SUMMARY:NJ: The GPS Monte Rally
DESCRIPTION:Join the South Jersey Region SCCA for their last RoadRally event of the summer\, the GPS Monte Rally. This unique event will present an entirely new kind of challenge for experienced rallyists\, and a fun introduction to the sport for newcomers.\nThe GPS Monte Rally combines elements from the two types of events from which it derives its name. Competitors route instructions will consist of a simple list of Latitude/Longitude coordinates\, each with a keytime. Connect the dots by navigating to each location in order\, traveling through the back roads of South Jersey\, attempting to arrive as close to the given keytime as possible. This rally requires a standalone or smartphone GPS that can accept Lat./Long. coordinates\, and a car you don’t mind getting just a little dirty – the route will include unpaved and dirt roads. \nA RoadRally is a test of precision driving and navigation. It is NOT a race! The goal is to reach each checkpoint exactly on time\, neither early nor late. The event takes place on public roads\, with speeds at or below the legal limit. If you’re a car enthusiast\, like puzzles\, enjoy driving through scenic countryside\, or are just looking for an interesting activity and the opportunity to meet new people\, you ought to give RoadRallying a try! All you need are two people (a driver and navigator) and a car\, small truck\, or van. \nAfterwards\, all the competitors are invited to have a drink\, grab a bite to eat\, and swap war stories about the day’s event at the finishing location\, Carolina Blue in Pitman. Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers. If you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to contact the Rally Chairperson\, Jim Wakemen. \nRegistration opens at 10:30 am. First car is off at 11:16 am. \nThe rally cars should be finished by approximately 4:00 pm. \nEntry fess are $25-$35 per team.

SUMMARY:IL: 57 Adventures (&TSD) Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:57 Adventures (&TSD) Road Rally   \nThat crazy Jerry White is putting on another Champaign County Sports Car Club Adventure and TSD road rally. Rallyists can participate in the traditional Time Speed Distance Classes and/or an Adventure Class where the emphasis is to follow the course and answer interesting questions. Yep\, and/or means you can participate in both the Adventure Class and a normal timed class at the same time if you want to. With over 100 miles of rally and some crazy interstate stuff there is plenty to keep everyone smiling and on their toes. Bring your buddy\, bring your friend\, bring your date\, or bring anyone else you can capture and come on out to join in the fun. If you can’t recruit a buddy\, etc. just come alone and team up with someone during on-site registration. \nPlease study the rally’s General Instructions before coming if you can. Long time rallyists will note many differences from standard generals. My hope is that the changes will give first time rallyists much of the ‘insider’ knowledge that long time rallyists have (unfairly) taken advantage of in the past. \nI also hope that the process of running the rally works out to be either easier or about the same as it always has in spite of the changes. At 9:15am I will conduct a ‘read through’ of the generals to explain them to everyone. As always\, spouses and friends who don’t run the rally are welcome to come to the Illini Nissan after it to listen to participants’ tall tales about all the adversities (and possibly some mistakes) they overcame to complete the event. \nLunch will be 12:30P at The Humble Hog\, 125 S Market Street\, Paxton\, IL. We should be back to Illini NISSAN about 3PM. \nRegistration Info and Minor Waiver\nThe entry fee will be $20.00 per team. \nSo that the rallymaster will know about how many cars to expect you are encouraged to preregister on AXWare Systems Online Race Management web site and/or to post your intention to come on the CICEnet.net thread for the rally. Minors need a completed Parental Consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Forms will also be available at on-site registration. \nParticipants should try to arrive close to the time registration opens so they will have time to certify that the driver’s insurance meets the appropriate state’s standards\, that the driver has a valid license\, that the rally vehicle is being used with the permission of the owner\, is in safe operating condition\, is on the road legally\, and that all its operational items such as lights\, turn signals\, brakes\, horn\, tires\, mirrors\, seat belts\, windshield wipers and windshield washer are in proper working order. \nEarly arrival also gives participants time to listen to the review of the rally’s general rules and to ask other rally participants questions. This last is especially important for those who have never run a rally before. \nWhat to bring if you are new to road rally?\n1. A watch that can be set to seconds\n2. Pen/pencil (highlighters recommended)\n3. Clipboard or lap desk

SUMMARY:PA: It’s About Time XXI Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Ridge Mountain Sports Car Club presents It’s About Time XXI Road Rally on February 21\, 2016. \nRegistration:  Registration is at 12:00PM and the first car starts at 1:01 PM. Rally fee is $10. \nStart: McDonald’s on Route 22 in Delmont. \nThere will be a break at the Sheetz in Blairsville\, and the event will end at the Boulevard Restaurant across US22 from the start. \nDescription: A trap rally with changing main road rules and lettered route instructions (only 5). These will all be on stickers. The course is 65 miles\, and the first car should finish about 4:45 PM. \nTo receive a copy of the General Instruction set by email\, contact Chuck by Thursday Feb 18th at refdesignpit@comcast.net \nWhat beginners should bring with them: \nFor starters – there should be two of you in the car: a driver\, and a navigator (who isn’t inclined to get car-sick reading while moving\, or has an antidote for it). \nBring a mechanically sound car* that has a tenths -reading odometer (a resettable trip odometer can be a help)\, a clipboard\, a four function calculator\, several working pens\, a set of highlighters (for marking up the route instructions) and post-it notes. \nIf you can choose between a mechanical odometer that ‘rolls’ and a digital display\, the mechanical will enable you to interpolate to the hundredths. If you only have the digital tenths\, then you’ll have to do a lot more ‘guessing’ in between the numbers clicking over. We have folks who have gotten good at this with practice! \nWhile every team has their own procedure\, it’s useful to be able to highlight things like speed changes\, and free zones (remember – there is a tutorial to get you started!) so that ‘on the road’ it helps you remember them better.  The post-its are to stick on your dashboard to remind the driver of the assigned speeds and what the active course following priorities are. \nAlso – having a good map of the area that includes secondary (and tertiary roads) can be very helpful if you get lost and can’t regain the rally course. \n*While a cell phone and a AAA membership can’t hurt\, a lot of the time\, we’ll be traveling on roads that are well off the beaten track\, and you may not have much of a description of where you are!  ‘Well – we got here by turning left after ‘Snodgrass’\, then right at T\, and left by protection… ‘  While a GPS unit probably won’t help you very much while running the rally\, it may be very useful for telling AAA where you are if you break down.
