SUMMARY:CA: Cal Club First Friday Niter
DESCRIPTION:It’s April\, and we all know what that means for the First Friday Niter.  But this time\, the joke is on us – Larry Scholnick is giving is a Tour Rally! So unlike all those previous April FFNs that Larry has written\, there is no need to be afraid of whatever foolishness there might have been for this rally. It’s a tour!!  The odometer check heads out to Westlake Village\, where the challenge to stay on time begins. The rally includes Potrero Road\, a trip through Newbury Park\, then more Potrero Road to a visit to Cal State Channel Islands\, and we finish with a loop of Loop! It’s a fun drive\, so come join us on April 7! \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. The maximum penalty this month is 120 seconds (2 minutes) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/. There is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks to your Official Time shows in the app!  \n\n\n\nAlso\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish\, download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app also. \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at msreg.com/FFN042023.  This helps us with figuring out how many sets of instructions to print\, and trophies\, and other stuff.  If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start at the Bank of America rear lot. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm. \n\n\n\nThe rally will finish at Pizza Man Dan’s\, 2390 Las Posas Road\, Camarillo (a new Pizza Man Dan’s for us). \n\n\n\nIs your usual rally partner not available for this FFN?  Let Jeanne know and she will attempt to match you up with another single.  Contact Jeanne at ean21@juno.com.

SUMMARY:PA: Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally\, Part II Revenge of the Stone Fruit
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the nationally-known (but in no way affiliated) Lemons Rally\, the Choose Your Own Citrus Road Rally\, Part II Revenge of the Stone Fruit is designed to provide an enjoyable drive through the countryside while conducting a Scavenger Hunt. This “Rally” is a social event and is not based on accurate time and distance – in fact\, each team picks their own route to maximize points the way that suits each team the best. Scoring is based on the ability of the team to use clues to find target locations\, while leaving enough time to finding their own way to the finish location in the allotted time frame. Each team will be provided with a packet with rules and instructions on how to post pictures on Instagram to mark way-points and collect points. Someone on your team needs an Instagram account for your team to get points! This is a great opportunity to get younger family members involved in a driving activity. This event will take place rain or shine. Only extreme weather conditions warrant cancellation. \n\n\n\nA Road Rally is not a race! OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS. The roads are challenging\, sharp curves\, steep climbs and wildlife crossings all combined with an unknown route. The driver and navigator must work together to stay alert while looking for clues. Speed does not improve the score. Bring water for the team\, and fuel up when you can there isn’t any sweep car…it’s up to the team to make it back \n\n\n\nEvent requirements\n\n\n\nREGISTRATION \n\n\n\nRegister here for $45. All licensed drivers are welcome to participate! Once registered\, make sure that your name shows up on the entry list to confirm your entry.  Walk-ups will NOT be accepted. An SCCA membership is required for insurance purposes. For all drivers that are not annual SCCA members\, weekend memberships are required and can be purchased during online registration. All passengers that are non-SCCA members will have to sign up for a trial membership at no additional cost. We will have trial membership form on site.  \n\n\n\nEVENT OVERVIEW \n\n\n\nThis is a GTA/Social Road Rally. There are no points towards any championship. \n\n\n\nThere are many variations of Road Rally—this is a “social” rally\, which does not require participants to track time and accurate distance. Instead\, each vehicle has a navigator who will read directions and figure out the best route\, and the driver will follow the instructions. The goal is to drive and find the best route to maximize points. At the end of the rally\, there will be a small award ceremony where winners will be announced. \n\n\n\nThe intention is to have a pleasant Saturday drive\, following the speed limits and all local laws. Enjoy yourself\, enjoy the view and spot some random stuff \n\n\n\nAdditional Notes of Importance: \n\n\n\n\nThe official instructions will be provided at the check-in at on-site registration; you get to determine your own route.\n\n\n\nEach team should have a pencil or pen (and perhaps a clip board) to record stuff and things at this event.\n\n\n\nVehicles will depart the start point at after the driver meeting.\n\n\n\nEach team will need an Instagram account\n\n\n\nThere will be no checkpoints along the route to verify that participants are on the correct route.\n\n\n\nWarning: don’t play follow the leader! Or do\, the other team could be doing something dumb.\n\n\n\nEach car/team will need a mascot that must be included in all photographs/Instagram posts of way-points/checkpoints for scoring purposes\n\n\n\nMascot should be a handheld item to represent the team\n\n\n\nEach team should bring a Hot Wheels or Matchbox car for the judges (it could help your score).\n\n\n\nThis is NOT a race; ALL traffic laws must be followed.\n\n\n\nSpeeding ticket will disqualify you from this event.\n\n\n\n\nREQUIREMENTS \n\n\n\nYou must show your valid driver’s license. If you are not an SCCA member\, a weekend membership form must be completed via MotorsportReg.com for $15. Other team members/navigators that are not SCCA members will need to fill out a trial membership form on site \n\n\n\nDriver qualifications:  \n\n\n\n\nA valid driver’s license and a car\n\n\n\nCapable of listening to the navigator or team or pack of wolves and remembering what they were told about why they are driving around South Central PA\n\n\n\n\nTeam qualifications: \n\n\n\n\nSome organizational ability (to handle the paperwork and keep track of route instructions)\n\n\n\nNot prone to motion sickness while reading in the car (if you do get motion sick\, taking medicine prior to the event often allows you to still enjoy the event)\n\n\n\nAbility to post to Instagram\n\n\n\nSome light googling\n\n\n\n\nNotes: \n\n\n\n\nNumber of passengers in the vehicle must not exceed the legal passenger capacity for the vehicle.\n\n\n\n\nEVENT VENUE AND TIMETABLE \n\n\n\nCheck-in: Hickory Bridge Restaurant \n\n\n\n\n9:30AM: Registration opens\n\n\n\n10:00AM: Registration closes and Driver’s meeting\n\n\n\n10:15ishAM: Vehicles begin rally\n\n\n\n3:30PM: Finish Location \n\n\n\n4:00PM: Sharing of food and tall tales of the road  \n\n\n\n5:00PM (or earlier): Results and award ceremony\n\n\n\n6:00PM (or earlier) Please help tear down and clean up!\n\n\n\n\nFinal Destination: will be in the rally packet  \n\n\n\nGeneral Scoring Tips \n\n\n\nThese things could help you points \n\n\n\n\nthemes (costume for you or your car)\n\n\n\nsafe\, legal wackiness that makes the judges laugh

