SUMMARY:OR: Nor'wester Rally 2023 - Oregon Backroads Tour
DESCRIPTION:Nor’wester is a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) rally conducted since 1967\, by the Rainier Auto Sports Club. Entrants receive instructions with specific\, clear directions at speeds at or below legal limits\, with specific times to start each section at one-minute intervals. Nor’wester is a “closed control” format where cars do not stop at checkpoints. \n\n\n\nIt’s a pure touring rally with no tricks or traps and an equal penalty for passing a checkpoint (which may be hidden) early or late. Speeding is a sure way to lose as the goal is to pass at the correct second\, and the car with the least number of points wins. Precision timing is the main criterion\, but Nor’wester also emphasizes remote areas and spectacular scenery. \n\n\n\nRallymaster: Jim Breazeale\n\n\n\nRoutemaster: Ron Sorem\n\n\n\nRegistrar: Contact Eric Horst for questions about your registration or to make any changes after you register.\n\n\n\nEntry Fee: $300 per pre-paid auto entry\, $15 for an extra route book. No on-site registration. \n\n\n\nClasses: \n\n\n\nUnlimited\, Equipped\, Seat-Of-Pants\, Novice\, and Vintage auto (see clarifications in Supplemental General Instructions). \n\n\n\nGeneral Instructions:\n\n\n\nNor’Wester will use the Rainier Auto Sports Club Touring General Instructions (PDF format) available in Rally Reference along with Supplemental General Instructions specific to this event. Please be familiar with the definitions of your selected class. Supplemental Instructions may change at any time until the provisional start order is posted. Registration officially opened on July 1\, 2023. \n\n\n\nScoring:\n\n\n\nNor’wester will utilize Competitor – Richta GPS Checkpoints. In order to be scored you must load the  Competitor app on your own Android or IOS phone or tablet. For an overview\, see the NWRC_Competitor_Richta_App_Guide (PDF). \n\n\n\nCar numbers will be assigned on September 12th. The Competitor – Richta GPS Checkpoints event password will be e-mailed to all entrants on September 12th. You will be able to set up your app after you receive the event password. \n\n\n\nQuestions about Richta usage on this event can be directed to nw23scoring@rainierautosports.com. \n\n\n\nThe Competition:\n\n\n\nReview the Entry List after registration opens. \n\n\n\nStart & Finish location:\n\n\n\nCousin’s Country Inn\, 2114 W 6th St\, The Dalles\, OR 97058-3524  https://cousinscountryinn.com/. \n\n\n\nNor’wester rates are $119+tax for 2 Queen beds\, call 1-541-298-5161 for September 15-17 reservations. SUMMARY:FL: Buccaneer Region SCCA Inaugural RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to host the first-ever Buccaneer Region SCCA RoadRally! This first event will be a “GTA” or “gimmick” road rally in the style of a “poker run.” Each car will drive on paved public roads to a specific checkpoint using their provided GPS navigation where they will draw a playing card from a deck of cards and be given an envelope with the next checkpoint’s address. This will continue until the participants reach the final destination\, a restaurant where scoring\, awards\, and lunch will be available (you are responsible for purchasing your own food\, we encourage everyone to eat and support the location).  \n\n\n\nAny car is allowed\, such that it meets all Florida and Georgia state laws and is insured to meet those states’ minimum requirements. A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance will be required at on-site registration.  \n\n\n\nThere will not be any official classes or required car numbers for this event. Each car is allowed as many people as there are seatbelts in the vehicle\, but it is recommended that each car have at least two people\, a Driver and a Navigator\, such that teams can participate in the optional quizzes that will be provided at each checkpoint. There will be a starting location\, five (5) checkpoints\, followed by a finishing location.  \n\n\n\nOnline registration is required to attend\, there will be no on-site registration available. This event is rain or shine! \n\n\n\nFinishing Location: Steamboat Lilly’s (551429 US-1\, Hilliard\, FL 32046)Registration Fee: $20 for SCCA members\, $40 for non-SCCA members (includes weekend membership)Estimated Duration: 83 miles\, 2-2.5 hours in duration including time to pick up your card and examine the envelope contents. Breaks are allowed along the way at your leisure. Required Equipment: Modern smartphone with Google Maps (or the like) or equivalent GPS device capable of entering a street address.  \n\n\n\nEvent Schedule: \n\n\n\nFriday September 8th 11:59pm – Online event registration closesSunday September 10th 9:30am – On-site check in opensSunday September 10th 10:00am – First car outSunday September 10th 12:15pm (estimated) – First car arrivesSunday September 10th 1:00pm (estimated) – Award ceremony \n\n\n\nGENERAL INSTRUCTIONS \n\n\n\n1. INTRODUCTIONWelcome to our inaugural road rally\, created by the Buccaneer Region SCCA. The idea of this rally is to introduce participants to the idea of SCCA road rally in a fun\, game (gimmick) manner. You will start at the specified location\, and cars will leave 60 seconds apart from one another\, eventually ending at the specified location. Along the way\, participants will have the opportunity to answer questions to provide some entertainment for the passengers. The idea is to have some fun with your car and gather for a social event at the end.  \n\n\n\n2. COURSE FOLLOWINGAt check-in\, participants will be given an envelope that contains the first checkpoint’s name and street address\, along with a few questions that we encourage you to answer related to things you should see along that leg of the rally. Participants will enter the checkpoint address into their GPS or cell phone and follow the instructions it states to reach the destination. This is not a timed event\, and you must obey all local posted traffic laws – including the speed limits! If you are given a citation for any reason while participating\, your entry will be disqualified and no scores provided.  \n\n\n\n3. RALLY LEGSThe rally has six total legs. At each checkpoint\, the participants will select a card from a deck of cards\, and be provided with a new envelope containing the next checkpoint’s name and address\, along with a new set of questions for that leg. The entrant enters the newly provided street address into their GPS and continues on. It is encouraged that the questions provided are read prior to leaving the checkpoint as you never know when the answers may appear!  \n\n\n\n4. SCORINGAs this event is a “poker run”\, the participant’s “poker hand” will determine the winner. In the event of a tie\, the total number of correct answers to the questions will be used as the tiebreaker.  \n\n\n\n5. SAFETYPlease drive carefully. Obey the speed limit at all times. Anyone receiving a citation of any kind will be disqualified. All roads used are paved and open to the public. Use extra caution in residential and congested areas. \n\n\n\nEvent Requirements\n\n\n\nA valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance are required for each vehicle (driver) at onsite check-in.  \n\n\n\nRegistration is on MotorSportReg – Please read carefully: \n\n\n\nIf you are registering yourself for the first time and you will be paying for the event entry\, please choose Option 1 on the order form and follow the prompts. \n\n\n\nIf you are registering as a co-entrant and your partner has already registered\, please choose Option 2 on the order form. \n\n\n\nIf you do not already have a MotorsportReg.com account\, click the ‘Create New Account’ button below. You will be asked to input your member number and Region of Record.  This is your SCCA Membership number and home region. You must have this information in your user profile to avoid needing a weekend membership for this event. (Also\, make sure your MotorsportReg.com user name matches exactly as it appears on your SCCA Membership card… otherwise\, the member verification process will not validate your membership.) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Leave a ReplyCancel reply \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. SUMMARY:TX to CA: The 4th Trans-America
DESCRIPTION:America is a land intrinsically linked with the automobile\, and whilst the United States cannot lay a claim to being the ones that invented the contraption that we are all obsessed with\, thanks to the likes of Ford and Durant et al. the motor car became something that would touch the lives of many and not just a few. It is a country that has inspired many\, with its tall tales\, cities that reach up to the heavens\, huge landscapes and its all-encompassing skies. There is a long tradition of travel and a pull to enjoy life on the road\, whether that be mounted on a Hog on Route 66\, cruising in a Cadillac on the road to nowhere on Highway 3 or following in the footsteps of Kerouac\, Moriarty and Ginsberg\, on the road is very much a way of life. \n\n\n\nOur own On the Road adventure will take us from Houston to San Francisco\, on a route that heads almost all the way north to the Canadian border and then back down to the ‘city by the bay.’ As always\, with our adventures\, the route will take us on roads less travelled and whilst to see America is to cruise the freeways and highways\, the roads that beckon those who choose to take on this trip will be an altogether less straight forward affair\, giving us all the pleasure of seeing an America that many eyes never get to see. As Kerouac himself said\, “There is nowhere to go\, but everywhere.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver 21 days and thousands of miles our adventure will find our America\, it will introduce us to a land of contrasts\, some expected and some unexpected. Cowboy territory and the great plains will give way to the Rocky Mountains and high altitude passes\, as well as tumultuous river crossings as we forge our own route across the great divide. Gravel roads will often be our friends\, as we retrace the footsteps of the first pioneers that crossed these great lands\, national parks will be our solace against the dust of the plains and deserts\, offering a luscious oasis of green flora amongst fast flowing rivers and spectacular wildlife. For those with a head for heights the mighty Teton range will leave us breathless\, and the venerable and ancient trees of the Klamath Forest will leave us humbled. \n\n\n\nThe event is open for vintage and cars built before 1948 and for Classic cars of a type built before 1986. Cars of a later date but unchanged mechanical specification will be considered at the Organisers’ discretion. Classes based on engine size will subdivide these categories. \n\n\n\nThe event is suitable for both novice and more experienced crews. Many roads are good tarmac and gravel\, with competition on more remote roads\, private land or race circuits. An easy to follow tulip route book will be supplied. Our experienced team of officials will be at your disposal at all times to support you and we will provide hints and tips on navigation. \n\n\n\nWho can participate?\n\n\n\nThe event is open for vintage and cars built before 1948 and for Classic cars of a type built before 1986. SUMMARY:CA: Highway Robbery National Course Rally
DESCRIPTION:Highway Robbery\, an SCCA National RoadRally Course Championship Rally\, will run on Saturday\, August 19th. It’s a course rally that will test your ability to stay on course and on time. The rally will run primarily in San Bernardino County. There will be no absence of the sign traps and no lettered instructions. There will be ITIS (If There Is Such) instructions and a sign Aristotle (as per SMSCC Generals). There will be variable main road determinants\, but no more than four at any time (often only two). In fact\, you can run Highway Robbery using the SMSCC General Instructions with a short addendum instead of the RRRs if you want to. These are mostly the same generals we used on previous Highway Robberies. Jeanne English\, Rallymaster\, expects most contestants to do most legs correctly.

SUMMARY:TX: San Antonio 2023 Historic Tour RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:San Antonio has had more battles fought within its city limits than any other town in North America. These battles occurred while San Antonio was under the jurisdiction of Spain\, the Republic of Mexico\, The Republic of Texas\, and the Confederate States of America\, not to mention the United States. This Road Rally will take you to the approximate location of each site. However\, the exact location of some of the sites is unknown\, and other sites were running battles that ranged over several miles. If you want a more detailed investigation of any site\, you are encouraged to revisit any site on your own and at your convenience—the oldest two sites date from 1813\, and the youngest one from the 1870s. \n\n\n\nThis is a non-speed social Road Rally whose route will be along city streets\, and speed bumps may be an issue for some cars. We will start on the west side of San Antonio\, proceed to the far south side\, and then complete our tour just north of downtown. It should take 90 minutes and two hours for this RoadRally as you learn about the history of San Antonio. Questions may be asked along the route\, but awards are not based on questions or a car’s finish position. This RoadRally is meant to be a fun learning event and a social outing where all participants will vote on awards at our final destination. \n\n\n\nOn the event day\, Saturday\, 12 August 2023\, participants will meet at the west side of the Walmart Superstore parking lot in San Antonio. Registration will be from 1:00 to 2:00\, with a safety briefing at 1:45. After the safety briefing\, cars will be released for the route which takes place on city streets. Our destination is The Longhorn Cafe at 1003 Tittiman Road in San Antonio.

