SUMMARY:CA: First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The First Friday Niter Series has a long history with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA California Sports Car Club. \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 7 PM\, with a Beginner/Richta App meeting at 740 PM. The first car is out at 801 PM. The entry is $25\, with a $10 discount if either the Driver or Navigator is an SCCA Member. Should you run the FFNs regularly\, this becomes an excellent reason to join the SCCA and other discounts available from National. \n\n\n\nWe are still practicing COVID-19 restrictions – primarily wearing masks and social distancing. We continue to use the Richta Competitor GPS app for checkpoints\, so no manned checkpoints or control cards to pass in and out of the car; there’s a new version\, 1.20\, that should automatically update on your phone when you log in. Each checkpoint sign will be clearly shown in the instructions\, so no guesswork will be needed.

SUMMARY:WA: Nor'Wester Rally 2021
DESCRIPTION:Cascade Passes Tour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNor’Wester Rally is a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) perfect time\, touring rally. Entrants are given route instructions containing specific\, clear directions to follow\, with speeds at or below the legal limit in all cases. Cars are assigned a specific time to start each section in the route instructions\, at one-minute intervals. \n\n\n\nNOTE: We\, at RReNews\, are awaiting details on Registration and starting location from the organizers. To field the event on our calendar\, the address for starting is simply the Chamber for Kirkland. We will amend when information is provided! \n\n\n\nNor’Wester is a ‘closed checkpoint’ format\, where the cars do not stop at checkpoints\, but rather the checkpoints are sometimes hidden\, with timing to a specific landmark. This kind of rally is ‘On Time\, All the Time’. Penalty points are issued for passing a checkpoint early or late. Speeding is a sure way to lose the rally\, as early points are just as bad as late points. The goal is to pass all checkpoints exactly at the correct second\, netting zero points. The car with the least number of points wins. \n\n\n\nThis event is a pure course-following rally; there are no tricks or traps. Precision timing is the main criterion. Traveling remote areas with spectacular scenery is a bonus.

SUMMARY:IN: Indianapolis Region Hoosier Byways: The Bridges of Putnam County
DESCRIPTION:The Bridges of Putnam County is a Divisional Tour Rally that is part of the SCCA Great Lakes Divisional Championship. It is a challenging Tour rally using GPS checkpoints. The route includes many well-groomed\, yet curvy\, gravel roads and crosses several covered bridges in Putnam County. Although designed to be challenging for Divisional competitors\, the rally can be run by anyone who would like a full afternoon of road rallying with some spectacular scenery. The route is well defined and the challenge is to stay on time. \n\n\n\nThe route includes a tire warm-up followed by a 12+ miles odometer check that contains paved and gravel roads. There is no headquarter hotel for this event. Should you would like overnight accommodations\, the rally committee suggests using a hotel near State Rd. 267 and I-70 (exit 66). There are many hotels at that exit and it is a 16 mile (less than 20 minute) drive from there to the rally start point. \n\n\n\n12:00-12:30 P.M   Registration (waivers and weekend member forms will be in registration packets) \n\n\n\n12:45 P.M.  Mandatory Safety Meeting (call in from your car) \n\n\n\n1:00 P.M + Car Number   Start of Rally \n\n\n\n7:00 P.M + Car Number   Could arrive at end point  \n\n\n\nItems Needed: \n\n\n\nPen/pencil/highlighterClipboardOdometer/GPS or some other way to calculate your mileageCalculator might be helpful

