the car: a driver\, and a navigator (who isn’t inclined to get car-sick reading while moving\, or has an antidote for it). \nBring a mechanically sound car* that has a tenths -reading odometer (a resettable trip odometer can be a help)\, a clipboard\, a four function calculator\, several working pens\, a set of highlighters (for marking up the route instructions) and post-it notes. \nIf you can choose between a mechanical odometer that ‘rolls’ and a digital display\, the mechanical will enable you to interpolate to the hundredths. If you only have the digital tenths\, then you’ll have to do a lot more ‘guessing’ in between the numbers clicking over. We have folks who have gotten good at this with practice! \nWhile every team has their own procedure\, it’s useful to be able to highlight things like speed changes\, and free zones (remember – there is a tutorial to get you started!) so that ‘on the road’ it helps you remember them better.  The post-its are to stick on your dashboard to remind the driver of the assigned speeds and what the active course following priorities are. \nAlso – having a good map of the area that includes secondary (and tertiary roads) can be very helpful if you get lost and can’t regain the rally course. \n*While a cell phone and a AAA membership can’t hurt\, a lot of the time\, we’ll be traveling on roads that are well off the beaten track\, and you may not have much of a description of where you are!  ‘Well – we got here by turning left after ‘Snodgrass’\, then right at T\, and left by protection… ‘  While a GPS unit probably won’t help you very much while running the rally\, it may be very useful for telling AAA where you are if you break down.

SUMMARY:VT: Winter Challenge Rally
DESCRIPTION:The 15th Annual Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will consist of a single SCCA New England Region rally running from 4 PM Saturday until 2 AM Sunday with two breaks. Although no car-breaking roads will be used\, the majority of the roads chosen are rural and unpaved roads\, which will undoubtedly be snow and ice covered. The rally will go no further east than Littleton\, NH\, no further north than Lyndon\, VT\, no further west than Montpelier\, VT\, and no further south than Randolph\, VT. \nThis year the rally will again be STRAIGHT-FORWARD; no tricks and traps\, perhaps a bit less ‘busy’\, but with two or three opportunities to get off time – but NOT off course! It will\, of course\, be necessary to drive ‘briskly\,’ mostly in the third section. \nThe route of the rally will be approximately 250 miles\, with a maximum distance between gas stops of 90 miles. The break between sections will be about 1 hour. There will be approximately one control per every 9 miles of rallying! (That’s one of the things that makes rallying ‘fun’.) \nMuch of the rally will be run at night on remote back roads. You and your vehicle must be prepared for backcountry winter driving. This means good winter tires or DOT-approved studs\, a warning triangle\, a shovel\, and a tow rope for the vehicle. This means warm clothes\, blankets\, flashlights\, food\, and whatever else you deem essential. \nThe 15th Winter Challenge Rally will be broken into three sections\, each with its challenges and instruction format. \nThe first section will be in the written instruction format. This section will be a TSD rally; a relatively easy course following; I don’t expect people to go off-course! Some TSD experience is always helpful. Boringly slow! \nThe second section will be a combination of 2-15 mile map sections and tulip diagrams\, brisk in places. \nThe third section will be tulip drawings\, with mileages to most instructions; brisk in places. \nOverall the Winter Challenge will be a thorough test of competitors’ rally expertise\, ability to use their heads\, and car control on snowy roads. \nSTART/FINISH: The Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will headquarters at The Hollow Inn. There are some additional lodging options in the area. The Hollow Inn will try and accommodate an early check-in time of 11 AM; ask about it when making reservations. \nDIRECTIONS: From I-89\, take Exit 6 (Rte 63); follow four mi. to the traffic light. Left on Rte 14. On the right\, approximately 3/4 mile. \nFEE SCHEDULE: \nSCCA Member           $ 50.00 \n2 Non-Members         $ 60.00 \nLate                             + $20.00 \nRALLY CLASSES: \nClass A: Allows full rally computers and/or extra odos. \nClass S: Stock Odometer in stock location or GPS – odo portion only. \nNo NER Novice \nSCHEDULE: \nRegistration: 1 PM – 2 PM \nQuestion time (optional): 2 PM \nRI’s given out: 3 PM \nDriver’s Meeting: 3:30 PM (mandatory) \nFirst Car Start: 4 PM + \nFirst Car Finish: 2 AM (approximately) \nAwards/we’ll have some: 3 AM \nGENERAL NOTES: \n\n The rally entry will be limited (30 cars).