SUMMARY:IL: Return of the G.O.A.T.S. Tour
DESCRIPTION:A number of years ago the Chicago Region SCCA held a tour-type rally to LaCrosse Wisconsin. Several of the entrants had their private radios with them to communicate with each other as we traversed the tour route. Conversation over the radios was minimal\, then suddenly the silence was broken! A voice came across the airways shouting “goats\, goats\, goats\,” and then it went silent. What we all found out later that day is that a small heard of goats were on the road just past a curve. Apparently the noise from the car and its driver yelling as loud as possible on the radio scared the goats away because no one else observed this obstacle.   \n\n\n\nNow\, we can’t promise you that same level of excitement\, nor do we want you to experience it for yourself on this Chicago Region SCCA Tour.  However\, if you join us this coming Saturday\, May 15\, 2021 the Chicago Region and its G.O.A.T.S. (Get Out and Tour Series) backroads tour series will provide you with an enjoyable day of driving\, using great Wisconsin backroads providing scenic views and plenty of turns and elevation changes. The drive will take approximately 2.5 hours to complete ending in Paoli\, Wisconsin\, where there will be options for lunch and some socializing. Join us\, won’t you\, for The Return of the G.O.A.T.S. \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday May 15\, 2021 \n\n\n\nRegistration:  Pre-event registration is required. Registration on opens April 12\, 2021. click on the link to MotorsportReg\, the entry deadline is Saturday May 8\, 2021.  \n\n\n\nEntry Fee per car: $14.00 SCCA Members\, $30.00 Non-members (Weekend membership for all non-member drivers is required (fee is included in entry). DESCRIPTION:From the riverreporter.com\n\n\n\nBETHANY\, PA — Have some fun on Saturday\, May 15 by taking a scenic drive in the country. \n\n\n\nUse your deductive powers to figure out a series of clues to 10 sites around central Wayne County. Follow a 60-mile circular route on scenic highways and backroads through rural countryside\, from the village of Bethany to the Delaware River\, and back again. And it’s all to benefit Bethany Public Library. \n\n\n\nThis fundraising event\, called Cruising for Clues\, is a cross between a scavenger hunt and a different kind of road rally. The cost to enter is $30 per car. \n\n\n\nRSVPs are requested no later than the day before the event\, Friday\, May 14. To RSVP\, call the Library at 570-253-4349. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, May 15\, registration and payment open at 8:15 and close at 9:30 a.m. at the Library. The first two cars depart at 8:30 a.m.\, and after that\, cars leave in 10-minute intervals until all participants are on the road. Snacks and water will be provided. The day ends with a drawing to win a handful of prizes; attendance not required to win. \n\n\n\nThis is a COVID-safe event; participants will spend 95% of their time in their cars. DESCRIPTION:Do you know where the best Christmas decorations are in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago? We do! And we show them annually at The Christmas Light Tour Rallye\, a benefit for the USMC Toys for Tots. There will be two courses this year: West – Schaumburg\, and East – Lincolnwood. \n\n\n\nWhen? You can run this year’s The Christmas Light Tour Rallye at any time from the 12th of December until Christmas Day. Many teams will choose to run when there is a group on the night of December 12th\, yet you can participate when you please. \n\n\n\nSpectacular Houses! This event has\, in the past\, shown the most spectacular houses in the Schaumburg\, Hoffman Estates\, Elk Grove\, and Arlington Heights areas. We have more for you this year\, too\, as we have a second Tour you can run on the Eastern front to take in Lincolnwood\, Sauganash\, and Edgebrook.  \n\n\n\nSpecial Entry Fee for The Christmas Light Tour Rallye! Because it is a Charity Rally to benefit the USMC Toys for Tots\, the entry cost is $20 per vehicle. Should you have a toy to donate\, we will graciously accept it during the Saturday\, December 12th run. It is not necessary\, but it is fun to give a toy to the cause! \n\n\n\nCOVID-19 Precautions: The plan is to end at Garibaldi’s Italian Eatery\, yet of course\, because of the pandemic\, we don’t know what the endpoint situation will be. DESCRIPTION:A knock out\, crazy fun event where you solve puzzles that lead you to locations to look for a secret hidden word. No rally experience is necessary. Just an all out puzzle quest. \n\n\n\nThe Famous Puzzler Rallye has drawn over 1000 participants since its inception and has donated over $25\,000 to worthwhile charities. We will continue that tradition and handover 90% of all proceeds to worthwhile charitable organizations from this year’s event.  \n\n\n\nYou solve a puzzle\, then drive to the point on the map with the corresponding number of the puzzle answer. Once there\, you look for hidden clues. The one that gets the most puzzles and clues correct wins! A first time rallyists won one year\, so everyone has a legitimate chance. \n\n\n\nThe Pre-Registration entry fee is $25 and is encouraged\, so click here and Register today! Registration at Garibaldi’s Italian Eatery is at Noon on the day of the event and it will be $30. The cars start departing at 1:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:The annual Belleville Road Rally is this Saturday\, November 7th. \n\n\n\nSafety measures are being put in place to protect everyone from COVID. There will be NO large group gatherings. The only folks the majority of you will come in contact with are the members of your own car. Clues will only need to be picked up by one member of the car. Of all the stops\, only two are indoor and there will be no requirements to stay.  \n\n\n\nAs always\, if possible\, we ask that you patronize any business that you can – especially during these trying times. Additionally\, we request that masks be worn if you come in contact with anyone outside of your vehicle. As for game pieces – all cars will be provided a couple of pairs of latex gloves to use when grabbing each piece. \n\n\n\nSo pack your snacks\, charge your phones\, and meet in the Sugar River Lanes parking lot on Saturday morning. DESCRIPTION:The Oneonta Rotary Club has borrowed a clever fundraising idea that will keep people engaged in a fun activity this Sunday as Rotary holds their first Road Rally Scavenger Hunt Fundraiser on Sunday\, October 18th. \n\n\n\nCars must cross the finish line at the Quality Inn by 4:30 p.m. that day to be eligible for prizes. Teams will be judged on a combination of time\, mileage\, number of clues correctly answered and group photos. All teams are eligible for the Random Draw prize. Teams that dress in costume and/or decorate their cars are eligible to win a Spirit Award. Winners will be announced at the club meeting on October 22 and will be notified by phone. \n\n\n\nPrize winners receive a gas card or other automotive-themed gift certificate or item and the Oneonta Rotary Club will donate a mini-grant in your honor\, to the local community organization of your choice\, selected from the following: Catholic Charities Caring Connections\, Family Services Association\, Opportunities for Otsego Violence Intervention Program\, St. James Feeding Ministries which includes the Lord’s Table and the Loaves and Fishes Pantry\, St. Mary’s Church Food Pantry\, The Salvation Army Food Bank and Saturday’s Bread. Mini-grants range from $50 to $500. \n\n\n\nCost for the Road Rally is $25 for 18 years of age and older; $10 for 12-17; and free for under 12. Each team must consist of at least two adults. Participants will also have the option of purchasing a take home dinner from the Quality Inn which will donate 50% of sales to the Oneonta Rotary Club. \n\n\n\nProceeds from the event benefit the work of the Oneonta Rotary Club. DESCRIPTION:Everyone feels great about giving during the holidays\, but what happens when we get into the depths of winter after the New Year? It’s cold\, it’s dark\, but people are still hungry. The SCCA Philadelphia Region says let’s break out some cars and drive for a good cause. The 2019 Food Drive Road Rally is limited to 15 teams. We maxed out of the last rally so sign up early! We absolutely will not be able to exceed the limit of entrants. \n\n\n\nThis charity road rally will take you through some amazing back roads in Montgomery and Berks Counties to help you scratch that driving itch that builds up during the offseason. Your entry fee will be 10 donation-appropriate food items. \n\n\n\nThis year’s beneficiary will be the Bucks County Housing Group. \n\n\n\nFOOD BANK DONATIONS NEEDED: \n\n\n\n\nProtein: Canned meats such as tuna\, chicken\, and salmon. Beans\, canned or dried. Split peas and lentils. Peanut butter.\n\n\n\nGrain: Pasta\, rice\, or quinoa. Oatmeal or breakfast cereals (whole grain or low sugar).\n\n\n\nDairy: Shelf stable milk\, non-fat dried powder milk\, or dry-grated Parmesan cheese.\n\n\n\nPrepared meals: Pasta sauces\, stews\, canned pasta\, baked beans\, or Mac & Cheese. DESCRIPTION:The Cat 22 Monopoly© RoadRally\, sanctioned by the SCCA Steel Cities Region\, may be run any of the five days at your leisure or on the afternoon of the 30th if you wish to see some of the other cars in competition. All answers must be submitted for those running leisurely by email before 11:00 am on the 30th. \n\n\n\nCat 22 Monopoly© Rally will run on approximately 50 miles of paved roads in Westmoreland County. Scenery is superb as you travel on many roads most of you will have never seen before. Each team (minimum of two people) will use their Route Instructions to follow the course and may drive at whatever legal speeds are comfortable for them. Three hours is allotted for completing the rally but it may take less time. You will observe signs and landmarks along the right hand side of the route to proceed around the Monopoly© game board and total up your money. DESCRIPTION:Rallymaster Frank Beyer (aka Dr Devio)\, wanted to share 50 years of going out to the backroads of Upstate New York to enjoy his car\, the countryside and rally friends. The Absolute Zero rally was held May 19th to serve as a refresher on rallying before rally computers and GPS\, when everyone ran SOP (seat of the pants).\nThe SCCA Central New York Region will sanction the Route of All Evil (Easier Said Than Done)\, based out of Norwich\, NY. 270 miles of brisk driving\, appropriate to the roads. In the tradition of the Covered Bridge Rally\, we’re using the Vermont Winter Challenge format: Section A has written instructions with some unique route situations\, where you’ll be challenged\, amused and on-course. Section B starts with a highlighted map and finishes with tulips and mileages. Section C is all tulips and mileages. \nTSD experience will be helpful. Standard Equipment Classes with a separate award for best finish using GPS. \nThis event will be by pre-registration only. DESCRIPTION:Happy Halloween and Welcome to Ghouls GambolFor over 50 years ghosts\, goblins\, spooks\, spirits\, the dead\, the undead\, and even the mostly dead have returned to haunt the Cascade Sports Car Club’s Halloween road rally. In years past rally teams have had to navigate through cemetaries to find hidden clues\, reach into a screaming victim’s chest\, or worse. There have been haunted locations – like the legendary barn on Pumpkin Ridge or the slaughter house. The slaughter house…they say if you listen on a cold\, crisp October night you can still hear the screams. \nThis year the rally explores Washington County’s farmland and autumn colors. Roads are generally paved with less than 3 miles of unpaved roads. Speeds are reasonable\, a rally is not a race. The rally includes a stop at Lakeview Farms*.  