SUMMARY:MN: Land O' Lakes Region Flamethrower Divisional RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The Flamethrower Rally is a Regularity Rally run in MN part of the Driftless area. The course traverses the Valleys flowing into the Mississippi River\, taking advantage of the elevation changes and natural twisty roads in the valleys.  \n\n\n\nOnly two people are allowed in the car. If your navigator is a minor a special release is required.  \n\n\n\nNo special equipment is required. A smart phone with built in GPS will make it a lot easier and more fun. A free app is available from your favorite app store. The app not only provides the timing but also provides a digital roadbook similar to the one used at Dakar in 2021 and 2022. The app also does all calculations for you so that you always know if you are on time.  \n\n\n\nFor those without a smartphone or their own navigation systems we have SmartControl devices to do the timing. \n\n\n\nWe suggest you use the Rabbit Rally app to run this event. It’s a Rally Computer app that does all the work for you to stay on time. \n\n\n\nRabbit Rally Info \n\n\n\nEntry fee is $40/car\, and another $15 for Weekend Membership if you are not an SCCA Member.In-person sign-in starts at 2:00PM\, First car out at 3:31PMLength: 5 hours\, 137 miles \n\n\n\nIt is recommended that you have Winter rated tires. Most all season tires are not. We suggest you also bring standard winter travel items such as a blanket\, boots\, warm weather gear\, etc in case you go off the road.  \n\n\n\nOrganization \n\n\n\nLand Of Lakes region\, Sports Car Club of America. \n\n\n\nChairmanClarence WestbergRallymasterTyler LinnerSafetyEric LinnerTA LiaisonKate WestbergPre-CheckClarence WestbergRegistrarKate Westberg\n\n\n\nEvent Description \n\n\n\nThe rally follows the international regularity format. Speed shall have no impact whatsoever on the classification. Regularity Zones (RZs) shall be set up where participants have to follow the established average speed and stay close to the ideal time throughout the route. Time penalties shall be handed down as points. The winner shall be the competitor with the fewest points at the end of the rally. The details of the itinerary and the various controls shall be set out in the time card.  \n\n\n\nAll registration material will be either online or emailed to you so you can fill out before arrival. SUMMARY:CA: SCCA Cal Club First Friday Niter Social RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:On March 3\, 2023\, grab your favorite musketeer and join the Santa Monica Sports Car Club and guest Rallymaster Joe Batwinis for the 3rd First Friday Niter of the year. There will be three legs with three stages per leg on this Tour rally of the Sierra Pelona Ridge. There are no traps this month and plenty of free zones to enjoy some of the region’s best driving roads. Just ensure you’re on time outside those free zones because the checkpoints are unmarked – like the pre-app days.  \n\n\n\nOn that note\, this rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This month’s maximum penalty is 60 seconds (1 minute) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/; there is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks as your Official Time shows in the app!  \n\n\n\nAlso\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish\, download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app. \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at msreg.com/FFN032023. This helps us figure out how many sets of instructions to print\, trophies\, etc. If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start in the rear lot of the Bank of America. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm. \n\n\n\nThe rally will finish at IHOP\, 1225 Truman St.\, San Fernando\, CA 91340. This is close to the start\, so it’s a short drive back in case you and your Navigator meet at the start location. \n\n\n\nIs your usual rally partner not available for this FFN? Let Jeanne know\, and she will attempt to match you up with another competitor seeking a partner to run with.  Contact Jeanne at ean21@juno.com.

