SUMMARY:PA: USRRC 50th Anniversary Little Appalachian Rally
DESCRIPTION:Clyde Heckler\, Rallymaster\, is celebrating an anniversary during the 2023 United States Road Rally Challenge (USRRC) on Friday\, October 20th. This year’s Little Appalachian National Course Rally is the 50th Anniversary year of his first rally for the SCCA Philadelphia Region in 1973. It is also the first National Championship rally sanctioned by the Philadelphia Region since the 1983 Appalachian Road Rally\, 40 years ago! \n\n\n\nThe 50th Little Appalachian will be a throwback event\, as it is a course rally of moderate difficulty and will use the Abridged RoadRally Rules. It uses a fixed priority list\, including the principal road rule. There are no main road determinants\, yet we’ll use the onto rule and letter instructions. The route will be in Chester County\, known for its horse farms\, and Lancaster County\, an Amish area. \n\n\n\nAt the rally’s conclusion\, the contestants will head down to New Jersey for the final two rallies of the USRRC – The Jersey Devil National Tour and Up the Creek National Course Rally by Rallymaster Jim Wakemen. \n\n\n\nThis rally will use the Richta GPS Competitor App and the SCCA Abridged RoadRally Rules. \n\n\n\nHere are some images from the early years of the Appalachian National Rally: 1960 Rally Regulations and the 1958 rally plate.

SUMMARY:WA: Raindrop Rally 2023 – Trees to Seas
DESCRIPTION:Raindrop 2023 Trees to Seas will start in Monroe and tour for 120 miles over 5-1/2 hours. Roads will be paved and suitable for any automobile.  \n\n\n\nRaindrop is a leisurely paced Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) rally with fine driving roads\, minimum traffic\, and wonderful scenery. The rally is geared toward the novice entrant with no traps\, and with mileages for every instruction\, but precise timing will still be required to score well. Entrants receive instructions with specific\, clear directions at speeds at or below legal limits\, with specific times to start each section at one-minute intervals. Raindrop is a “closed control” (passage control) format where cars do not stop at checkpoints. The goal is to pass each checkpoint at the correct second\, and the car with least number of points wins. Precision timing is the main criteria\, but Rainier also emphasizes remote areas and spectacular scenery. \n\n\n\nDate: NOTE — RESCHEDULED to October 8\, 2023 (was May 7\, 2023) \n\n\n\nStart Location: Monroe Square (between Taco Time and Jack-in-the-Box).  \n\n\n\nFirst Car Out: 10:00 AM \n\n\n\nFinish Location: Orlando’s BBQ\, Oak Harbor\, WA \n\n\n\nRallymaster: Bill Walsh \n\n\n\nRegistrar: Eric Horst Contact Eric for questions about your registration or to make any changes after you register. \n\n\n\nEntry Fee: $50 per prepaid auto entry\, $15 for extra route book. No on-site registration. \n\n\n\nClasses: Unlimited\, Equipped\, Seat-Of-Pants\, and Novice. (See clarifications in Supplemental General Instructions) \n\n\n\nRegistration: ON HOLD until August\, existing entries remain. \n\n\n\nGeneral Instructions: Raindrop will use the Rainier Auto Sports Club Touring General Instructions (PDF format) available in Rally Reference along with Supplemental General Instructions specific to this event. Please be familiar with the definitions of your selected class. Supplemental Instructions may change at any time until provisional start order is posted. \n\n\n\nScoring: Raindrop will utilize Richta GPS Checkpoints for scoring. In order to be scored you must use your own Android or IOS device and load the Richta Competitor app. For an overview see the NWRC Introduction to Richta Competitor App (PDF). \n\n\n\nCar numbers will be assigned and the Richta Competitor event password will be e-mailed to all entrants on ±October 5th. You can set up your Richta Checkpoints app after you receive the event password. \n\n\n\nQuestions about Richta usage on this event can be directed to rain23scoring@rainierautosports.com.

SUMMARY:NH: Great American Mountain Rallye Revival Celebrates 70th Anniversary of 1953 Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Great American Mountain Rally Revival (GAMRR) will return to the beautiful Green Mountain State of Vermont this Fall. This fall will be the 70th Anniversary of the first running of the Great American Mountain Rally! \n\n\n\nThanksgiving weekend in 1953 started the Great American Mountain Rallye that ran for four years – through 1956. In 2018\, my friend Steve McKelvie and I decided to revive this historical event as the Great American Mountain Rally Revival (GAMRR). \n\n\n\nSince that first revival running in 2018\, our entries have traversed almost 1600 miles through some of New England’s most beautiful countryside. We have run through New York’s Adirondack Mountains\, Vermont’s Green Mountains\, and New Hampshire & Maine’s White Mountains and Lakes Regions. We have retraced hundreds of miles of the original routes that were run in the 1950s. \n\n\n\nIn 2023\, we will run the event out of the Bolton Valley area of Vermont\, which affords us access to great mountain passes\, rolling farmland\, and the Lake Champlain Valley. If you have participated in GAMRR before\, you know the quality of Vermont roads; otherwise\, you will surely enjoy what we have in store for this year. As we did last year\, we have a very special stop for lunch on day one at an amazing automotive facility. \n\n\n\nPricing and lodging details will be forthcoming in the next few weeks\, and we anticipate opening registration in May. We are hoping you can join us for this special event! \n\n\n\nPlease click here to follow our GAMRR 2023 blog for information as it is developed. If you would like to be added to our 2023 GAMRR list\, please email me\, and we will add you to the list for emails with important information. \n\n\n\nTill then\, stay tuned via our Facebook page to be kept abreast of important updates about the GAMRR 2023. \n\n\n\nClick here to read about the 2022 GAMRR on RReNews.