\n Normal entries close [in hand with proper fee]: Monday\, 4 February 2019\n 4PM start again to allow people from far away to get to the start on time.\n The rally this year will be straightforward – no ‘onto’\, no ‘redundant instructions’\, etc.\n\n The Rallymaster had his fill of these setting up A Bridge Too Far. \n\n The “Question Time” will explain TA’s\, TZ and basic timing info only (not required).\n Rally Generals will not be mailed (posted at www.winterchallengerally.com).\n Rally will run regardless of the weather. \n Recommend for map reading: Large Magnifying Glass\, Dividers.\n Start order: Class A (A ‘draw’ will be held for actual start positions); Class S.\n There will be an adjustment factor between 2-wd & 4-wd in Section 3.\n Ongoing information will be on www.winterchallengerally.com.\n Questions can be addressed via: johnbuffum1@gmail.com (JB).\n This rally tries to emulate the road rallies of the 60s.\n\nThe winner will be\, indeed\, the most versatile and best road rally team!

SUMMARY:VT: SCCA New England Region Summer Challenge RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Short version – The Summer Challenge Road Rally\, with Rallymaster John Buffum\, will be sanctioned by the SCCA NER and held on Saturday\, June 19th. More information is available on https://winterchallengerally.com or by reaching out to Buffum via email: johnbuffum1@gmail.com. \n\n\n\nJune 13\, 2021: The Entry list with car numbers is posted. To clarify\, the start is at the Park and Ride next to Exit 4  near Randolph\, Vermont. The TECH FORM is also posted – you need to fill this out and bring it with you to get your Route Information. You need to have printed the Generals and Richta info as there will be none given out at Registration. \n\n\n\nJune 8\, 2021: A NEW SAMPLE MAP is posted. The original one left off the important scale. Also\, a new entry list. \n\n\n\nJune 6\, 2021: A new Entry List is posted. \n\n\n\nJune 4\, 2021: The General Instructions\, a Sample Timecard\, and Richta control info are all posted. We have 14 entries\, and a new Entry list will be posted within the week. If you have any questions\, don’t be afraid to email me. \n\n\n\nMay 25\, 2021: The Sample Routes and Info are posted.  No new entries – now’s the time :). \n\n\n\nMay 17\, 2021: The first Entry List is posted. \n\n\n\nMay 10\, 2021: Now that I’ve done an event as a competitor\, I have more insight into what happens during an event. Although it’s not necessary to score well\, it’s nice to actually see the timing point (I never saw any at Seacoast). Now that we have to stay on time – all the time – you need to have a free zone after every “Stop’ (where there isn’t a pause) to avoid speeding after the “Stop.” For a reason I’m not sure about\, the scores are better than in the past; thus\, mileages at the Start of a Leg and Timing CP’s should be accurate to the thousandth of a mile – OR – competitors need to be told that the mileage ‘rolls over’ from whatever happened to be shown on the hundredth-reading odometer at the CP. Example: At the start of an event\, you understand that the start mileage is 0.00(0) – not 0.00(4\, or something); the mileage is understood to be “0” in the thousandth place. At Timing CP’s\, a Rallymaster could decide -and tell competitors – that whatever his odo showed to the CP (in hundredths) is what the next leg starts at. \n\n\n\nApril 28\, 2021: The ENTRY INFO is posted. I’ll be putting up more info here as we go along. \n\n\n\nApril 22\, 2021: I’ve been out on the course a couple of times. It’s a nice new area – South and East of Randolph. There’s a few really good stretches of twisty roads over the Vermont hills. It’s also a nice change from the Winter Challenge (and the Seacoast Scramble) – it’s during the day so you can see the countryside – and maybe see the control locations :)! The Entry info will be up on this site next week. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarch 15\, 2021:  I’ve picked a date for the SUMMER CHALLENGE RALLY – JUNE 19. It will start again like last year – at Exit 4 of I 89 in Randolph\, VT.;  10 am to 5 pm\, running south and east to White River Jct and then back.   More info will be available on this website as we go along; perhaps Entry info on May 1.