SUMMARY:MN: Minnesota Valley Winter Rally
DESCRIPTION:The course for this SCCA Land o’ Lakes Region is mostly unpaved roads traversing the Minnesota River Valley. By late March the roads could be dry\, mud\, snow or any combination. Be prepared. \n\n\n\nSunset at 7:32 PM so part of the Minnesota Valley Winter Rally will be at night but mostly daylight. External night lighting will not be required but it would’t hurt on older cars\, interior lights will be very useful.  \n\n\n\nWe advise bringing winter gear (boots\, hat\, gloves\, etc) and a blanket in case you have car trouble. A small shovel or two would be a good idea if it is still snowy. \n\n\n\nPhilosophy  \n\n\n\nThis event will not have nearly as many timing points (TP) as others we have done. We have located the TP at traditional locations used when we had to have humans work. We have thrown in a few extra at places we always wanted to put one as well. The first section we are calling the prairie stage. It’s one long stage of about 25 miles with no links. The terrain is rather flat with the interest coming via many 90 degree turns followed by a TP. From there we head down to the Minnesota River starting with the famous Salisbury Hill control before ending the first part in Henderson where you can exchange stories at the Shell station. \n\n\n\nFrom there we follow the traditional course through the tributary valleys. After a brief run up the Minnesota River Scenic Byway before one last stage before ending at Sticks. \n\n\n\nMVWR uses the MiRally GPS timing and scoring system. The advantage being contestants get to use the Rabbit Rally Digital Roadbook and rally computer on their smartphone and or tablet. You should enter the event in class G as E\, L & S are legacy classes for people using old equipment and timkeeping methods. \n\n\n\nWe use the Telegram app of group communications. Telegram invite link \n\n\n\nSchedule  \n\n\n\nSunday March 19: Roadbooks and specific regulations emailed.. \n\n\n\nSaturday March 25 \n\n\n\n3-5:15 PM Registration\, timecards\, SmartControl and newbie training at Stick’s Tavern \n\n\n\n5:15 PM Contestants Meeting\, We will go over any last minute information regarding the course and conditions. \n\n\n\n5:31 PM Car One departs. \n\n\n\n8:30 PM or sooner Car one arrives at the end point.  \n\n\n\nEvent requirements\n\n\n\nYou are responsible for insuring the following are in order:Headlights (high and low beams) and parking lightsTaillights and brake lightsHorn\, windshield wipers and directional signalsRear-view mirrorFoot brakes and parking brakeTires (inspect for condition of sidewalls as well as tread)Seat belts\, securely installed for the driver and navigatorSafety triangle (optional)First Aid Kit (optional)Tow Rope (optional)Fire Extinguisher (optional)

SUMMARY:CA: Cal Club First Friday Niter
DESCRIPTION:It’s April\, and we all know what that means for the First Friday Niter.  But this time\, the joke is on us – Larry Scholnick is giving is a Tour Rally! So unlike all those previous April FFNs that Larry has written\, there is no need to be afraid of whatever foolishness there might have been for this rally. It’s a tour!!  The odometer check heads out to Westlake Village\, where the challenge to stay on time begins. The rally includes Potrero Road\, a trip through Newbury Park\, then more Potrero Road to a visit to Cal State Channel Islands\, and we finish with a loop of Loop! It’s a fun drive\, so come join us on April 7! \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. The maximum penalty this month is 120 seconds (2 minutes) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/. There is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks to your Official Time shows in the app!  \n\n\n\nAlso\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish\, download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app also. \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at msreg.com/FFN042023.  This helps us with figuring out how many sets of instructions to print\, and trophies\, and other stuff.  If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start at the Bank of America rear lot. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm. \n\n\n\nThe rally will finish at Pizza Man Dan’s\, 2390 Las Posas Road\, Camarillo (a new Pizza Man Dan’s for us). \n\n\n\nIs your usual rally partner not available for this FFN?  Let Jeanne know and she will attempt to match you up with another single.  Contact Jeanne at ean21@juno.com.

