SUMMARY:MI: Detroit Region Moonlight Monte RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:SCCA Detroit Region’s RoadRally program is rollin’ now! Next up on the Region’s road rally calendar\, following the upcoming Twilight Tour on April 17 (canceled\, due to Covid concerns\, April 12\, 2021)\, is the third of the Region’s eight scheduled 2021 rallies\, Moonlight Monte\, on June 5. Rallymaster Dan Harkcom will take you on roughly 200 miles of rallying over the back roads between West Branch and Houghton Lake – and there are many tasty roads to traverse in that area! Registration is open – click here to head over to MotorsportReg for additional event specifics and to register. \n\n\n\nSince most of Michigan’s most interesting and least-traveled rally roads are unpaved\, expect to run on Saturday and wash on Sunday. All of the roads used will be traversable at rally speeds in the average family car. Depending on weather conditions\, you can expect a combination of dust\, mud\, or washboard\, so prepare accordingly. \n\n\n\nMoonlight Monte will be an early afternoon through evening SCCA RoadRally event. Starting and ending in West Branch\, course following is straightforward with frequently mileaged instructions to keep you on course. A combination of speed changes\, transits\, and pauses will challenge the teams to arrive on time at the timing controls. \n\n\n\nMoonlight Monte will use the Richta app for timing and scoring. DESCRIPTION:The SCCA Milwaukee Region presents the Roads Scamper National Tour RoadRally\, on Sunday\, June 6\, 2021. Join your fellow RoadRally enthusiasts for this 180-mile time-speed-distance National Tour RoadRally in the beautiful Wisconsin countryside. You and your rally partner will enjoy a scenic rally adventure through the marvelous country roads north of Madison\, Wisconsin. \n\n\n\nThis rally will use the Richta GPS checkpoint app. Contestants will download the app to their smartphones in advance of the rally. During the rally\, this app will use the GPS signals and automatically record your arrival time at each checkpoint and then display your score to you!! No more waiting until the rally is over to find out how you did. A bonus feature of this Richta GPS checkpoint system is that we can provide you with many more checkpoints and more challenging checkpoint locations. Expect at least 100 checkpoints in this 180-mile rally. Contestants will need a smartphone to run this event. If you’re planning to run another rally app during the event\, you’ll need to do that on a separate device. The Richta GPS checkpoint app needs to be the only app running on your phone during the rally; you can download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. \n\n\n\nThis is a tour-type rally\, so there are no tricks or traps. Pre-registration is required\, and you can click here to check out the details at Hagerty MotorsportReg! Rallymaster Jim Crittenden encourages you to register straight-away\, as there is a twenty-five car limit on this rally\, and it is expected to sell out!  \n\n\n\nThere is also a Milwaukee Region event on Saturday\, June 5th\, called the Roads Scholar National Course. \n\n\n\nHeadquarters Hotel:  Should you decide to come in the evening before\, the Country Inn and Suites\, has a block of rooms (with two queen beds) reserved for contestants at a special rate of $79/night plus tax\, but only until May 13th. DESCRIPTION:The First Friday Niter Series has a long history with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA California Sports Car Club. Should you run the FFNs regularly\, this becomes an excellent reason to join the SCCA and other discounts available from National. \n\n\n\nWe are still practicing COVID-19 restrictions – primarily wearing masks and social distancing. We continue to use the Richta Competitor GPS app for checkpoints\, so no manned checkpoints or control cards to pass in and out of the car; there’s a new version\, 1.20\, that should automatically update on your phone when you log in. Each checkpoint sign will be clearly shown in the instructions\, so no guesswork will be needed.

SUMMARY:WI: United States Road Rally Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The 2021 United States Road Rally Challenge\, sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America over the July 30 – August 1st weekend\, will consist of one National Course Rally followed by two National Tour Rallies. All events will follow the 2021 RRR’s for Championship rallies. At this time it’s hard to say anything about the gatherings before and after the rally. There are no known COVID rules at the Hotel or other gathering points. \n\n\n\nThe weekend kicks off with a reception on Thursday evening at the host hotel. Clarence Westberg will be the Rallymaster for the Sparta Trails National Tour on Saturday\, and Mike Thompson will be the Rallymaster for the Sturculinus Creek National Course on Friday and the Badger Bash National Tour on Sunday. Three National Rallies in three days! \n\n\n\nAll rallies will begin at the Best Western Plus Sparta Trail Lodge (608-269-2664). The block on rooms expires on June 30. The magic words for called-in reservations are United States Road Rally Challenge\, Rally\, or Road Rally. The rate is $119 per night. \n\n\n\nRegistration closes July 25th\, 11:59PM.