SUMMARY:Cal Club First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Time for the August First Friday Niter!  Rallymaster Paul McGaffey has written a pure tour course using the Monte Carlo style timing. You will be given “Car Zero Times” at each Checkpoint. Just add your car number in minutes to the Car Zero Time to get your time to cross each Checkpoint. If you get there early\, you may stop or creep without penalty\, so long as you do it safely and out of traffic lanes. The course will take you through the magnificent driving roads of the Santa Monica Mountains and Finish at BJ’s Brewhouse\, 3955 Thousand Oaks Blvd\, Westlake Village. \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This month’s maximum penalty is 60 seconds (1 minute) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/. There is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks – your Official Time shows in the app!  \n\n\n\nAlso\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish\, download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app.  \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at MotorsportReg. This helps us figure out how many sets of instructions to print\, trophies\, etc.  If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person\, which opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm.

SUMMARY:OR: Northwest Classic Car Challenge
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, the NW Classic Car Challenge will have it’s 34th running over the August 3-6th weekend. The rally will hold close to its roots\, featuring a classic TSD (time-speed-distance) road rally complete with MRDs/TRAPS\, rigorous course following (using OR and ITIS instructions)\, and this year we have added a relaxed Tour rally. Both travel wonderful twisty backroads from Portland\, OR to Eugene\, Oregon\, over two days of driving. \n\n\n\nBut we have also made some changes to change with the times. First\, you no longer need an old car to participate. We ENCOURAGE new sports car owners to join! We have special recognition planned for new Alfa owners. But ANY suitable modern car can sign up. If you don’t want to drive that finicky Spider or MG\, you can bring out your Mustang\, BMW\, or… \n\n\n\nOur presenting sponsor\, Vintage Underground\, forged another change to encourage new and younger participants. The tour can now be a traditional “follow-the-leader” format or ON YOUR OWN with a simplified route book. And all tour participants can take some pictures along the way\, like their car going through one of the seven covered bridges or other landmarks along the route. If they post the photos to Instagram or FaceBook with the event hashtag #NWCCRALLY\, they receive a raffle ticket for items raffled during the Awards Brunch on Sunday. The goal is to encourage and engage tour participants and have something for them to look forward to on Sunday besides the People’s Choice “Concours and Coffee.” \n\n\n\nAlso added to Sunday is a classic\, 1960s-style gymkhana. There is no cost; teams can watch\, participate\, or both (see details below in the comprehensive schedule). As of April 25th\, we have 34 RALLY entries and eight TOUR entrants at the time of writing. We expect 50-60 cars in total. \n\n\n\nHere is the planned schedule for the 34th NW Classic Car Challenge. The committee has created an enjoyable and complete weekend with social aspects and events beyond just a RALLY or a TOUR. It is a true bucket list event! \n\n\n\n#NWCCRALLY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday Eve\, August 3rd\, 5–9:00 PM – SCRUTINEERING PARTY at Ron Tonkin Alfa Romeo in Beaverton. Come out and see the cars — everyone is welcome! \n\n\n\nFriday\, August 4th\, 8:00 AM – Ceremonial start of the NW Classic Car Challenge Rally and Tour from Ron Tonkin Alfa Romeo with a TV crew like Tony Martinez\, a Shriner as the starter\, and Scott Fisher has agreed to be the announcer. \n\n\n\n• SPECTATOR AREA along the route: Friends\, family\, and photographers cheer on the cars as they pass through a spectator point in the Portland/Tigard area. \n\n\n\n• Catered Lunch at the ZCBJ Hall in Scio\, OR. WiFi will be available for uploading Tour Challenge photos. \n\n\n\n• Day 1 ends at Valley River Inn\, Eugene ~4:30 PM\, with BEER sponsored in the parking lot \n\n\n\n• Evening Banquet – 6:30 PM with a slide show and KaHoots! Trivia Game \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, August 5th\, 8:00 AM  – NW Classic Car Challenge Rally and Tour departs \n\n\n\n• Catered lunch in Cottage Grove\, Oregon area\, featuring Salmon! \n\n\n\n• Day 2 ends at Valley River Inn\, with a rose\, presented to each car \n\n\n\n• Cars will be escorted to the BEER WASH area\, where contestants are handed a bucket/sponge