SUMMARY:ME: The Great Race Maine to Florida
DESCRIPTION:Hemmings Motor News presents Great Race – Maine to Florida – June 19 to 29th!\nThe Great Race is an antique\, vintage\, and collector car competitive controlled-speed endurance road rally on public highways. It is not a test of top speed. It is a test of a driver/navigator team’s ability to follow precise course instructions and the car’s (and team’s) ability to endure on a cross-country trip. The course instructions require the competing teams to drive at or below the posted speed limits at all times.\nQ: Can you describe How the Great Race works?\nA: Each day the driver and navigator team receives a set of course instructions that indicate every turn\, speed change\, stop\, and start that the team must make throughout the day (usually 220 to 250 such instructions per day). Along the course route there will be from 4 to 7 checkpoints recording the exact time that the team passes that point. The objective is to arrive at each checkpoint at the correct time\, not the fastest. The score for each team is the result of the team’s ability to follow the designated course instructions precisely. Every second off the perfect time (early or late) at each checkpoint is a penalty point. This format is much more mentally demanding than a flat-out cross-country race. Also\, GPS or computers are not permitted and odometers are taped over. This is a test of human mental agility and endurance as well as classic car endurance\, rather than programming capability. The course avoids timed segments on interstate highways\, opting instead for scenic local\, county\, and state highways whenever possible through some of the prettiest country in the United States. \nQ: Is there an age limit for the cars that can enter the race?\nA: Any car up through model year 1972 is eligible to enter. For purposes of scoring\, the older the vehicle\, the better the age factor adjustment the team will receive. Newer vehicles are permitted in Regional Rallies. But for the Great Race\, the vehicle must be 1972 or older. \nQ: Can you tell us what is included in the entry fee?\nA: The entry fee pays for your entry in the rally/contest\, as well as banquets\, festivities and activities (such as museums). The funds are used to pay for the awards and the prize purse as well as for the logistics of the race (we’ll have 30+ volunteers and paid staff members who will be conducting all the behind the scenes logistics traveling with the tour and staying at the same hotels). Lunch is also provided for the driver/navigator teams. For those teams who also bring along a support crew and/or spouses and family\, we do not permit them to follow along or drive on the course during the day\, but provide them a route to allow them to go directly to the next overnight stop and wait for the team to arrive. So\, those folks would need to buy their lunch. (Many support crews wind up doing some great sight-seeing along the way.) Dinner is also provided for the entire team including listed support personnel. Many of the hotels we have lined up will be providing breakfast. All other meals\, snacks and such are paid for by the participants themselves. You will pay for your hotel rooms\, which should be booked through the secure website provided by our designated travel agent. We have negotiated reduced rates at each of the hotels that are lower than their standard rates. We do not receive any money and have done this simply to help save our racers and their support crews money and keep everyone together in one or two hotels as much as possible. All hotels are good quality chain motels such as Hampton Inn\, Radisson\, Marriott\, Holiday Inn\, etc\, and recently constructed or totally renovated.

SUMMARY:IL: Watershed Adventure (&TSD) Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Champaign County Sports Car Club is trying another combination Adventure and TSD road rally. Rallyists can participate in an Adventure Class where the emphasis is to follow the course and answer questions. If you want you can participate in both the Adventure Class and a normal timed class.\nWith over 50 miles of rally\, some crazy new stuff\, and only concrete and asphalt roads there is plenty to keep everyone smiling. Bring your buddy\, bring your friend\, bring your date\, or bring anyone else you can grab ahold of and come on out to join in on the fun. If you can’t recruit a buddy\, etc. just come alone and team up with someone during registration. \nPlease study the rally’s General Instructions before coming if you can. Long time rallyists will note many differences from standard generals. My hope is that the changes will give first time rallyists much of the ‘insider’ knowledge that long time rallyists have (unfairly) taken advantage of in the past. I also hope that the process of running the rally works out to be either easier or about the same as it always has in spite of the changes. \nAt 9:15am I will conduct a ‘read through’ of the generals to explain them to everyone. As always\, spouses and friends who don’t run the rally are welcome to come to the Dos Reales Restaurant after it to listen to participants’ tall tales about all the adversities (and possibly some mistakes) they overcame to complete the event. \nRegistration: Illini NISSAN at 9AM \nWhat to bring if you are new to road rally?\n1. A watch that can be set to seconds\n2. Pen/pencil (highlighters recommended)\n3. Clipboard or lap desk