SUMMARY:CA: San Diego Region Coast to Coast Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Coast to Coast Road Rally\, by Rallymaster Ric Senior\, will be run Saturday\, August 21st\, 2021\, departing in the morning and finishing before noon. A novice/beginner meeting will be shared before the event. The drivers’ meeting will be held online Friday night before the event at 6:00 PM via Zoom. The Coast to Coast Road Rally is expected to cover about 60 miles\, mostly on fun-to-drive country roads following legal limits. The rally will take approximately 2.5 hours. \n\n\n\nWe’ll start at La Costa Avenue Park & Ride before heading to the coast\, then into the twisty back roads of San Diego County and finishing in Solano Beach. The entry fee is $25 per car. The Driver must be an SCCA Member. Note that weekend memberships are available during registration for $15 (and these can be used as credit towards a full membership). \n\n\n\nYou will need paper and a pencil/pen\, a watch or clock with a second hand; a stopwatch and a clipboard will be helpful. A valid driver’s license and proof of current liability insurance are required. Your vehicle must meet basic safety standards (e.g.\, lights\, brakes\, windshield wipers\, and horn must work). \n\n\n\nThe object of a navigational rally is to follow the rally course at the assigned (legal) speeds and arrive at each checkpoint on time\, not early\, not late. Your score on each leg of the rally is based on how early or late you arrive at each checkpoint.

SUMMARY:WI: Milwaukee Region Mini Monte Regional Tour
DESCRIPTION:Milwaukee Region SCCA will be presenting a Monte Carlo-style Rallye on August 21\, 2021. The Rallye will be about 5 hours in length and will explore the back roads\, mostly in Sheboygan County. We will be visiting the northern sections of the Kettle Moraine Forest and passing Road America\, and driving a portion of the old Elkhart Lake Street Race Course. As usual\, roads are twisty\, speeds brisk\, and the scenery spectacular. \n\n\n\nA Monte Carlo-style Rallye is a bit different and will present new challenges. DESCRIPTION:Cascade Sports Car Club’s 56th Mountains to the Sea Road Rally offers an easy-to-follow scenic drive on paved\, less-traveled roads starting in northwest Portland and ending at Rockaway Beach.  \n\n\n\nEntry requires a street-legal vehicle\, a licensed and insured driver\, a navigator\, and a smart device (e.g.\, cell phone or tablet) running the Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints app (the app is free). \n\n\n\nAll events in the 2021 rally season are conducted in compliance with the Cascade Geargrinders Coronavirus Message. \n\n\n\nThe first car starts at 10:01 a.m. and should finish about 5 p.m. Weather and COVID permitting\, we hope to have a beach fire. Bring your beach blanket and a piece of firewood if you are inclined. Optional dinner boxes can be ordered ahead. SUMMARY:IN: Indianapolis Region Hoosier Byways: The Bridges of Putnam County
DESCRIPTION:The Bridges of Putnam County is a Divisional Tour Rally that is part of the SCCA Great Lakes Divisional Championship. It is a challenging Tour rally using GPS checkpoints. The route includes many well-groomed\, yet curvy\, gravel roads and crosses several covered bridges in Putnam County. Although designed to be challenging for Divisional competitors\, the rally can be run by anyone who would like a full afternoon of road rallying with some spectacular scenery. The route is well defined and the challenge is to stay on time. \n\n\n\nThe route includes a tire warm-up followed by a 12+ miles odometer check that contains paved and gravel roads. There is no headquarter hotel for this event. Should you would like overnight accommodations\, the rally committee suggests using a hotel near State Rd. 267 and I-70 (exit 66). DESCRIPTION:Cascade Passes Tour\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNor’Wester Rally is a Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) perfect time\, touring rally. Entrants are given route instructions containing specific\, clear directions to follow\, with speeds at or below the legal limit in all cases. Cars are assigned a specific time to start each section in the route instructions\, at one-minute intervals.  \n\n\n\nNOTE: We\, at RReNews\, are awaiting details on Registration and starting location from the organizers. To field the event on our calendar\, the address for starting is simply the Chamber for Kirkland. We will amend when information is provided! \n\n\n\nNor’Wester is a ‘closed checkpoint’ format\, where the cars do not stop at checkpoints\, but rather the checkpoints are sometimes hidden\, with timing to a specific landmark. This kind of rally is ‘On Time\, All the Time’. Penalty points are issued for passing a checkpoint early or late. Speeding is a sure way to lose the rally\, as early points are just as bad as late points. The goal is to pass all checkpoints exactly at the correct second\, netting zero points. The car with the least number of points wins.  \n\n\n\nThis event is a pure course-following rally; there are no tricks or traps. Precision timing is the main criterion. Traveling remote areas with spectacular scenery is a bonus.