SUMMARY:VT: Winter Challenge RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The long-awaited Winter Challenge Road Rally\, sanctioned by the SCCA New England Region\, met its entry cap on February 2nd! \n\n\n\nRallymaster John Buffum will be providing updates for this year’s event: Generals\, Richta GPS Training\, and practice rallies for a map rally and route instructions on the winterchallengerally.com website. \n\n\n\nThe Winter Challenge Rally weekend\, which Vermont SportsCar presents\, will consist of a single New England Regional\, SCCA rally running from 4 pm Saturday until 2 am Sunday with two breaks. Although no car-breaking roads will be used\, the majority of the roads chosen are rural\, unpaved roads\, which will undoubtedly be snow and ice-covered. The rally will go no further east than Woodsville\, N.H.; no further north than Calais\, VT; no further west than Randolph\, VT; and no further south than Sharon\, VT. This year the rally again will have straightforward course instructions\, with a few bits to keep your mind occupied early in the event (about the same as in 2017); you do need to pay attention and drive ‘briskly.’ \n\n\n\nFor 2022\, the classes: \n\n\n\n\nClass A    Calculating equipment may receive a direct input from a mileage-measuring device.  Typical calculating devices in this Class include: Alfa\, Chronar\, Timewise\, and Zeron rally computers.\n\n\n\nClass L    If distance information is acquired only from a mechanical odometer\, it must be manually fed into any calculation device; the distance measuring device must be separate from the calculation device.  (e.g. Curta calculators\, tables\, laptop computer\, electronic APP\, programmable and nonprogrammable electronic calculators.   If the distance information is derived solely from GPS signals\, then any electronic APP may be used.\n\n\n\nClass S   Distance information must be visually acquired from the vehicle’s stock\, non-adjustable odometer in the stock location.

SUMMARY:Cal Club First Friday Niter Social Roadrally
DESCRIPTION:Uh\, oh! The April First Friday Niter is on April Fool’s Day! Come on out to the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA Cal Club\, and see what Rallymaster Larry Scholnick has planned for you. He said\, “The rally is short on miles but long on traps.”   \n\n\n\nTranslated\, ‘It is a short rally\, only about 40 miles; there are\, indeed\, numerous traps…BUT\, there is only one trap per leg\, they are mostly easy to figure out (here’s a hint for one of them – make sure you know what SOL means)\, and all trap values are less than a minute (some much less). What’s really amazing\, is that all of the traps are different! It’s an excellent chance to see how good your rally skills are! \n\n\n\nThe rally finishes in Camarillo at Topper’s Pizza Place\, 425 Arneill Rd\, (805) 385-4444 (call ahead on your way to the finish so your pizza will be ready when you get there). \n\n\n\nWe are using the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. The maximum penalty for this FFN is 3 minutes (150 seconds) per leg\, and all checkpoints are referenced in the route instructions. Before you arrive at the start\, please download the Richta Competitor app to your phone; it’s a free download for Android and Apple devices. There is no need for additional timing equipment\, your Official Time shows in the app! \n\n\n\nPlease register here on MotorSportReg at msreg.com/FFN042022\, it helps us plan for how many cars will be attending and makes registration quicker for you. If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start at the Bank of America rear lot\, 10300 Sepulveda Blvd (Sepulveda and Devonshire) in Mission Hills. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm.