SUMMARY:OR: Nor'wester Rally 2023 - Oregon Backroads Tour
DESCRIPTION:Nor’wester is a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) rally conducted since 1967\, by the Rainier Auto Sports Club. Entrants receive instructions with specific\, clear directions at speeds at or below legal limits\, with specific times to start each section at one-minute intervals. Nor’wester is a “closed control” format where cars do not stop at checkpoints. \n\n\n\nIt’s a pure touring rally with no tricks or traps and an equal penalty for passing a checkpoint (which may be hidden) early or late. Speeding is a sure way to lose as the goal is to pass at the correct second\, and the car with the least number of points wins. Precision timing is the main criterion\, but Nor’wester also emphasizes remote areas and spectacular scenery. \n\n\n\nRallymaster: Jim Breazeale\n\n\n\nRoutemaster: Ron Sorem\n\n\n\nRegistrar: Contact Eric Horst for questions about your registration or to make any changes after you register.\n\n\n\nEntry Fee: $300 per pre-paid auto entry\, $15 for an extra route book. No on-site registration. \n\n\n\nClasses: \n\n\n\nUnlimited\, Equipped\, Seat-Of-Pants\, Novice\, and Vintage auto (see clarifications in Supplemental General Instructions). \n\n\n\nGeneral Instructions:\n\n\n\nNor’Wester will use the Rainier Auto Sports Club Touring General Instructions (PDF format) available in Rally Reference along with Supplemental General Instructions specific to this event. Registration officially opened on July 1\, 2023. \n\n\n\nScoring:\n\n\n\nNor’wester will utilize Competitor – Richta GPS Checkpoints. In order to be scored you must load the  Competitor app on your own Android or IOS phone or tablet. For an overview\, see the NWRC_Competitor_Richta_App_Guide (PDF). \n\n\n\nCar numbers will be assigned on September 12th. SUMMARY:FL: Buccaneer Region SCCA Inaugural RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to host the first-ever Buccaneer Region SCCA RoadRally! This first event will be a “GTA” or “gimmick” road rally in the style of a “poker run.” Each car will drive on paved public roads to a specific checkpoint using their provided GPS navigation where they will draw a playing card from a deck of cards and be given an envelope with the next checkpoint’s address. This will continue until the participants reach the final destination\, a restaurant where scoring\, awards\, and lunch will be available (you are responsible for purchasing your own food\, we encourage everyone to eat and support the location).  \n\n\n\nAny car is allowed\, such that it meets all Florida and Georgia state laws and is insured to meet those states’ minimum requirements. A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance will be required at on-site registration.  \n\n\n\nThere will not be any official classes or required car numbers for this event. Each car is allowed as many people as there are seatbelts in the vehicle\, but it is recommended that each car have at least two people\, a Driver and a Navigator\, such that teams can participate in the optional quizzes that will be provided at each checkpoint. There will be a starting location\, five (5) checkpoints\, followed by a finishing location.  \n\n\n\nOnline registration is required to attend\, there will be no on-site registration available. This event is rain or shine! \n\n\n\nFinishing Location: Steamboat Lilly’s (551429 US-1\, Hilliard\, FL 32046)Registration Fee: $20 for SCCA members\, $40 for non-SCCA members (includes weekend membership)Estimated Duration: 83 miles\, 2-2.5 hours in duration including time to pick up your card and examine the envelope contents. Breaks are allowed along the way at your leisure. Required Equipment: Modern smartphone with Google Maps (or the like) or equivalent GPS device capable of entering a street address.  \n\n\n\nEvent Schedule: \n\n\n\nFriday September 8th 11:59pm – Online event registration closesSunday September 10th 9:30am – On-site check in opensSunday September 10th 10:00am – First car outSunday September 10th 12:15pm (estimated) – First car arrivesSunday September 10th 1:00pm (estimated) – Award ceremony \n\n\n\nGENERAL INSTRUCTIONS \n\n\n\n1. INTRODUCTIONWelcome to our inaugural road rally\, created by the Buccaneer Region SCCA. The idea of this rally is to introduce participants to the idea of SCCA road rally in a fun\, game (gimmick) manner. You will start at the specified location\, and cars will leave 60 seconds apart from one another\, eventually ending at the specified location. Along the way\, participants will have the opportunity to answer questions to provide some entertainment for the passengers. The idea is to have some fun with your car and gather for a social event at the end.  \n\n\n\n2. COURSE FOLLOWINGAt check-in\, participants will be given an envelope that contains the first checkpoint’s name and street address\, along with a few questions that we encourage you to answer related to things you should see along that leg of the rally. Participants will enter the checkpoint address into their GPS or cell phone and follow the instructions it states to reach the destination. This is not a timed event\, and you must obey all local posted traffic laws – including the speed limits! If you are given a citation for any reason while participating\, your entry will be disqualified and no scores provided.  \n\n\n\n3. RALLY LEGSThe rally has six total legs. At each checkpoint\, the participants will select a card from a deck of cards\, and be provided with a new envelope containing the next checkpoint’s name and address\, along with a new set of questions for that leg. The entrant enters the newly provided street address into their GPS and continues on. It is encouraged that the questions provided are read prior to leaving the checkpoint as you never know when the answers may appear!  \n\n\n\n4. SCORINGAs this event is a “poker run”\, the participant’s “poker hand” will determine the winner. In the event of a tie\, the total number of correct answers to the questions will be used as the tiebreaker.  \n\n\n\n5. SAFETYPlease drive carefully. Obey the speed limit at all times. Anyone receiving a citation of any kind will be disqualified. All roads used are paved and open to the public. Use extra caution in residential and congested areas. \n\n\n\nEvent Requirements\n\n\n\nA valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance are required for each vehicle (driver) at onsite check-in.  \n\n\n\nRegistration is on MotorSportReg – Please read carefully: \n\n\n\nIf you are registering yourself for the first time and you will be paying for the event entry\, please choose Option 1 on the order form and follow the prompts. \n\n\n\nIf you are registering as a co-entrant and your partner has already registered\, please choose Option 2 on the order form. \n\n\n\nIf you do not already have a MotorsportReg.com account\, click the ‘Create New Account’ button below. You will be asked to input your member number and Region of Record.  This is your SCCA Membership number and home region. You must have this information in your user profile to avoid needing a weekend membership for this event. (Also\, make sure your MotorsportReg.com user name matches exactly as it appears on your SCCA Membership card… otherwise\, the member verification process will not validate your membership.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Leave a ReplyCancel reply \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. SUMMARY:TX to CA: The 4th Trans-America
DESCRIPTION:America is a land intrinsically linked with the automobile\, and whilst the United States cannot lay a claim to being the ones that invented the contraption that we are all obsessed with\, thanks to the likes of Ford and Durant et al. the motor car became something that would touch the lives of many and not just a few. It is a country that has inspired many\, with its tall tales\, cities that reach up to the heavens\, huge landscapes and its all-encompassing skies. There is a long tradition of travel and a pull to enjoy life on the road\, whether that be mounted on a Hog on Route 66\, cruising in a Cadillac on the road to nowhere on Highway 3 or following in the footsteps of Kerouac\, Moriarty and Ginsberg\, on the road is very much a way of life. \n\n\n\nOur own On the Road adventure will take us from Houston to San Francisco\, on a route that heads almost all the way north to the Canadian border and then back down to the ‘city by the bay.’ As always\, with our adventures\, the route will take us on roads less travelled and whilst to see America is to cruise the freeways and highways\, the roads that beckon those who choose to take on this trip will be an altogether less straight forward affair\, giving us all the pleasure of seeing an America that many eyes never get to see. As Kerouac himself said\, “There is nowhere to go\, but everywhere.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver 21 days and thousands of miles our adventure will find our America\, it will introduce us to a land of contrasts\, some expected and some unexpected. Cowboy territory and the great plains will give way to the Rocky Mountains and high altitude passes\, as well as tumultuous river crossings as we forge our own route across the great divide. Gravel roads will often be our friends\, as we retrace the footsteps of the first pioneers that crossed these great lands\, national parks will be our solace against the dust of the plains and deserts\, offering a luscious oasis of green flora amongst fast flowing rivers and spectacular wildlife. For those with a head for heights the mighty Teton range will leave us breathless\, and the venerable and ancient trees of the Klamath Forest will leave us humbled. \n\n\n\nThe event is open for vintage and cars built before 1948 and for Classic cars of a type built before 1986. Cars of a later date but unchanged mechanical specification will be considered at the Organisers’ discretion. Classes based on engine size will subdivide these categories. \n\n\n\nThe event is suitable for both novice and more experienced crews. Many roads are good tarmac and gravel\, with competition on more remote roads\, private land or race circuits. An easy to follow tulip route book will be supplied. Our experienced team of officials will be at your disposal at all times to support you and we will provide hints and tips on navigation. \n\n\n\nWho can participate?\n\n\n\nThe event is open for vintage and cars built before 1948 and for Classic cars of a type built before 1986.