The Northern New Jersey Region’s New Jersey Monte\, a National Course Rally – Map Rally\, will begin from that locale.  \n\n\n\nOrson Wells Martians landed in Grover Mills – the North by Northwest Rally will take you by this landmark!\n\n\n\nOctober 9 – North by Northwest is an all-day 180+ mile straight forward Time-Speed-Distance Rally. Hosted by SJR is the first event of a New Jersey National Weekend. The route will start near Atlantic City and travel north by northwest ending in Clinton\, NJ.  \n\n\n\nThe route will have over 120 timed control locations. It will include some sand trails in the New Jersey Pine Barrens\, home of the New Jersey Devil\, pass by Grover Mills where Martians first landed in Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds 1938 radio drama\, and traverse the rolling county side of central New Jersey with its many one-lane bridges and scenic farmlands.  \n\n\n\nAll control locations will be listed in the route instructions. Including the control locations in the route instructions bring a special challenge and an increased focus to stay “on-time all the time” to get good scores on the event. Rallymaster Jim Wakemen and Event Chair Clyde Heckler are well known on the SCCA National Series circuit and have many National Championships to their names. \n\n\n\nOctober 10 – New Jersey Monte is an all-day 160+ mile Time-Speed-Distance Map Rally. This second event of the New Jersey National Weekend will start in Clinton\, NJ\, and end in Long Valley\, NJ. The route will be based on the ‘historic’ New Jersey ‘Esso’ map. All Timing Controls will be listed on the map with associated Car Zero ‘Key Time’ and Official Mileage. All you have to do is stay on course by following the route highlighted on the map and get to each of the Timed Controls ‘on time.’ How hard can it be? \n\n\n\nSet your own speeds between each control\, just as long are you arrive ‘on time’ at each of the twenty timed checkpoints\, but remember to stay on course per the route listed on the map to avoid additional penalties associated with hidden route controls. The New Jersey Monte is in honor of NNJR’s member Dave Panas who was one of the original organizers of the NJ Monte in the early 60s. The route will travel the rural roads of the New Jersey Highlands and skirt Blairstown\, home of Jason Voorhees\, the main character of the 1980 cult classic horror film Friday the 13th. The ~150 mile route will wind through the hills of Ohio’s Tuscarawas\, Harrison and Belmont counties. Foliage should be at near peak coloration. \n\n\n\nThe Johnny Appleseed name is a legacy from a National rally that was hosted by Neohio Region\, SCCA in the 1950’s and 1960’s\, and resurrected in the early 1990’s. Competitors can expect an absolutely straightforward\, gimmick-free Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) road rally\, with emphasis on precise timing at well-placed controls. Columnar ‘tulip’-style route instructions will be used. \n\n\n\nThe rally will count toward both the SCCA Great Lakes Division (GLD) Rally Championship and the SCCA National Touring Rally (NTR) Championship (Divisional Rally). \n\n\n\nNOTE: All teams must enter here. NO ‘WALK-IN’ ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF THE RALLY!\n\n\n\nSCCA members are urged to apply for an annual waiver so that they can bypass the signing of a paper waiver at each SCCA event. \n\n\n\nIf either team member is a minor\, please contact the organizers as soon as possible to obtain an SCCA minor waiver form. The Kettle Moraine is a ‘Tour’ type rally\, and there are no traps or tricks – drive\, enjoy the great roads and marvelous scenery and try to arrive at each checkpoint at precisely the right time. It is designed especially for people with little or no rally experience. \n\n\n\nCheckpoints will be set up along the way to monitor how well you are following the assigned average speeds.  \n\n\n\nIMPORTANT: This rally uses automatic scoring and GPS checkpoints. DESCRIPTION:A short message from Rallymaster Extraordinaire Frank Beyer (aka Dr. Devio) about the 2021 Route of All Evil Weekend — this year\, there will be two Regional Route(s) of All Evil: All in Good Time on Saturday\, October 30th and Deceptive Bends on Sunday\, October 31st. You can run one or both! \n\n\n\nExpect a couple of things to be missing from my turn as a Rallymaster for the Finger Lakes Region: darkness and snow (probably). The fields are limited to 30 cars each. Early registration is now open to cars with at least one full-time SCCA member. \n\n\n\nBoth courses feature smooth paved and unpaved roads; no car-breakers. Saturday’s route is about 190 miles long and Sunday’s about 175 miles. Speeds will be appropriately brisk for the roads and conditions. The Route and General Instructions are straightforward\, but you’ll need to stay alert and be ready to react to the situations presented. I expect you’ll rack up a bunch of zeros but you’ll work for them. Timing will be done with the Competitor – Richta GPS Checkpoints\, using your smartphone in your car. \n\n\n\nCLASSES for the 2021 Route of All Evil:  \n\n\n\n(E)quipped – no restriction on equipment. DESCRIPTION:The First Friday Niter Series has a long history with the Santa Monica Sports Car Club\, a Chapter of the SCCA California Sports Car Club.  \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 7 PM\, with a Beginner/Richta App meeting at 740 PM. The first car is out at 801 PM. The entry is $25\, with a $10 discount if either the Driver or Navigator is an SCCA Member.
