SUMMARY:CA: Lost Highway Monte Carlo Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Into the Night Rally Team’s Lost Highway 2018 is a straightforward Starlite-style Monte Carlo navigational road rally open to all street-legal vehicles.\nWhat is a navigational road rally? We’re out there. Waiting for you on some back road in the gathering dusk. A trained crew\, a timing hose and marker\, and a clock – mercilessly accurate. A rally checkpoint. Early OR late across this baby gets you a penalty. We tell you at the start when you have to cross each checkpoint. Can you find each of them in time? Can you cross with a zero penalty? \nThe Lost Highway 2018 will cover many of our favorite rally roads\, along with a few roads we’ve haven’t been on in a long time. It should be a great drive. Paved roads only and no special equipment required. All licensed vehicles are welcome. \nOnly 3 groups on this one – novice\, regular\, and expert. Although simple for novice\, it will challenging for regular and particularly expert groups.  Two  people minimum per car (Driver and Navigator) and the event will run rain or shine! \nEntry is $20 per car.

SUMMARY:MO: VCRA All Stars for Autism Vintage Car Rally
DESCRIPTION:The 2018 13th Annual VCRA All Stars for Autism Vintage Car Rally has finalized the schedule for May 16th thru 20th\, 2018 and will be returning to Joplin. Missouri. \nIf you are a rookie team (have never been in a Great Race\, Coker Challenge\, Northeast Rally or VCRA rally) then you will have a special Greenhorn Class entry option. Why do we offer this? Generally\, the teams that intend on entering the current year Great Race as a rookie have no idea about “How to Rally” or “What to Expect”. \nAs a part of this event\, VCRA offers an in depth rally school that will prove invaluable to a Rookie (Greenhorn) team! You will also have the opportunity to rally with\, ask questions of\, and be instructed by the top rally teams in the USA. We also have a “What The #### Went Wrong” class after the first day’s rally. Ask any veteran team..they will tell you…This is a “ Must Do” for any rookie team! Note:  It is also a must do for most Veteran teams also as they use this to sharpen their skills for the upcoming rally season! We will traditionally have many past Championship teams as well as the top teams from across the nation in attendance.   \nThe rally will consist of a short “Practice” rally\, then two full days of rally competition\, and then one championship half day run. The “Veteran” or experienced “Rookie” teams will generally be running in the “Dash For Cash” classes. Others may opt for the “Open Class’ as it is for those wishing to merely test their rally skills. No matter the class\, you will all run the same course and be scored in the same manner. \nWill you have fun??  VCRA makes sure you have a great experience with each evening offering the now famous “hosted evening reception” to assure your pleasure. A “Welcome Luncheon” and an “Awards Luncheon” is included in the entry. VCRA pays out the largest cash prizes vs entry fee than any other rally in the country. And the hotel has committed to an excellence that they do live up to! \nAs we further develop the rally course\, we will keep you updated. One thing is for sure and we guarantee this — You will have fun\, you will learn\, and you will make lifetime friends!!!  There are no better folks on earth than then old car rally family…join us for the experience of a lifetime!!! \nStay tuned for more info! We look forward to seeing you\, and should you have any questions just call or e-mail.

SUMMARY:NY: Absolute Zero Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Rallymaster Frank Beyer (aka Dr Devio)\, wants to share 50 years of going out to the backroads of Upstate New York to enjoy his car\, the countryside and rally friends.\nThis first event is a refresher on rallying and as it was in the days before rally computers and GPS\, when everyone ran SOP (seat of the pants). \nThe SCCA Central New York Region\, begins their 2018 Road Rally Season with the Absolute Zero\, a road rally based out of Richfield Springs\, NY. Many favorite unpaved and paved country roads in the hills of Ostego County and the Catskill area around Cooperstown will be used. One Class\, a pencil and paper\, and it will be just like 1968 — no specialized rally or navigation equipment will be allowed! \nMore details and timetables as soon as the snow melts and the courses are finalized.