SUMMARY:NJ: The GPS Monte Rally
DESCRIPTION:Join the South Jersey Region SCCA for their last RoadRally event of the summer\, the GPS Monte Rally. This unique event will present an entirely new kind of challenge for experienced rallyists\, and a fun introduction to the sport for newcomers.\nThe GPS Monte Rally combines elements from the two types of events from which it derives its name. Competitors route instructions will consist of a simple list of Latitude/Longitude coordinates\, each with a keytime. Connect the dots by navigating to each location in order\, traveling through the back roads of South Jersey\, attempting to arrive as close to the given keytime as possible. This rally requires a standalone or smartphone GPS that can accept Lat./Long. coordinates\, and a car you don’t mind getting just a little dirty – the route will include unpaved and dirt roads. \nA RoadRally is a test of precision driving and navigation. It is NOT a race! The goal is to reach each checkpoint exactly on time\, neither early nor late. The event takes place on public roads\, with speeds at or below the legal limit. If you’re a car enthusiast\, like puzzles\, enjoy driving through scenic countryside\, or are just looking for an interesting activity and the opportunity to meet new people\, you ought to give RoadRallying a try! All you need are two people (a driver and navigator) and a car\, small truck\, or van. \nAfterwards\, all the competitors are invited to have a drink\, grab a bite to eat\, and swap war stories about the day’s event at the finishing location\, Carolina Blue in Pitman. Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers. If you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to contact the Rally Chairperson\, Jim Wakemen. \nRegistration opens at 10:30 am. First car is off at 11:16 am. \nThe rally cars should be finished by approximately 4:00 pm. \nEntry fess are $25-$35 per team.

SUMMARY:IL: 57 Adventures (&TSD) Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:57 Adventures (&TSD) Road Rally   \nThat crazy Jerry White is putting on another Champaign County Sports Car Club Adventure and TSD road rally. Rallyists can participate in the traditional Time Speed Distance Classes and/or an Adventure Class where the emphasis is to follow the course and answer interesting questions. Yep\, and/or means you can participate in both the Adventure Class and a normal timed class at the same time if you want to. With over 100 miles of rally and some crazy interstate stuff there is plenty to keep everyone smiling and on their toes. Bring your buddy\, bring your friend\, bring your date\, or bring anyone else you can capture and come on out to join in the fun. If you can’t recruit a buddy\, etc. just come alone and team up with someone during on-site registration. \nPlease study the rally’s General Instructions before coming if you can. Long time rallyists will note many differences from standard generals. My hope is that the changes will give first time rallyists much of the ‘insider’ knowledge that long time rallyists have (unfairly) taken advantage of in the past. \nI also hope that the process of running the rally works out to be either easier or about the same as it always has in spite of the changes. At 9:15am I will conduct a ‘read through’ of the generals to explain them to everyone. As always\, spouses and friends who don’t run the rally are welcome to come to the Illini Nissan after it to listen to participants’ tall tales about all the adversities (and possibly some mistakes) they overcame to complete the event. \nLunch will be 12:30P at The Humble Hog\, 125 S Market Street\, Paxton\, IL. We should be back to Illini NISSAN about 3PM. \nRegistration Info and Minor Waiver\nThe entry fee will be $20.00 per team. \nSo that the rallymaster will know about how many cars to expect you are encouraged to preregister on AXWare Systems Online Race Management web site and/or to post your intention to come on the CICEnet.net thread for the rally. Minors need a completed Parental Consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Forms will also be available at on-site registration. \nParticipants should try to arrive close to the time registration opens so they will have time to certify that the driver’s insurance meets the appropriate state’s standards\, that the driver has a valid license\, that the rally vehicle is being used with the permission of the owner\, is in safe operating condition\, is on the road legally\, and that all its operational items such as lights\, turn signals\, brakes\, horn\, tires\, mirrors\, seat belts\, windshield wipers and windshield washer are in proper working order. \nEarly arrival also gives participants time to listen to the review of the rally’s general rules and to ask other rally participants questions.