SUMMARY:IL: St. Louis Region Tulips by Night
DESCRIPTION:A St. Louis Region\, SCCA\, Social Road Rally in conjunction with the St. Louis/Southern Illinois Gateway Sprints MiDiv Majors Weekend\, at World Wide Technology Raceway. \n\n\n\n\n\nDescription: Tulips by Night 2023 is an evening Monte-Carlo-style road rally/tour of about 50 miles. We have designed this event with the new/occasional rally team in mind. Expect paved county roads\, easy-to-follow tulip diagrams for route instructions\, and checkpoint locations identified both by official mileages and official arrival times. Timing will be in minutes and seconds\, with checkpoint arrival times calculated to whole minutes. For teams new to rallying\, a brief school before the event will explain how to run the event and answer questions a team might have. \n\n\n\nStart: World Wide Technology Raceway\, Madison\, IL. \n\n\n\nFinish: The Lucky Rooster Pub & Eatery\, 101 W. Main St.\, St. Jacob\, IL 62281. \n\n\n\nSize of the field: We are limiting the field to 15 teams. \n\n\n\nRegistration: Pre-event Registration only here at Motorsportreg. Entries on a first-come basis. You will find much more information about the event\, the Richta GPS Competitor App\, and you can reach out to Rallymaster Jim Heine\, too! \n\n\n\nMay 5 check-in and signing of waivers\, etc.: 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at World Wide Technology Raceway. \n\n\n\nRally school Q&A : 6:15 PM and the Safety meeting: 6:45 PM and First car departs the start: 7:01 p.m. \n\n\n\nFirst car arrived at finish: Approximately 9 p.m. (We will have a full moon\, the Flower Moon\, May 5\, with sunset at 7:56 p.m. With Mother Nature’s cooperation\, it should be a perfect occasion for an evening drive. The Lucky Rooster\, which is staying open just for us\, has a lovely patio also.) \n\n\n\nWhat you need: a car\, a Driver & Navigator\, a smartphone or tablet for the Richta GPS Competitor App\, a clipboard & calculator\, pencils & paper\, and a flashlight or map light to read route instructions after sundown—and an inclination to take an evening drive. \n\n\n\nWhat you don’t need: Special rally lights on your vehicle. (Your OEM headlights should do just fine.) \n\n\n\nEntry fee: $20.00 per team for SCCA Members\, $35.00 per team for Non-members. \n\n\n\nOther really good things to know–timing and scoring: Tulips by Night 2023 is a TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) event at which you will be timed at several locations along the rally route. We will use the Richta Rally GPS Checkpoint System for timing and scoring. To compete\, each participating team will need a smartphone or tablet with active data cellular service (no airplane mode and no wi-fi only devices!) with the Richta Competitor App installed. The app will report your arrival time and leg score to your cellphone or tablet moments after you pass each GPS checkpoint location. For more information about the Richta GPS system visit https://richtarally.com. Also\, the SCCA Detroit Region’s rally page has an excellent summary of the Richta system\, especially its Competitor App\, which you will use. Visit http://drscca.org/rally/using-the-richta-competitor-app. Visiting it is worth your time. \n\n\n\nAbout the St. Louis Region\, SCCA: The SCCA’s St. Louis Region\, with some 600 members\, offers Road Racing\, Performance Driving Experience (PDE)\, RallyCross\, RoadRally\, Solo (autocross)\, and Street Survival School programs to educate and provide safe environments for individuals to enjoy their street-legal (daily driver) cars and purpose-built racecars. The region is home to more than 80 national champions and has been recognized three times by the Sports Car Club of America as the Region of the Year in its member category. In 2023\, the region will host an “SCCA Majors” road-racing weekend and multiple Solo and RallyCross regional events. To learn more about the St. Louis Region\, visit www.stlscca.org. \n\n\n\nEvent requirements\n\n\n\nThe standard SCCA rules regarding road-rally registration will be observed (e.g.\, proof of valid drivers license and current auto insurance\, vehicle inspection [self-inspection by the rally team]\, signing of SCCA waiver/release forms\, including confirmation of valid SCCA Annual Minor Waivers for Minors). \n\n\n\nWaivers: All participants will be required to read and sign the standard SCCA waiver before being allowed to participate in this event. The signing of the SCCA’s “Release and Waiver of Liability\, Assumption of Risk and Indemnity Agreement” is a pre-condition to participating in any SCCA event. SUMMARY:CA: SCCA Cal Club First Friday Niter
DESCRIPTION:This Cinco de Mayo\, the Santa Monica Sports Car Club will be running the rally initially scheduled for March 3rd\, yet was postponed due to weather-related road closures. But you shouldn’t let puns go to waste\, so pretend it’s 3/3/2023\, grab your favorite Musketeer\, and join us for what was supposed to be the 3rd First Friday Niter of the year.  \n\n\n\nThere will be three legs with three stages per leg on this Tour rally of the Sierra Pelona Ridge. There are no traps this month\, and plenty of three\, er\, free zones to enjoy some of the best driving roads the region has to offer. Just make sure you’re on time outside those free zones because the checkpoints are unmarked – kind of like the pre-app days.  \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This month’s maximum penalty is 60 seconds (1 minute) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/. There is no need for additional timing equipment or clocks to your Official Time shows in the app!  \n\n\n\nAlso\, if you want to see all the scores at the Finish\, download the FREE Richta Scoreboard app. \n\n\n\nPlease try to register online at MotorsportReg.com. This helps us determine how many Route Instructions to print\, trophies\, etc. If that doesn’t work for you\, you can still register in person at the start. We start at the Bank of America rear lot. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm. \n\n\n\nThe rally will finish at IHOP\, 1225 Truman St.\, San Fernando\, CA 91340.  This is close to the start\, so it’s a short drive back in case Drivers and Navigators meet at the start location. \n\n\n\nIs your usual rally partner not available for this FFN?  Let Jeanne know; she will attempt to match you up with another rallyist.  Contact Jeanne at ean21@juno.com.