SUMMARY:NY: Great American Mountain Rallye
DESCRIPTION:FROM THE EVENT ORGANIZERS — September 3rd Update! \nAutomotive rally teams from the northeastern U.S. and beyond will gather October 12–14\, 2018\, to challenge their cars and themselves in a 700-mile Revival of the Great American Mountain Rallye (GAMR)\, a European-style endurance event that was held annually from 1953-1957 in upstate N.Y. and New England. \nThe route of the Great American Mountain Rally Revival has been finalized. The rally is made of transits between self-start timed sections. While there are times required to complete the entire day\, it is not necessary to be on time all the time; therefore\, drivers can enjoy the mountain roads and the colorful autumn leaves that New England is famous for in the fall without the constant timing stress except for the timed sections. \nIf you want to take part in the Great American Mountain Rally Revival or have any questions\, then please call the Rallymaster: Gary Hamilton: 978-500-8039 or E-mail questions to: GAMRR2018@gmail.com (preferred as we may not always be in good cellphone reception).\n \nTo learn more about the Great American Mountain Rally Revival\, click here\, and you’ll be taken directly to MotorsportReg\, where you can also register your team!\n \nYou can also head over to the Steve McKelvie blog by clicking here. You’ll want to check out other rally writings there\, too; it is a wonderful blog for our sport!\nGeneral Instructions will be posted on the New England Region website at www.ner.org.\n_________________________________________________________________________ \nWe do have a post on the website for the event from February 2018\, and we received this update on March 25th — \nWe have been working on a revival of the Historic Great American Mountain Rallye that was run in the mid-late 50s from NY up through New England to the Canadian Border. \nIt is finally coming to fruition. \nWe have some sponsors\, including Hemmings\, and the Sports Car Club of America will sanction it! \n_______________________________________________ \nMarch 23\, 2018 \nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \nCONTACTS:Gary Hamilton\, Rallymaster\, 978-500-8039 GAMRR2018@gmail.comSteve McKelvie\, Rally Chair\, 508-520-7135 shanna12@comcast.net \nRevival of 1950s Great American Mountain Rallyeto challenge drivers and cars retracing the historic 800-mile route\nELDRED\, N.Y. — Automotive rally teams from the northeastern U.S. and beyond will gather October 11–14\, 2018\, to challenge their cars and themselves in an 700-mile Revival of the Great American Mountain Rallye [GAMR]\, a European-style endurance event that was held annually from 1953-1957 in upstate N.Y. and New England. \nDriver-and-navigator teams competing in the GAMR Revival will gather on Thursday\, October 11\, 2018\, at Churchill Classic Cars\, Eldred\, New York\, for orientation/inspection. Teams will receive authentic 1953 Mobilgas maps and written instructions about which portions of the original 1100-mile GAMR route to follow. The next morning\, drivers will start their engines\, and navigators will guide them northward through Vermont to the Canadian border\, southward to New Hampshire\, and then back over the Vermont border to the finish line. Rally officials will throw the checkered flag on Sunday\, October 14\, 2018\, at Hemmings Motor News in Bennington\, Vermont. \n“This is an extraordinary event that will celebrate the way rallies used to be\,” said Rally Chairman Steve McKelvie. “Although it’s not a typical rally\, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) has sanctioned the event as a New England Regional Rally.” \nThe original GAMR\, described in April 1956 by Auto Age as “America’s longest\, toughest\, and coldest rallye\,” was the first U.S. rally listed by Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). It attracted local amateurs\, top drivers from American car clubs\, automotive factory teams\, and driving celebrities. \nThe Rootes Motors team in 1953 and 1954 entered top British driver Sheila van Damm. In 1954\, Formula 1 racer Stirling Moss competed. In 1956\, F1 Champion Juan Manuel Fangio served as the official starter\, throwing the green flag; and Monte Carlo Rally winner Maurice Gatsonides was a contender. Cars included both foreign and domestic\, such as the Buick Century\, Chevrolet Corvette\, Ford Crestliner\, English Ford Anglia\, Jaguar XK140\, Lincoln Capri\, MG TF and Magnette\, Porsche 356 Speedster\, Renault 4CV\, Saab 93\, Sunbeam Alpine\, and Triumph TR3. \nPrior to starting the Revival on October 12\, this year’s teams will receive route instructions in a written narrative and original 1953 Mobilgas Maps of Southern and Northern New England: identical to those of 60-odd years ago. Only roads appearing on these maps will be included. All teams will be restricted to equipment similar to that used in original GAMRs: \n• Rally odometers with up to 2 distance displays are permitted; rally computers providing average speed information are not allowed\, except for Halda Speedpilots.• Mechanical calculators and slide rules are permitted; electronic calculators are not.• Paper speed tables are permitted; electronic speed tables are not.• Clocks and stopwatches are permitted without restriction.• GPS mapping assists are not permitted. \nAt the 2018 finish line\, 1st\, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded in 3 classes: \n• Original: Cars that could have competed in 1950s GAMRs (model year 1957 or older)• Classic: Cars of model years 1958-1980• Modern: Cars of model years 1981 or newer \nGary Hamilton\, a land surveyor from Ipswich\, Massachusetts\, and Steve McKelvie\, a civil engineer from Franklin\, Massachusetts\, collaborated to recreate the 2018 GAMR Revival as authentically as possible. Original rules required entrants to use written instructions and 1953 Mobilgas Maps. \nArmed with the above information—as well as Google Earth© and Garmin Basecamp© software—Hamilton developed the route into a map. The original GAMR rallies were modeled on Europe’s grueling classic rallies\, and Hamilton and McKelvie continued with this approach: “Why go to Europe when you can do a European-style rally here?” asks McKelvie.