SUMMARY:MN: Minnesota Valley Winter Rally
DESCRIPTION:The course for this SCCA Land o’ Lakes Region is mostly unpaved roads traversing the Minnesota River Valley. By late March the roads could be dry\, mud\, snow or any combination. Be prepared. \n\n\n\nSunset at 7:32 PM so part of the Minnesota Valley Winter Rally will be at night but mostly daylight. External night lighting will not be required but it would’t hurt on older cars\, interior lights will be very useful.  \n\n\n\nWe advise bringing winter gear (boots\, hat\, gloves\, etc) and a blanket in case you have car trouble. A small shovel or two would be a good idea if it is still snowy. \n\n\n\nPhilosophy  \n\n\n\nThis event will not have nearly as many timing points (TP) as others we have done. We have located the TP at traditional locations used when we had to have humans work. We have thrown in a few extra at places we always wanted to put one as well. The first section we are calling the prairie stage. It’s one long stage of about 25 miles with no links. The terrain is rather flat with the interest coming via many 90 degree turns followed by a TP. From there we head down to the Minnesota River starting with the famous Salisbury Hill control before ending the first part in Henderson where you can exchange stories at the Shell station. \n\n\n\nFrom there we follow the traditional course through the tributary valleys. After a brief run up the Minnesota River Scenic Byway before one last stage before ending at Sticks. \n\n\n\nMVWR uses the MiRally GPS timing and scoring system. The advantage being contestants get to use the Rabbit Rally Digital Roadbook and rally computer on their smartphone and or tablet. You should enter the event in class G as E\, L & S are legacy classes for people using old equipment and timkeeping methods. \n\n\n\nWe use the Telegram app of group communications. Telegram invite link \n\n\n\nSchedule  \n\n\n\nSunday March 19: Roadbooks and specific regulations emailed.. \n\n\n\nSaturday March 25 \n\n\n\n3-5:15 PM Registration\, timecards\, SmartControl and newbie training at Stick’s Tavern \n\n\n\n5:15 PM Contestants Meeting\, We will go over any last minute information regarding the course and conditions. \n\n\n\n5:31 PM Car One departs. \n\n\n\n8:30 PM or sooner Car one arrives at the end point.  \n\n\n\nEvent requirements\n\n\n\nYou are responsible for insuring the following are in order:Headlights (high and low beams) and parking lightsTaillights and brake lightsHorn\, windshield wipers and directional signalsRear-view mirrorFoot brakes and parking brakeTires (inspect for condition of sidewalls as well as tread)Seat belts\, securely installed for the driver and navigatorSafety triangle (optional)First Aid Kit (optional)Tow Rope (optional)Fire Extinguisher (optional)

SUMMARY:CA: SCCA Cal Club First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:On March 3\, 2023\, grab your favorite musketeer and join the Santa Monica Sports Car Club and guest Rallymaster Joe Batwinis for the 3rd First Friday Niter of the year. There will be three legs with three stages per leg on this Tour rally of the Sierra Pelona Ridge. There are no traps this month and plenty of free zones to enjoy some of the region’s best driving roads. Just ensure you’re on time outside those free zones because the checkpoints are unmarked – like the pre-app days.  \n\n\n\nOn that note\, this rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This month’s maximum penalty is 60 seconds (1 minute) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/; there is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks as your Official Time shows in the app!  \n\n\n\nAlso\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish\, download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app. \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at msreg.com/FFN032023. This helps us figure out how many sets of instructions to print\, trophies\, etc. If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start in the rear lot of the Bank of America. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm. \n\n\n\nThe rally will finish at IHOP\, 1225 Truman St.\, San Fernando\, CA 91340. This is close to the start\, so it’s a short drive back in case you and your Navigator meet at the start location. \n\n\n\nIs your usual rally partner not available for this FFN? Let Jeanne know\, and she will attempt to match you up with another competitor seeking a partner to run with.  Contact Jeanne at ean21@juno.com.