SUMMARY:VT: Great American Mountain Rally Revival
DESCRIPTION:We hope you can join us for the Great American Mountain Rally Revival (GAMRR)\, with three fantastic days of rallying in beautiful Stowe\, Vermont\, at our host inn\, the Trapp Family Lodge. \n\n\n\nJohn Buffum\, a multi-time USA Rally Champion and a past European event Rally Champion\, has agreed to be the Clerk of the Course for GAMRR. John was available last year to perform the Recce with my input during the closure of the State of Vermont to out of staters since he lives just north of Burlington. His extensive knowledge of ‘great’ rally roads was instrumental in putting together a fantastic route. John’s vast experience in Stage and Regularity rallies will cement GAMRR as one of the premier Regularity rallies in North America. \n\n\n\nGAMRR is a Hybrid rally incorporating a ‘Tour’ with a Regularity Rally. There will be a course to follow through northern Vermont utilizing Tulip-style instructions and a short map reading section. Monday’s ‘Prologue’ rally is a short run north of Stowe to get everyone familiar with the route instructions and the timing; a short ‘school’ will precede the route. Tuesday’s rally follows the 1955 route over Smuggler’s Notch to the Canadian border and then heads south through the chain of islands and along Lake Champlain’s shores before its return to Stowe. Wednesday’s rally swings to the south\, again following a route from the 50’s – this time from 1956. You’ll encounter four mountain passes during its clockwise loop. GAMRR is similar to the Monte Carlo Historique\, which has 300+ cars driving around southern France over five days; many ‘cool’ cars with drivers who want to enjoy the idea that they are in a competition\, even though they may not be overly concerned with winning. Many have service crews and meet up with friends or other competitors along the way; we assume no one will be bringing their service crews to GAMRR! Last year Hagerty provided a free weekend of towing for entrants\, and we hope to secure them again this year. \n\n\n\nThere are several sections throughout each day where you have to roll up your sleeves and try to stay precisely on time; these are the Regularities’ Timed Sections. In these sections\, we will be employing a modern system of GPS timing\, eliminating the need for control workers. The timing system also enables us to have as few or as many controls as we see fit. Timing performed via an automated system will allow a timelier reporting of daily scores.  \n\n\n\nWe do\, however\, want to maintain the flavor of the original rally\, and thus\, we will be limiting the technology that contestants can use.  In theory\, if the technology did not exist in the 1950s or early 1960s\, it is not allowed (with a few exceptions) for GAMRR.   \n\n\n\nAs we enter the third year of this revival rally (after our break from Covid last year)\, we are incorporating “lessons learned” during the first two years. \n\n\n\nWe remain dedicated to keeping this event in the spirit of the original events of the ’50s with just a touch of modern-day conveniences. \n\n\n\nWe are certain you will enjoy it! Registration opens May 11th on Hagerty Motorsportreg\, so click here for more information and to register your team today! We will be posting updates and answers to queries on the Registration site. \n\n\n\nWatch for additional information on our Facebook Page under the Events tab at https://www.facebook.com/historicrallyrevival/ or email me at GamrrRally@gmail.com \n\n\n\nGary J. Hamilton\, Rally Event Chairman

SUMMARY:PA: Steel Cities End of Summer Showcase Festival – Monopoly III Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Steel Cities Region\, SCCA\, as part of this year’s End of Summer Showcase\, will stage the Monopoly III Road Rally on Saturday\, August 28\, 2021.  \n\n\n\nThe 60 mile\, approximately 3 hour afternoon event will start and finish at Pitt Race\, the Pittsburgh International Race Complex\, in Wampum\, PA\, just off the PA Turnpike\, Beaver Valley Exit 13\, 45 miles north of Pittsburgh\, PA.  \n\n\n\nLike similar Sports Car Club of America Road Rally events\, this one will use paved\, public\, lightly traveled country roads. Road Rally is not a race. You will travel below the speed limit searching for the correct signs to move around a Monopoly game board. The winning team will be the one who comes closest to the correct trip around that board. SUMMARY:NJ: Northern New Jersey Region Back to School RoadRally Event
DESCRIPTION:Northern New Jersey SCCA in association with the Motorsport Club of North Jersey presents the Back to School Road Rally on Sunday\, August 22nd. \n\n\n\nThis event will be an introduction to mileage-based course rallying. 100 penalty points will be ‘awarded’ for each mile that you go off-course. Exact times are not important but accurate course-following is. \n\n\n\nMike Szorentini\, the Rallymaster\, is designing the route for individuals new to this type of event and will provide helpers to keep you on-course and ‘instruct’ you on the possible upcoming self- correcting route following tricks that you might see later in the event or on the December 5th Teddy Bear Toys for Tots rally. \n\n\n\nThis event is open to the general public and requires only a car or light SUV/truck\, pen/pencil\, and a clipboard or other writing surface. \n\n\n\nThe rally will end at Tavern 519 – 650 County Route 519\, Frenchtown\, NJ. \n\n\n\nThe rally is limited to 60 vehicles! Click here to register today!

SUMMARY:WI: Milwaukee Region Mini Monte Regional Tour
DESCRIPTION:Milwaukee Region SCCA will be presenting a Monte Carlo-style Rallye on August 21\, 2021. The Rallye will be about 5 hours in length and will explore the back roads\, mostly in Sheboygan County. We will be visiting the northern sections of the Kettle Moraine Forest and passing Road America\, and driving a portion of the old Elkhart Lake Street Race Course. As usual\, roads are twisty\, speeds brisk\, and the scenery spectacular. \n\n\n\nA Monte Carlo-style Rallye is a bit different and will present new challenges. Instead of assigning an average speed (CAST)\, you will be given the exact mileage and a Car Zero Time for each control. The contestant needs to determine how fast to drive to arrive exactly on time. As usual\, points are assessed for each second you are early or late at each control. You can also expect to find some controls that are very closely spaced. \n\n\n\nYou can look over the General Instructions and register at http://msreg.com/MonteRallye21. Entry is $40.