and fresh towels\, along with a beer\, and they wash their car. Why clean the car after the days’ adventures? So that after the lovely social evening\, they’re ready for Sunday morning’s Concours and Coffee in the parking lot with the PEOPLE’s CHOICE voting. \n\n\n\n• Cocktail Hour follows the Beer Wash at 5:45 PM with a slide show \n\n\n\n• Banquet Dinner starts at 6:45 PM\, with the featured Speaker at 7:45 PM \n\n\n\nOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\n\n\n\nSunday Morning\, August 6th\, 7:00 AM – Concours and Coffee\, with voting until 9:00 AM. There is a hired Security Officer each evening to oversee the parking lot. \n\n\n\n• Awards Brunch\, 9:00 AM – Trophies presented to TSD Rallyists and draw raffle tickets for Tour Challenge contestants who gained tickets by doing well in the photography challenge. \n\n\n\n• 10:30 AM Special projected photo recognition for top Porsche on the Porsche Club stage\, for top NEW GUILIA\, and TOP PLACING 4C\, etc.\, and of course\, our CONCOURS winners are announced. \n\n\n\n• 11:15 AM – Adjourn for “FUNKHANA” in a nearby parking lot. Optional slow-speed driving event with challenges like STOPPING on a DIME\, TOSSING a ROD\, DRIVING A SLALOM in reverse\, hitting a blow-up clown while blindfolded\, and finally hitting a GIANT SOCCER BALL thru a goal. SUMMARY:PA: SCCA Heck's And Back Divisional RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:Heck’s and Back Roadrally is sponsored by the Philadelphia Region SCCA with the cooperation of Blue Mountain Region. The Heck’s and Back GTA RoadRally is a question-and-answer Divisional Rally that will traverse some scenic back roads in Berks County\, many of which will feature hex signs common in the area. Rallymasters Bruce Gezon and Clyde Heckler have designed a course that features some questions containing a few tricks (traps) to separate the scores.  \n\n\n\nWe offer two classes: Experienced (team members have run five or more rallies combined) and Novice.  There will be awards (hex sign themed) for first and second in Experienced\, and first through third for Novice entries.     \n\n\n\nOur route will cover approximately 70 miles\, and you will have 4 hours to complete it. The route is totally paved\, so there are no worries about dirt/rocks. \n\n\n\nAfter you register\, approximately two weeks before the event\, you will receive general instructions explaining the rules for the rally\, how to follow the course\, a glossary of terms included in the route instructions\, scoring\, etc.  General instructions will also eventually be available on this webpage.  \n\n\n\nStart:Saucony Creek Brewery Company + Gastropub in Kutztown\, PA.    \n\n\n\nSchedule of Events:10:30 am Registration opens at Saucony Creek Brewing Company + Gastropub.   \n\n\n\nPlease park in the parking lot to the left of the outdoor patio as you enter the parking lot (not in the front). Your registration packet will include the route instructions and publicity material for other upcoming events in the area. All participants must sign a liability release\, and non-members must fill out the Weekend and Trial Membership forms and Minor Waivers for anyone under 18.  You may only have two adults in the car.  A child under ten does not count against the adult limit.   \n\n\n\nYou may depart whenever you are ready and satisfied with your route instructions. If you would like to have breakfast\, the Airport Diner (15110 Kutztown Rd) is less than a mile away\, but allow extra time as they are typically very busy on Sunday mornings.        \n\n\n\nFinish: Saucony Creek Craft Brewing Company + Gastropub. They offer a variety of beers and foods that are crafted fresh with the highest quality care for ingredient selection and process.    \n\n\n\nQuestions about the event can be sent to the Co-Rallymaster Clyde Heckler via contact information below or call 609-923-6306. \n\n\n\nEvent Requirements\n\n\n\nThe cost is $35 per team if at least one person is an SCCA member\, and $50 per team if there are no SCCA members. The non-member fee includes a $ 15-weekend membership fee\, which includes a $15 coupon toward Annual Membership if redeemed within 60 days. \n\n\n\nCars must be in working order and be insured with an auto insurance policy with liability limits of not less than $20\,000 /$40\,000/$10\,000 (no exceptions). Each entrant must certify that the car entered is legally on the road and is either owned by the entrant or used by the entrant with the owner’s permission.  Any participant under 18 must have an SCCA Minor Waiver\, printed in color and signed by all parents/guardians. \n\n\n\nNon-members are encouraged to complete their Weekend Membership forms before the event and bring them along to expedite registration.
