SUMMARY:PA: 2019 Food Drive Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Everyone feels great about giving during the holidays\, but what happens when we get into the depths of winter after the New Year? It’s cold\, it’s dark\, but people are still hungry. The SCCA Philadelphia Region says let’s break out some cars and drive for a good cause. The 2019 Food Drive Road Rally is limited to 15 teams. We maxed out of the last rally so sign up early! We absolutely will not be able to exceed the limit of entrants. \n\n\n\nThis charity road rally will take you through some amazing back roads in Montgomery and Berks Counties to help you scratch that driving itch that builds up during the offseason. Your entry fee will be 10 donation-appropriate food items. \n\n\n\nThis year’s beneficiary will be the Bucks County Housing Group. \n\n\n\nFOOD BANK DONATIONS NEEDED: \n\n\n\n\nProtein: Canned meats such as tuna\, chicken\, and salmon. Beans\, canned or dried. Split peas and lentils. Peanut butter.\n\n\n\nGrain: Pasta\, rice\, or quinoa. Oatmeal or breakfast cereals (whole grain or low sugar).\n\n\n\nDairy: Shelf stable milk\, non-fat dried powder milk\, or dry-grated Parmesan cheese.\n\n\n\nPrepared meals: Pasta sauces\, stews\, canned pasta\, baked beans\, or Mac & Cheese. Chunky soups.\n\n\n\nFruits: Canned fruit in its own juice or 100% fruit juice.\n\n\n\nVegetables: Especially carrots\, potatoes\, yams\, or tomatoes.\n\n\n\nBaking goods: Cake mix\, flour\, or sugar.\n\n\n\nFresh Produce that does not require refrigeration\, like onions\, garlic\, oranges\, carrots\, potatoes\, sweet potatoes\, apples\, pears\, or bananas.\n\n\n\nOther items: Olive oil\, canola oil\, broths\, lemon juice\, or vinegar. Spices such as pepper\, cinnamon\, oregano\, parsley\, or chili powder. Healthy snacks. Ketchup\, mayo\, or salad dressings.\n\n\n\n\nThe Bucks County Housing Group is unable to accept: • Open packages • Homemade food items • Items with “expired” dates• Items in glass jars \n\n\n\nExceeding the 10 item registration minimum will benefit your score! Head over to https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/2019-food-drive-charity-road-rally-green-lane-park-scca-philadelphia-630198 and register today. \n\n\n\nThis will be a GTA-style rally using our usual general instructions \n\n\n\nRegistration will open at 9:45 AM\, with drivers’ meeting at 10:45 a.m.\, and the first car will be off at approx. 11:00 AM.  \n\n\n\nWe’ll be wrapping things up in the Collegeville area for lunch and awards.  The first cars should get to the endpoint around 2:00 PM\, give or take a half hour.  We will offer novice and experienced classes as usual.  If you’ve done more than 2 Philly SCCA region rallies in the last 3 years\, you should consider the experienced class. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this rally will contain some unpaved surfaces.  There should be no significant issues with ground clearance or road damage.  You may want to leave your LaFerrari at home for this event\, but those of you in lowered vehicles should be fine.

SUMMARY:VT: Winter Challenge Rally
DESCRIPTION:The 15th Annual Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will consist of a single SCCA New England Region rally running from 4 PM Saturday until 2 AM Sunday with two breaks. Although no car-breaking roads will be used\, the majority of the roads chosen are rural and unpaved roads\, which will undoubtedly be snow and ice covered. The rally will go no further east than Littleton\, NH\, no further north than Lyndon\, VT\, no further west than Montpelier\, VT\, and no further south than Randolph\, VT. \nThis year the rally will again be STRAIGHT-FORWARD; no tricks and traps\, perhaps a bit less ‘busy’\, but with two or three opportunities to get off time – but NOT off course! It will\, of course\, be necessary to drive ‘briskly\,’ mostly in the third section. \nThe route of the rally will be approximately 250 miles\, with a maximum distance between gas stops of 90 miles. The break between sections will be about 1 hour. There will be approximately one control per every 9 miles of rallying! (That’s one of the things that makes rallying ‘fun’.) \nMuch of the rally will be run at night on remote back roads. You and your vehicle must be prepared for backcountry winter driving. This means good winter tires or DOT-approved studs\, a warning triangle\, a shovel\, and a tow rope for the vehicle. This means warm clothes\, blankets\, flashlights\, food\, and whatever else you deem essential. \nThe 15th Winter Challenge Rally will be broken into three sections\, each with its challenges and instruction format. \nThe first section will be in the written instruction format. This section will be a TSD rally; a relatively easy course following; I don’t expect people to go off-course! Some TSD experience is always helpful. Boringly slow! \nThe second section will be a combination of 2-15 mile map sections and tulip diagrams\, brisk in places. \nThe third section will be tulip drawings\, with mileages to most instructions; brisk in places. \nOverall the Winter Challenge will be a thorough test of competitors’ rally expertise\, ability to use their heads\, and car control on snowy roads. \nSTART/FINISH: The Winter Challenge Rally Weekend will headquarters at The Hollow Inn. There are some additional lodging options in the area. The Hollow Inn will try and accommodate an early check-in time of 11 AM; ask about it when making reservations. \nDIRECTIONS: From I-89\, take Exit 6 (Rte 63); follow four mi. to the traffic light. Left on Rte 14. On the right\, approximately 3/4 mile. \nFEE SCHEDULE: \nSCCA Member           $ 50.00 \n2 Non-Members         $ 60.00 \nLate                             + $20.00 \nRALLY CLASSES: \nClass A: Allows full rally computers and/or extra odos. \nClass S: Stock Odometer in stock location or GPS – odo portion only. \nNo NER Novice \nSCHEDULE: \nRegistration: 1 PM – 2 PM \nQuestion time (optional): 2 PM \nRI’s given out: 3 PM \nDriver’s Meeting: 3:30 PM (mandatory) \nFirst Car Start: 4 PM + \nFirst Car Finish: 2 AM (approximately) \nAwards/we’ll have some: 3 AM \nGENERAL NOTES: \n\n The rally entry will be limited (30 cars).\n Normal entries close [in hand with proper fee]: Monday\, 4 February 2019\n 4PM start again to allow people from far away to get to the start on time.\n The rally this year will be straightforward – no ‘onto’\, no ‘redundant instructions’\, etc.\n\n The Rallymaster had his fill of these setting up A Bridge Too Far. \n\n The “Question Time” will explain TA’s\, TZ and basic timing info only (not required).\n Rally Generals will not be mailed (posted at www.winterchallengerally.com).\n Rally will run regardless of the weather. \n Recommend for map reading: Large Magnifying Glass\, Dividers.\n Start order: Class A (A ‘draw’ will be held for actual start positions); Class S.\n There will be an adjustment factor between 2-wd & 4-wd in Section 3.\n Ongoing information will be on www.winterchallengerally.com.\n Questions can be addressed via: johnbuffum1@gmail.com (JB).\n This rally tries to emulate the road rallies of the 60s.\n\nThe winner will be\, indeed\, the most versatile and best road rally team!
