SUMMARY:TX: Back-to-Basics RoadRally Series #4 - Roads and Intersections
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, in addition to rallies that we have put on regularly in recent years (e.g.\, Sweetheart Ride\, Tick-Tock\, DFW Map\, Children’s Book Run)\, the Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will be conducting a series of road rallies and schools. \n\n\n\nThe Region is designing these to introduce rallying to newcomers and refresh and reinforce key concepts for our more experienced rallyists. This “Back-to-Basics” series will consist of four events of progressive challenge levels staged over several months. These will be SCCA GTA (Games\, Tours\, Adventures) Social Rallies\, about 45-60 miles and 2 ½ – 3 hours long. We will score them and present awards to the most successful. The objective is to conduct events in accordance with the SCCA RoadRally Rules\, starting with simple rules and instructions. Then each succeeding rally will introduce more advanced topics. \n\n\n\nThere will be a virtual Road Rally School\, six days before each rally\, where we will present the rules and instructions for that rally\, demonstrate “how-to\,” and go through applicable examples. Liz Witt\, Rallymaster for the four B2B rallies\, will be your lead instructor. \n\n\n\nThe tentative schedule for the Back-to-Basics (B2B) events is as follows: \n\n\n\nB2B #1 – Focus on General Instructions\, Route Instructions\, Questions• Rally School (via Zoom session): January 9th• Rally: January 15th – Did You SEE That? \n\n\n\nB2B #2 – Focus on Signs and Landmarks• Rally School (via Zoom session): March 13th• Rally: March 19th \n\n\n\nB2B#3 – Focus on Main Road Concepts• Rally School (via Zoom session): May 1st• Rally: May 7th \n\n\n\nB2B#4 – Focus on Roads and Intersections• Rally School (via Zoom session): May 29th• Rally: June 4th \n\n\n\nThe Rally Schools will be conducted via Zoom and recorded for later on-demand viewing. After each rally\, a packet of materials (General Instructions\, Route Instructions\, Question and Answer Sheet\, Explanation/Critique Sheets) will be made available. This way\, if you miss any of the rallies or schools or only become aware of our program part of the way into the year\, you can watch the recording(s) and run the rally(ies) at your convenience (not scored) to get up to speed on covered skills and concepts. \n\n\n\nThe Back-to-Basics Series will help prepare you for a “course-following” (aka\, trap) rally. We plan to conduct a National or Divisional GTA rally in the Fall\, a perfect opportunity for putting what you learned into practice! \n\n\n\nHead over to Motorsportreg for more information and register today!

SUMMARY:Cal Club First Friday Niter Social Roadrally
DESCRIPTION:Uh\, oh! The April First Friday Niter is on April Fool’s Day! Come on out to the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA Cal Club\, and see what Rallymaster Larry Scholnick has planned for you. He said\, “The rally is short on miles but long on traps.”   \n\n\n\nTranslated\, ‘It is a short rally\, only about 40 miles; there are\, indeed\, numerous traps…BUT\, there is only one trap per leg\, they are mostly easy to figure out (here’s a hint for one of them – make sure you know what SOL means)\, and all trap values are less than a minute (some much less). What’s really amazing\, is that all of the traps are different! It’s an excellent chance to see how good your rally skills are! \n\n\n\nThe rally finishes in Camarillo at Topper’s Pizza Place\, 425 Arneill Rd\, (805) 385-4444 (call ahead on your way to the finish so your pizza will be ready when you get there). \n\n\n\nWe are using the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. The maximum penalty for this FFN is 3 minutes (150 seconds) per leg\, and all checkpoints are referenced in the route instructions. Before you arrive at the start\, please download the Richta Competitor app to your phone; it’s a free download for Android and Apple devices. There is no need for additional timing equipment\, your Official Time shows in the app! \n\n\n\nPlease register here on MotorSportReg at msreg.com/FFN042022\, it helps us plan for how many cars will be attending and makes registration quicker for you. If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start at the Bank of America rear lot\, 10300 Sepulveda Blvd (Sepulveda and Devonshire) in Mission Hills. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm.

SUMMARY:NJ: Highlands Spring Car Trek
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the mountains of the New Jersey Highlands used to be higher than the Himalayas? Have you ever wondered about the geological history of the beautiful state we are lucky enough to call home? The diverse natural beauty of the Highlands and the patterns of human settlement are determined by its geology\, whose beginnings were dramatic and violent and subsequently sculpted by 3 glaciations. All of the Highlands’ history is illustrated by features of the current landscape\, which we will interpret for you. \n\n\n\nJoin the New Jersey Highlands Coalition’s Spring Car Trek and learn about local geology\, all while experiencing the natural beauty of the Highlands firsthand. Participants will begin their trek at the High Marques dealership in Morristown and will wend their way through 65 miles* of New Jersey nature\, learning about the region’s geology! \n\n\n\nWe provide you with step-by-step directions so you don’t get lost. It’s not a race; you can drive the route at your own pace. There will be several engaging stops on this self-guided tour where you can jump out\, take a walk\, and snap a photo. So grab a friend\, buckle up\, and join us on March 27th at 10 am at High Marques Motor Cars for this exciting educational adventure! It’s gonna rock! This event is sanctioned by the SCCA Northern New Jersey Region. \n\n\n\nIf you aren’t available on March 27th\, you are welcome to drive the route on any other day.