SUMMARY:TX: Come and Take It Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Lone Star Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) would like to invite you to join us for the Come and Take It Road Rally. This rally is to honor the 32 Texican volunteers who left Gonzales on 27 February 1836 for the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. Two days later the detachment entered the Alamo which was commanded by William Barrett Travis and Jame Bowie. Except of Travis’s boyhood friend\, James B. Bonham\, who arrived later that day\, these heroes were the last men to enter the Alamo before it was over whelmed by Mexican forces under President/General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna on March 6 and all of the defenders were killed. This road rally will follow the approximate path of these doomed men from Gonzales to San Antonio (Bexar) but in reverse. \n\n\n\nOn the day of the event\, 25 February 2023\, participants will meet at Dellcrest Plaza in southeast San Antonio at 1:00 PM. After completing a safety briefing\, the rally will began the 90 minute rally at 2:01 PM. The route will visit Martinez\, New Berlin before skirting Seguin and entering Gonzales from the south. The destination is the Gonzales Food Market on Hero’s Square in Gonzales where the group will sample the award winning BBQ and discuss more local history before voting on awards. \n\n\n\nEarly Registration will be through MotorsportReg.com. The price is $25.00 per car regardless of the number of occupants. Children are welcomed but insurance requires that minor children\, under 18\, must have an SCCA Minor Waiver signed by both parents. Each car must have a Driver and a Navigator and each car must have a current inspection sticker and proof of insurance. People who register through MotorsportReg.comwill find the waiver form (must be printed it in color) and may pay online. People may also register by contacting Ken McElroy via contact information below and then pay at the event or just by showing up at Dellcrest Plaza and paying as they fill out the paper work there.

SUMMARY:TX: Sweetheart Ride Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) invites you to join us for Jerry White’s annual Valentine’s Day-themed Sweetheart Ride Road Rally. It will be about a 90-mile drive on some of the scenic hard surfaced country roads in Johnson and Ellis Counties. All are welcome and no prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nThe challenge is to see how many correct puzzle solutions (many with a sweetheart theme) you can find based on signs and objects along the rally route. Puzzles can have from zero (0) to four (4) correct solutions. Think of it as a visual scavenger hunt. Google Forms will be used to display the route instructions and puzzles and to collect and score you and your sweetheart’s/navigator’s solutions. To use a Google Form you will need a browser on a smartphone\, tablet or laptop computer that can connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi or cellular data. In addition\, you will need a separate smartphone to run the Richta GPS Competitor app. It will use GPS signals to monitor your time and course and to tell you when to stop working on a puzzle and/or when to prepare to do the next route instruction.  \n\n\n\nYou should also participate in the February 11th Zoom Rally School (or watch the recording of it) and visit roadrally.page to help prepare for the rally.  \n\n\n\n\nAwards: First Timers\, Novices (every person in the vehicle has won 2 or less rally trophies)\, and General Class. Optional Master Class – no trophies awarded.\n\n\n\nStart at: Fat Daddy’s Sports & Spirits Café\, 781 Debbie Lane\, Mansfield\, TX\n\n\n\nFinish at: Spring Creek Barbeque\, 1724 U.S. 287 Frontage Rd\, Mansfield\, TX (approximately 0.75 miles east of Fat Daddy’s)\n\n\n\nRegistration/Check-In: 11:15am – noon.\n\n\n\nMandatory Safety Briefing: 12:10pm.\n\n\n\nCar 1 receives the code that will allow them to submit their Google Forms: 12:21pm (Car 2\, 12:22pm\, etc.).\n\n\n\nThere will be at least one rest break at a gas station along the course.\n\n\n\nFirst car should finish at Spring Creek Barbeque around 4:30pm; results to be announced and trophies awarded around 5:30pm.\n\n\n\nVehicles: Sports cars\, family sedans\, pickup trucks\, SUV’s and anything else with 4 wheels that’s street legal (bring something that you will be comfortable in and will have fun driving on back roads and byways\, many of which are oil & chip). Speed is not a factor.\n\n\n\nAt least two people (a driver and a navigator) are required in each car; contact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the car\, as a form will need to be signed.\n\n\n\nSCCA membership requirements: at least one SCCA Member required in each car\, either regular/annual Member or Weekend Member; if not currently a Member\, you will be able to become a Weekend Member during online pre-registration\n\n\n\nRally entry fee: regular SCCA Members $28; Weekend Members $40 (includes membership fee).
