SUMMARY:OR: Northwest Classic Car Challenge
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, the NW Classic Car Challenge will have it’s 34th running over the August 3-6th weekend. The rally will hold close to its roots\, featuring a classic TSD (time-speed-distance) road rally complete with MRDs/TRAPS\, rigorous course following (using OR and ITIS instructions)\, and this year we have added a relaxed Tour rally. Both travel wonderful twisty backroads from Portland\, OR to Eugene\, Oregon\, over two days of driving. \n\n\n\nBut we have also made some changes to change with the times. First\, you no longer need an old car to participate. We ENCOURAGE new sports car owners to join! We have special recognition planned for new Alfa owners. But ANY suitable modern car can sign up. If you don’t want to drive that finicky Spider or MG\, you can bring out your Mustang\, BMW\, or… \n\n\n\nOur presenting sponsor\, Vintage Underground\, forged another change to encourage new and younger participants. The tour can now be a traditional “follow-the-leader” format or ON YOUR OWN with a simplified route book. And all tour participants can take some pictures along the way\, like their car going through one of the seven covered bridges or other landmarks along the route. If they post the photos to Instagram or FaceBook with the event hashtag #NWCCRALLY\, they receive a raffle ticket for items raffled during the Awards Brunch on Sunday. The goal is to encourage and engage tour participants and have something for them to look forward to on Sunday besides the People’s Choice “Concours and Coffee.” \n\n\n\nAlso added to Sunday is a classic\, 1960s-style gymkhana. There is no cost; teams can watch\, participate\, or both (see details below in the comprehensive schedule). As of April 25th\, we have 34 RALLY entries and eight TOUR entrants at the time of writing. We expect 50-60 cars in total. \n\n\n\nHere is the planned schedule for the 34th NW Classic Car Challenge. The committee has created an enjoyable and complete weekend with social aspects and events beyond just a RALLY or a TOUR. It is a true bucket list event! \n\n\n\n#NWCCRALLY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday Eve\, August 3rd\, 5–9:00 PM – SCRUTINEERING PARTY at Ron Tonkin Alfa Romeo in Beaverton. Come out and see the cars — everyone is welcome! \n\n\n\nFriday\, August 4th\, 8:00 AM – Ceremonial start of the NW Classic Car Challenge Rally and Tour from Ron Tonkin Alfa Romeo with a TV crew like Tony Martinez\, a Shriner as the starter\, and Scott Fisher has agreed to be the announcer. \n\n\n\n• SPECTATOR AREA along the route: Friends\, family\, and photographers cheer on the cars as they pass through a spectator point in the Portland/Tigard area. \n\n\n\n• Catered Lunch at the ZCBJ Hall in Scio\, OR. WiFi will be available for uploading Tour Challenge photos. \n\n\n\n• Day 1 ends at Valley River Inn\, Eugene ~4:30 PM\, with BEER sponsored in the parking lot \n\n\n\n• Evening Banquet – 6:30 PM with a slide show and KaHoots! Trivia Game \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, August 5th\, 8:00 AM  – NW Classic Car Challenge Rally and Tour departs \n\n\n\n• Catered lunch in Cottage Grove\, Oregon area\, featuring Salmon! \n\n\n\n• Day 2 ends at Valley River Inn\, with a rose\, presented to each car \n\n\n\n• Cars will be escorted to the BEER WASH area\, where contestants are handed a bucket/sponge and fresh towels\, along with a beer\, and they wash their car. Why clean the car after the days’ adventures? So that after the lovely social evening\, they’re ready for Sunday morning’s Concours and Coffee in the parking lot with the PEOPLE’s CHOICE voting. \n\n\n\n• Cocktail Hour follows the Beer Wash at 5:45 PM with a slide show \n\n\n\n• Banquet Dinner starts at 6:45 PM\, with the featured Speaker at 7:45 PM \n\n\n\nOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\n\n\n\nSunday Morning\, August 6th\, 7:00 AM – Concours and Coffee\, with voting until 9:00 AM. There is a hired Security Officer each evening to oversee the parking lot. \n\n\n\n• Awards Brunch\, 9:00 AM – Trophies presented to TSD Rallyists and draw raffle tickets for Tour Challenge contestants who gained tickets by doing well in the photography challenge. \n\n\n\n• 10:30 AM Special projected photo recognition for top Porsche on the Porsche Club stage\, for top NEW GUILIA\, and TOP PLACING 4C\, etc.\, and of course\, our CONCOURS winners are announced. \n\n\n\n• 11:15 AM – Adjourn for “FUNKHANA” in a nearby parking lot. Optional slow-speed driving event with challenges like STOPPING on a DIME\, TOSSING a ROD\, DRIVING A SLALOM in reverse\, hitting a blow-up clown while blindfolded\, and finally hitting a GIANT SOCCER BALL thru a goal. No trophies\, no cost\, just good fun!