SUMMARY:CA: First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The First Friday Niter Series has a long history with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA California Sports Car Club. \n\n\n\nJoin us for the August First Friday Niter on August 6. Jeanne English is the Rallymaster\, and she has written a rally again using some of her favorite roads in the foothills surrounding the Santa Clarita Valley. This time there will be some traps\, all less than a minute in trap value. We will be using the Richta Competitor app (free download) for timing to the nearest second. There will be a restart after each checkpoint\, and each checkpoint is listed in the route instructions. This means\, in effect\, that the rally is mostly a free zone since you only need to be on time at the checkpoints\, and they are all listed. The rally finishes at Topper’s Pizza Place\, 18417 Soledad Canyon Rd\, Santa Clarita\, 661-222-7888.

SUMMARY:TX: Historic Tour of San Antonio Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:San Antonio has had more battles fought within its city limits than any other town in North America. These battles occurred while San Antonio was under the jurisdiction of Spain\, the Republic of Mexico\, the Republic of Texas\, and the United States. This Road Rally will take you to the approximate location of each site; however\, the exact location of some of the sites is not known\, and other sites ranged over several miles. If you want a more detailed investigation of any site\, you are encouraged to revisit site(s) on your own and at your convenience. The oldest two sites date from 1813\, and the latest site dates from the 1870s. \n\n\n\nThis is a non-speed social Road Rally whose route will be along city streets\, and speed bumps may be an issue for some cars. We will start on the west side of San Antonio\, proceed to the far south side\, and then complete our tour just north of downtown. It should take between 90 minutes and two hours for this Road Rally as you learn about the history of San Antonio.  Questions will be asked along the way\, but awards will not be based on questions or a car’s finish position. This Road Rally is meant to be a fun social outing and learning event. Children are welcome. \n\n\n\nThe Social Road Rally fee for this event is $25.00 (the same for SCCA members and non-SCCA Members). Registration is at Hagerty MotorsportReg\, so click here and register your team today!

SUMMARY:CA: First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The First Friday Niter Series has a long history with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA California Sports Car Club. The Rallymaster for the July event will be Jeanne English.

SUMMARY:VT: SCCA New England Region Summer Challenge RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Short version – The Summer Challenge Road Rally\, with Rallymaster John Buffum\, will be sanctioned by the SCCA NER and held on Saturday\, June 19th. More information is available on https://winterchallengerally.com or by reaching out to Buffum via email: johnbuffum1@gmail.com. \n\n\n\nJune 13\, 2021: The Entry list with car numbers is posted. To clarify\, the start is at the Park and Ride next to Exit 4  near Randolph\, Vermont. The TECH FORM is also posted – you need to fill this out and bring it with you to get your Route Information. You need to have printed the Generals and Richta info as there will be none given out at Registration. \n\n\n\nJune 8\, 2021: A NEW SAMPLE MAP is posted. The original one left off the important scale. Also\, a new entry list. \n\n\n\nJune 6\, 2021: A new Entry List is posted. \n\n\n\nJune 4\, 2021: The General Instructions\, a Sample Timecard\, and Richta control info are all posted. We have 14 entries\, and a new Entry list will be posted within the week. If you have any questions\, don’t be afraid to email me. \n\n\n\nMay 25\, 2021: The Sample Routes and Info are posted.  No new entries – now’s the time :). \n\n\n\nMay 17\, 2021: The first Entry List is posted. \n\n\n\nMay 10\, 2021: Now that I’ve done an event as a competitor\, I have more insight into what happens during an event. Although it’s not necessary to score well\, it’s nice to actually see the timing point (I never saw any at Seacoast). Now that we have to stay on time – all the time – you need to have a free zone after every “Stop’ (where there isn’t a pause) to avoid speeding after the “Stop.” For a reason I’m not sure about\, the scores are better than in the past; thus\, mileages at the Start of a Leg and Timing CP’s should be accurate to the thousandth of a mile – OR – competitors need to be told that the mileage ‘rolls over’ from whatever happened to be shown on the hundredth-reading odometer at the CP. Example: At the start of an event\, you understand that the start mileage is 0.00(0) – not 0.00(4\, or something); the mileage is understood to be “0” in the thousandth place. At Timing CP’s\, a Rallymaster could decide -and tell competitors – that whatever his odo showed to the CP (in hundredths) is what the next leg starts at. \n\n\n\nApril 28\, 2021: The ENTRY INFO is posted. I’ll be putting up more info here as we go along. \n\n\n\nApril 22\, 2021: I’ve been out on the course a couple of times. It’s a nice new area – South and East of Randolph. There’s a few really good stretches of twisty roads over the Vermont hills. It’s also a nice change from the Winter Challenge (and the Seacoast Scramble) – it’s during the day so you can see the countryside – and maybe see the control locations :)! The Entry info will be up on this site next week. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarch 15\, 2021:  I’ve picked a date for the SUMMER CHALLENGE RALLY – JUNE 19. It will start again like last year – at Exit 4 of I 89 in Randolph\, VT.;  10 am to 5 pm\, running south and east to White River Jct and then back.   More info will be available on this website as we go along; perhaps Entry info on May 1.