SUMMARY:WI: 11th Annual Badger Burrow Divisional Tour Rallye
DESCRIPTION:The Milwaukee Region SCCA invites you to come run the 11th Annual Badger Burrow Tour Rallye. The event is a brisk run through Wisconsin’s driftless and moraine region\, mainly in Green County. The glaciers skipped this area during the last ice age\, leaving behind a terrain filled with valleys and ridges. The course takes full advantage of the region. Expect many curves\, ups and downs\, and paved roads that are seldom straight. Many say these are among the best sports car roads in the country. \n\n\n\nWe will be using the Richta GPS Checkpoints automatic timing and scoring system. Contestants are expected to provide an Android or Apple smartphone capable of running this app. The app times you into the hidden controls and automatically provides you with a running score. Expect more than 50 timed controls over the approximately 120-mile course. Contestants can relax and tell rally tales during the two breaks in the 5-hour event. We hope to see you there. \n\n\n\nStart Location: Panera Bread \n\n\n\nFinish Location: The Thirsty Goat 3040 Cahill Main\, Fitchburg\, Wisconsin 53711  \n\n\n\nSchedule —Check-in opens: 9:00 AM and the First Car Off: 11:01 AMFirst Car Finished: Approx 4:15 PMCost: $40.00/car\, a minimum of 2 people per car is required.(+$15 SCCA Weekend Membership unless a least one person is an SCCA Member) \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required for this event at www.msreg.com/bbRallye23 F \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Rallymaster Fred Rosevear.

SUMMARY:OH: NE Ohio Vertigo RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:The SCCA NEOhio Region invites you to enter the 2023 Vertigo Rally. The ±180-mile route will wind through the hills of Ohio’s Stark\, Carroll\, Columbiana\, and Jefferson Counties\, utilizing many of the same roads as an old rally of the same name. \n\n\n\nCompetitors can expect an absolutely straightforward\, gimmick-free\, Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) road rally with emphasis on precise timing at well-placed controls. Route Instructions will include Official Mileages for all action points. \n\n\n\nThe Vertigo Rally will count toward the SCCA Great Lakes Division Rally Championship and the SCCA National Touring Championship. \n\n\n\nStart Location:  Bob Evans Restaurant\, 5375 Dressler Rd.\, North Canton\, Ohio  44720 (Latitude N41.85920˚\, Longitude W080.64255˚). \n\n\n\nTentative Schedule (all times EDT): \n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 6\, 2023: 23:59 – Early entry cutoff \n\n\n\nWednesday\, May 10\, 2023: 18:00 – Registration closes. General Instructions and Richta password distributed via email. \n\n\n\nThursday\, May 11\, 2023: 20:00 – Competitor briefing / Novice Q & A session (via Zoom) \n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 13\, 2023: \n\n\n\n     09:30-10:40 – On-site registration \n\n\n\n     11:01 – Car #1 starts rally. \n\n\n\n      17:30 (approx) – Car #1 finishes. \n\n\n\nCompetition Classes: \n\n\n\n     E – Equipment unrestricted. \n\n\n\n     L – Odometer unrestricted. Calculating device is restricted only in that it may not be integrated with odometer. \n\n\n\n     G – GPS–derived odometer only and any calculating device. \n\n\n\n     S – Stock odometer only. Calculating device is restricted only in that it may not be integrated with odometer. \n\n\n\n     Novice – Class S entry in which neither team member has previously entered more than 5 TSD rallies. \n\n\n\nEntry Fees: \n\n\n\n     SCCA Members (Driver and/or Navigator have an annual membership): $45.00/car before the early entry cutoff\, $55.00 after that. \n\n\n\n     Others: Add $20.00 to the above (Member) fees (to purchase the mandated SCCA Weekend/Trial memberships for both team members). Individuals that purchase a Weekend Membership are eligible for a $15.00 credit toward an annual SCCA membership for 60 days following the rally.  \n\n\n\nNOTE: All teams must pre-register! Click here for MotorsportReg\, where you’ll find more information about the Vertigo Rally and get your team registered. There will be no walk-in entries on the day of the rally. SCCA Members are urged to apply for an Annual Waiver to bypass the signing of the paper waivers at each SCCA event. Should either of your team be a Minor (under 18 years of age)\, don’t hesitate to contact Rallymaster Ron Johnstonbaugh to obtain an SCCA Minor Waiver form to be properly executed before the rally by the Minor’s parents/guardian. \n\n\n\nThis rally will be timed with the Richta GPS Competitor automated checkpoint system. Each team must carry a “smart” phone or tablet (Android or iOS) running the current version of the Richta GPS Competitor “app.” Before the rally\, all the checkpoint information (Latitude/Longitude coordinates and target arrival times) will be uploaded to the “cloud.” Teams will receive a password allowing them to download this information for their entry. Competitors will NOT be able to view this information in advance. Upon arrival at each checkpoint\, a team’s device will sound an alert\, displaying the team’s recorded arrival time\, the score for that control\, and cumulative score. The device may also display leg “critique” information provided by the Rallymaster Ron Johnstonbaugh. \n\n\n\nSome helpful Richta user information can be found on the Detroit Region\, SCCA website: http://drscca.org/rally/using-the-richta-competitor-app/ \n\n\n\nTeams are encouraged to register a second (backup) phone or tablet under a “phantom” car number 100 greater than their assigned car number (Car #1/101\, Car #2/102\, etc.). The second device will serve as an arrival time “insurance policy” and help organizers better understand the relative timing behavior of various platforms. It will not be used for scoring unless there is a failure of the primary device.

SUMMARY:VT: Buffum's Summer Challenge Rally
DESCRIPTION:The SCCA New England Region’s Summer Challenge Rally will be on Saturday\, May 20th\, out of Randolph\, VT Distance of ~170mi. From Rallymaster John Buffum\, “Not a “trap rally” per se\, but you will have to think on occasion.” Extensive rally knowledge not required. \n\n\n\nAnd from the website\, where you can find more information about this event: \n\n\n\nMar 13\, 2023: I went out today to start the first survey. I plan routes at home using county type maps and then see how they really look when I drive around; usually 3 to 4 times over the course. \n\n\n\nI have an idea of the ‘difficult instructions’ that I might want to use. It’s actually finding spots on the course to use them. This time you’ll be pleased (or not) to know I found some. ???? \n\n\n\nMar 9\, 2023: Yes\, we will do a Summer Challenge Rally on May 20 starting at Exit 4 of I-89 in Randolph\, Vermont. More info here as time goes on.

SUMMARY:CA: First Friday Niter Social Road Rally
DESCRIPTION:Stay tuned for updates… \n\n\n\nThis rally uses the Richta GPS Competitor app for timing and scoring\, with timing in seconds. This month’s maximum penalty is 120 seconds (2 minutes) per checkpoint. The app is FREE and easy to use on any GPS-enabled smartphone. Go to the App Store or Google Play Store\, or https://richtarally.com/. In-person registration opens at 7:00 pm\, with the first car out at 8:01 pm; there is a beginner/Richta meeting at 7:40 pm. \n\n\n\nThe rally will finish at an area restaurant. \n\n\n\nIs your usual rally partner not available for this FFN?  Let Jeanne know; she will attempt to match you up with another rallyist.