SUMMARY:OR: Ghouls Gambol Road Rally: Whiskers' Big Day
DESCRIPTION:Happy Halloween and Welcome to Ghouls GambolFor over 50 years ghosts\, goblins\, spooks\, spirits\, the dead\, the undead\, and even the mostly dead have returned to haunt the Cascade Sports Car Club’s Halloween road rally. In years past rally teams have had to navigate through cemetaries to find hidden clues\, reach into a screaming victim’s chest\, or worse. There have been haunted locations – like the legendary barn on Pumpkin Ridge or the slaughter house. The slaughter house…they say if you listen on a cold\, crisp October night you can still hear the screams. \nThis year the rally explores Washington County’s farmland and autumn colors. Roads are generally paved with less than 3 miles of unpaved roads. Speeds are reasonable\, a rally is not a race. The rally includes a stop at Lakeview Farms*.  Take the train through Halloween tunnels\, see what lurks beneath the surface when riding the sternwheeler over the lake\, explore the hay maze\, pick up a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch\, and visit the fall harvest gift shop. Lots to do and see at Lakeview Farms. But keep track of the time – you’re still on a road rally! \nThe rally will include both tricks and treats – standard CSCC rally rules apply. And yes\, the event is suitable for beginners\, er\, victims. \nPrizes for first through third in rally classes plus best costume(s) and best decorated vehicle.\nClasses include: Unlimited\, SOP and Nervous. \nCost: $25 per car ($20 for CSCC members) \n* LakeView Farms activity costs not included \n#comeroadrally \nSubmitted by Victoria Saager

SUMMARY:NY: Route of All Evil Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Rallymaster Frank Beyer (aka Dr Devio)\, wanted to share 50 years of going out to the backroads of Upstate New York to enjoy his car\, the countryside and rally friends. The Absolute Zero rally was held May 19th to serve as a refresher on rallying before rally computers and GPS\, when everyone ran SOP (seat of the pants).\nThe SCCA Central New York Region will sanction the Route of All Evil (Easier Said Than Done)\, based out of Norwich\, NY. 270 miles of brisk driving\, appropriate to the roads. In the tradition of the Covered Bridge Rally\, we’re using the Vermont Winter Challenge format: Section A has written instructions with some unique route situations\, where you’ll be challenged\, amused and on-course. Section B starts with a highlighted map and finishes with tulips and mileages. Section C is all tulips and mileages. \nTSD experience will be helpful. Standard Equipment Classes with a separate award for best finish using GPS. \nThis event will be by pre-registration only. Entry fee is $100 per car\, cash only payment. \nFor General Instructions\, Registration\, and additional questions\, please contact Rallymaster Frank Beyer!

SUMMARY:MN: Cannon River Rally
DESCRIPTION:Rally starts at the in Historic Hastings\, MN at the American Legion overlooking the Mississippi River. After a drive along the river we hit the twisty windy roads of the Cannon River Valley.  Most roads are unpaved. On the way to the break in Red Wing we pass thru Welch\, MN. Then some of the roads made famous on the Flamethrower are used before returning to the Cannon river valley for the finishing controls ending at the Trilion Brewing Company in downtown Cannon Falls. The brewery is situated on the Cannon River with great views of the river to go along with the great beer. (Craft Root Beer available as well). The brewery serves no food but has pop corn. We are planning to order in some pizzas. You can also bring your own food if you wish. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n This rally will use the MiRally worker-less control system. The MiRally system is very similar to the timing used on the Historic Monte Carlo rally. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n A new kind or rally in the United States. The MiRally worker less control system will be employed. Each car will need to have an iOS or Android device running the Crono app. This app monitors your location using GPS and reports it to a central Timing and Scoring facility in the cloud. The timing points will be essentially Passage Controls. A timed section\, usually 2 -5 miles may provide timing points every quarter mile. With 11 timing zones we will approach 100 controls. \n\n\n\n Contestants need to download and sign up for the MiRally Crono app at the appropriate place for your smart phone. This is MANDATORY. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n The Rabbit Rally app is optional. Get it from Google Play or Apple App store. You will be given an RBK file that greatly simplifies the running of the rally. It should be run on a different device than Crono. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n The Rally Rabbit app makes it easier for people to score well on the event as it helps you stay on time. If you are proficient at timekeeping your current method should continue to serve you well.