SUMMARY:OR: AROO Rally Cup Finale Rally and Tour
DESCRIPTION:This event will be the AROO CUP Rally #4 and determine the season champions. However\, EVERYONE in any kind of car is encouraged to sign up for this special rally\, even if you have never done one before! The rally will not be difficult to follow\, will visit some awesome roads\, and will have about 25 checkpoints over 7 scored legs. We will also have a TOUR that follows the same roads but has no rally/TSD instructions\, so drive for fun! \n\n\n\nThe rally will start at Cook Park in Tigard. 8:30 AM with cars on display (unofficial Concours and Coffee) and a Driver’s Meeting at 9:30 AM. The Tour Cars depart at about 9:45\, and the First Rally Car Out at 10:00. There will be a Morning Break at Bald Peak Park and a leisurely catered box lunch at a picnic area in Yamhill County from 11:45 – 1:00 PM. The afternoon break is at Champoeg Park (near Butteville). \n\n\n\nWe have a special dinner planned that you just MUST stay for! The final part of the rally takes us into Butteville for dinner at the famous Butteville General Store. Arrival time is approximately 5:45 PM. Dinner is $35/person\, payable at the table. \n\n\n\nThe Butteville General Store is the oldest operating Retail Establishment in Oregon! \n\n\n\nThe menu includes Santa Maria Tri-Tip marinated in burgundy and pepper\, barbecued over oak wood\, oak-grilled chicken thighs with mustard vinaigrette\, garlic bread\, potatoes with cheddar and green onion\, mixed green salad with candied pecans\, and homemade ice cream for dessert. Did someone say “YUMM”? Best of all\, the restaurant is normally closed on Sunday but is opening just for us “car people”! \n\n\n\nPricing:RALLY is $80/car (driver & navigator). Lunch is included\, but dinner is separate. \n\n\n\nLONG TOUR (with a Leader or on your own) is $80/car (driver + guest). Lunch included; dinner separate. \n\n\n\nSHORT TOUR — We’ve created a SHORT TOUR starting approx 4 PM from the Dicks Sporting Goods parking lot near the Bridgeport Village that will rendezvous with the long tour at Champoeg State Park. The driving tour is about 75 minutes long\, covering about 43 miles. From there\, everyone will head to the Butteville General Store for their amazing dinner at $35/person. \n\n\n\nThis is a unique opportunity for all of us in AROO to experience this location\, surrounded by fellow Alfisti and Car People! The best part of this tour is that it is free! If you choose to head to the Butteville General Store on your own without the tour\, that’s OK\, too! DESCRIPTION:The AROO CUP Mini-Rally Series\, sanctioned by the Alfa Romeo Owners of Oregon\, is starting with the first of four rallies on March 2nd\, followed by April 13\, May 4\, and June 1\, in their 2025 season. Everyone is invited to try a 2-3 hour TSD road rally!\n\nTSDs (time-speed-distance) navigational drives are fun and challenging. They begin at 10 AM at Cook Park in Tigard. Plan to arrive about an hour early for the social aspect and the Drivers’ meeting. Every rally ends at a BBQ or Pizza joint for debrief and decompress. DESCRIPTION:The AROO CUP Mini-Rally Series\, sanctioned by the Alfa Romeo Owners of Oregon\, is starting with the first of four rallies on March 2nd\, followed by April 13\, May 4\, and June 1\, in their 2025 season. Everyone is invited to try a 2-3 hour TSD road rally!\n\nTSDs (time-speed-distance) navigational drives are fun and challenging. They begin at 10 AM at Cook Park in Tigard. Plan to arrive about an hour early for the social aspect and the Drivers’ meeting. Every rally ends at a BBQ or Pizza joint for debrief and decompress. SUMMARY:OR: 47th Annual Old Spider Tour
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the Alfa Romeo Oregon Owner’s premier driving tour of the Spring\, with a new 160-mile route to the North Coast! Bill Gillham is once again leading the 47th Annual Old Spider Tour. For this edition\, Bill has designed a new route that comprises 160 miles of roads we (mostly) have never used for a tour or rally before. The route kicks off in the central Willamette Valley and then takes on the legendary Nestucca River Road over to the Cape Meares Lighthouse near Tillamook.\n\nThe drive should take around four hours and includes three rest breaks along the way. Afterwards\, enjoy a nice lunch along the coast with your fellow travelers. Be sure to RSVP to Bill Gillham at hooligan.racing.llc@gmail.com!\nThe Old Spider Tour starts from the Santiam River Rest Area\, Southbound I-5\, West Parking Lot\, south of Jefferson at approximately Milepost 241. We’ll start with a Driver’s Meeting at 950 AM\, and the Tour departs at 10 AM sharp!\n\nThe run is open to all. Please bring what you have\, but Old Spiders are the honored model\, so they will have the privilege of leading the tour.\n\nTo our Portland Area Participants — Meet at the Baldock Rest Area just south of Wilsonville on I-5 Southbound at approximately Milepost 281 at 9 AM. Gather in the far back parking lot and be ready to depart at 9 AM.