Take the train through Halloween tunnels\, see what lurks beneath the surface when riding the sternwheeler over the lake\, explore the hay maze\, pick up a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch\, and visit the fall harvest gift shop. Lots to do and see at Lakeview Farms. But keep track of the time – you’re still on a road rally! \nThe rally will include both tricks and treats – standard CSCC rally rules apply. Teams will receive authentic 1953 Mobilgas maps and written instructions about which portions of the original 1100-mile GAMR route to follow. The next morning\, drivers will start their engines\, and navigators will guide them northward through Vermont to the Canadian border\, southward to New Hampshire\, and then back over the Vermont border to the finish line. Rally officials will throw the checkered flag on Sunday\, October 14\, 2018\, at Hemmings Motor News in Bennington\, Vermont. \n“This is an extraordinary event that will celebrate the way rallies used to be\,” said Rally Chairman Steve McKelvie. “Although it’s not a typical rally\, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) has sanctioned the event as a New England Regional Rally.” \nThe original GAMR\, described in April 1956 by Auto Age as “America’s longest\, toughest\, and coldest rallye\,” was the first U.S. rally listed by Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). It attracted local amateurs\, top drivers from American car clubs\, automotive factory teams\, and driving celebrities. \nThe Rootes Motors team in 1953 and 1954 entered top British driver Sheila van Damm. In 1954\, Formula 1 racer Stirling Moss competed. In 1956\, F1 Champion Juan Manuel Fangio served as the official starter\, throwing the green flag; and Monte Carlo Rally winner Maurice Gatsonides was a contender. Cars included both foreign and domestic\, such as the Buick Century\, Chevrolet Corvette\, Ford Crestliner\, English Ford Anglia\, Jaguar XK140\, Lincoln Capri\, MG TF and Magnette\, Porsche 356 Speedster\, Renault 4CV\, Saab 93\, Sunbeam Alpine\, and Triumph TR3. \nPrior to starting the Revival on October 12\, this year’s teams will receive route instructions in a written narrative and original 1953 Mobilgas Maps of Southern and Northern New England: identical to those of 60-odd years ago. Only roads appearing on these maps will be included. All teams will be restricted to equipment similar to that used in original GAMRs: \n• Rally odometers with up to 2 distance displays are permitted; rally computers providing average speed information are not allowed\, except for Halda Speedpilots.• Mechanical calculators and slide rules are permitted; electronic calculators are not.• Paper speed tables are permitted; electronic speed tables are not.• Clocks and stopwatches are permitted without restriction.• GPS mapping assists are not permitted. \nAt the 2018 finish line\, 1st\, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded in 3 classes: \n• Original: Cars that could have competed in 1950s GAMRs (model year 1957 or older)• Classic: Cars of model years 1958-1980• Modern: Cars of model years 1981 or newer \nGary Hamilton\, a land surveyor from Ipswich\, Massachusetts\, and Steve McKelvie\, a civil engineer from Franklin\, Massachusetts\, collaborated to recreate the 2018 GAMR Revival as authentically as possible. Original rules required entrants to use written instructions and 1953 Mobilgas Maps. \nArmed with the above information—as well as Google Earth© and Garmin Basecamp© software—Hamilton developed the route into a map. The original GAMR rallies were modeled on Europe’s grueling classic rallies\, and Hamilton and McKelvie continued with this approach: “Why go to Europe when you can do a European-style rally here?” asks McKelvie.

SUMMARY:PA: The Woods of Bucks Rallye
DESCRIPTION:Come out and enjoy some of the finest back-road driving the Philadelphia-area countryside has to offer. This evening road rally will flow through many of the hills\, valleys and riverside areas that Bucks County has hidden away.\nAlong this rally\, you will encounter gravel roads\, covered bridges\, abundant wildlife\, and many scenic routes. The roads are nearly as twisted as the rallymaster. This rally doesn’t include JUST driving–be prepared for puzzles and trivia. This is going to be one of the more challenging rallies we’ve hosted over the last few seasons and there will be no classes for this event. \nPlease note that this event will be held under Social Rally rules and will not count towards SCCA points. \nRegistration will open at approximately 5:00 PM followed by our mandatory driver meeting at about 5:45 PM (the exact times may be adjusted slightly as the route gets adjusted). \nThis rally will take a little over 2.5 hours to complete and will end up in the vicinity of Ottsville\, PA. \nThere are only 15 spots available for this event\, you want to register right away!