SUMMARY:MI: Son of Sno*Drift XXI
DESCRIPTION:Son of Sno*Drift is intended to be a winter rally. As such\, it is hoped that the challenges of winter driving will be a part of the fun. Son of Sno*Drift is a straightforward Time\, Speed\, Distance (TSD) Road Rally with simple instructions and no traps.  NOVICES Welcome! \n\n\n\nRoads used on Son of Sno*Drift will be primarily unpaved and run within Livingston\, Washtenaw and Jackson counties. Total distance will be approximately 175 miles with two breaks. Mileages will be provided with each instruction\, which will be by tulip diagram and written description. \n\n\n\nWith very few exceptions\, this rally will run to the SCCA Tour Rally Rules. his event will count toward the Detroit Region and Great Lakes Division SCCA Road Rally Championships. \n\n\n\nATTENTION! If you intend to use a TSD rally app on your smart phone or tablet device in this rally\, you MUST read the following carefully and register to compete in the appropriate equipment class – either Stock or Limited. \n\n\n\nStock class requires that you use an app that does not incorporate automatic mileage measurement from any distance measuring source. This includes any app that automatically accumulates mileage utilizing the device’s internal GPS. You must manually enter mileages into the app using the app’s mileage input function. Furthermore the mileages entered into the app must come from the car’s stock odometer. You may not use any external odometer or a GPS-based odometer app on a phone or tablet device for rally computer app mileage input sources in Stock class. \n\n\n\nYou may choose to use a TSD rally computer app on your phone or tablet that automatically accumulates mileage based upon input from the device’s internal GPS\, or from a separate third-party GPS receiver. However\, using an app that automatically accumulates distance based upon GPS position data places you into Limited class. YOU CAN NOT RUN IN STOCK CLASS with any app that automatically accumulates mileage from any source. \n\n\n\nNote that Novice class requirements are identical to Stock class. If you otherwise would qualify as a Novice class competitor (driver and navigator\, combined\, have competed in six or fewer rallies)\, but choose to use an app that automatically accumulates mileage from a GPS source you must compete in Limited class. \n\n\n\nSon of Sno*Drift is not to be confused with the “Sno*Drift” Performance Rally\, which is part of the American Rally Association series. Son of Sno*Drift is expected to be a challenge to the driver\, navigator and vehicle. Suitable tires and nighttime driving lights are recommended. Snow extraction equipment is also a wise idea.  This should include\, warning triangle(s)\, tow strap\, shovel\, warning triangle(s) etc. \n\n\n\nTentative schedule:        10:30 AM        Registration Opens/ Route Instructions available                                       12:00 PM             Safety Meeting                                       12:31 PM             Car #1 Starts Rally                                         3:31 PM             Car #1 Starts Section Two (Tentative) 6:31 PM             Car #1 Starts Section Three (Tentative) 8:30 PM             Car #1 Finishes (Approx.) \n\n\n\nEntry fees (per car):        $45 for SCCA members who register by January 9th                                        Add $10 January 10th through the day of rally                                        Add $5 if both entrants are not SCCA members \n\n\n\nAwards will be presented to the first and second place teams in each of the following classes:E (Equipped) – unlimited equipment.L (Limited) – no limits on distance measuring equipment\, but only a GPS odometer can be connected to the computer.S (Stock) – distance measurement limited to the stock odometer\, in stock location. GPS odometers may NOT be used in this Class for any timing calculations.N (Novice) – any team where the total number of rallies entered by the two members of the team does not exceed six (6); and equipment is restricted to that of the Stock class. \n\n\n\nThe event will start at Aubree’s Pizzeria & Grill\, 21775 Pontiac Trail\, South Lyon\, MI. \n\n\n\nFor more information:            (Chairman) Scott Harvey:  Scott@TeamHarco.com            (2018 Rally Director) John Fishbeck: fishbeck@msu.edu          (2019 Rally Director) Piotr Roszczenko: Piotr.SCCA@gmail.com          (Registrar) Mary Shiloff: mshiloff@comcast.net    \n\n\n\nLearn more about Detroit SCCA and rally at: www.Detroit-SCCA.org \n\n\n\nTeam Harco Motorsports is your local source for Nokian and Hakkapeliitta winter tires (other tire brands are also available).  Make Team Harco your choice for tires.  Use the contact information above for Scott Harvey.  Learn more about the world’s finest winter tires at: http://www.nokiantires.com/ \n\n\n\nMotel accommodations in the area: Best Western of Whitmore Lake 9897 North Main St\, Whitmore Lake\, MI 48189 (734) 449-2059

SUMMARY:VT: Winter Challenge Rally
DESCRIPTION:The 15th Annual Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will consist of a single SCCA New England Region rally running from 4 PM Saturday until 2 AM Sunday with two breaks. Although no car-breaking roads will be used\, the majority of the roads chosen are rural and unpaved roads\, which will undoubtedly be snow and ice covered. The rally will go no further east than Littleton\, NH\, no further north than Lyndon\, VT\, no further west than Montpelier\, VT\, and no further south than Randolph\, VT. \nThis year the rally will again be STRAIGHT-FORWARD; no tricks and traps\, perhaps a bit less ‘busy’\, but with two or three opportunities to get off time – but NOT off course! It will\, of course\, be necessary to drive ‘briskly\,’ mostly in the third section. \nThe route of the rally will be approximately 250 miles\, with a maximum distance between gas stops of 90 miles. The break between sections will be about 1 hour. There will be approximately one control per every 9 miles of rallying! (That’s one of the things that makes rallying ‘fun’.) \nMuch of the rally will be run at night on remote back roads. You and your vehicle must be prepared for backcountry winter driving. This means good winter tires or DOT-approved studs\, a warning triangle\, a shovel\, and a tow rope for the vehicle. This means warm clothes\, blankets\, flashlights\, food\, and whatever else you deem essential. \nThe 15th Winter Challenge Rally will be broken into three sections\, each with its challenges and instruction format. \nThe first section will be in the written instruction format. This section will be a TSD rally; a relatively easy course following; I don’t expect people to go off-course! Some TSD experience is always helpful. Boringly slow! \nThe second section will be a combination of 2-15 mile map sections and tulip diagrams\, brisk in places. \nThe third section will be tulip drawings\, with mileages to most instructions; brisk in places. \nOverall the Winter Challenge will be a thorough test of competitors’ rally expertise\, ability to use their heads\, and car control on snowy roads. \nSTART/FINISH: The Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will headquarters at The Hollow Inn. There are some additional lodging options in the area. The Hollow Inn will try and accommodate an early check-in time of 11 AM; ask about it when making reservations. \nDIRECTIONS: From I-89\, take Exit 6 (Rte 63); follow four mi. to the traffic light. Left on Rte 14. On the right\, approximately 3/4 mile. \nFEE SCHEDULE: \nSCCA Member           $ 50.00 \n2 Non-Members         $ 60.00 \nLate                             + $20.00 \nRALLY CLASSES: \nClass A: Allows full rally computers and/or extra odos. \nClass S: Stock Odometer in stock location or GPS – odo portion only. \nNo NER Novice \nSCHEDULE: \nRegistration: 1 PM – 2 PM \nQuestion time (optional): 2 PM \nRI’s given out: 3 PM \nDriver’s Meeting: 3:30 PM (mandatory) \nFirst Car Start: 4 PM + \nFirst Car Finish: 2 AM (approximately) \nAwards/we’ll have some: 3 AM \nGENERAL NOTES: \n\n The rally entry will be limited (30 cars).\n Normal entries close [in hand with proper fee]: Monday\, 4 February 2019\n 4PM start again to allow people from far away to get to the start on time.\n The rally this year will be straightforward – no ‘onto’\, no ‘redundant instructions’\, etc.\n\n The Rallymaster had his fill of these setting up A Bridge Too Far. \n\n The “Question Time” will explain TA’s\, TZ and basic timing info only (not required).\n Rally Generals will not be mailed (posted at www.winterchallengerally.com).\n Rally will run regardless of the weather. \n Recommend for map reading: Large Magnifying Glass\, Dividers.\n Start order: Class A (A ‘draw’ will be held for actual start positions); Class S.\n There will be an adjustment factor between 2-wd & 4-wd in Section 3.\n Ongoing information will be on www.winterchallengerally.com.\n Questions can be addressed via: johnbuffum1@gmail.com (JB).\n This rally tries to emulate the road rallies of the 60s.\n\nThe winner will be\, indeed\, the most versatile and best road rally team!
