We’ll start with a Driver’s Meeting at 950 AM\, and the Tour departs at 10 AM sharp!\n\nThe run is open to all. Please bring what you have\, but Old Spiders are the honored model\, so they will have the privilege of leading the tour.\n\nTo our Portland Area Participants — Meet at the Baldock Rest Area just south of Wilsonville on I-5 Southbound at approximately Milepost 281 at 9 AM. SUMMARY:CA: Ron Dunlop Memorial Charity Cruise
DESCRIPTION:The object of Ron Dunlop Memorial Charity Cruise is to enjoy driving sweeping\, beautiful\, challenging\, paved back roads at legal speeds while raising money for one of our favorite charities. All net proceeds (over $20 per car) will be donated to the Loma Linda University Medical Center\, the group that took such good care of Ron. There is no need for advanced math and no riddles\, compasses\, maps\, or gimmicks. We will rain or shine on May 18\, 2024. \n\n\n\nThis is an SCCA Cal Club-sanctioned Regional “Trek” format cruise event sponsored by the Into the Night Rally Team. It’s a non-competitive\, untimed driving event. You can run alone or with as many passengers as your vehicle has working seat belts. \n\n\n\nThe “Trek” format is a “follow-the-leader” type cruise event. There will be a lead car\, and we’ll all basically just stay in the queue behind them. Just follow the car in front of you and enjoy the roads. We will hand out a brief\, written course description at the Start to help you stay with the route if you decide to stop or whatever. You can stop anywhere for any reason: a break\, sightseeing\, photos\, etc. \n\n\n\nRegarding photos\, this event will go through the heart of the southern California wildflower area. With the rains we’ve been having\, it should be a super bloom and should still be going strong on rally day. We have found an especially scenic spot on the course in this area\, and we will have a professional photographer there to get some high-res pictures of you and your car surrounded by the wildflowers. We’ll then send each of you your photos after the event! \n\n\n\nThis event has been designed to be extremely EV-friendly. Charging stations are near both the Start and Finish. \n\n\n\nPlease register online at MotorsportsReg.com. Registration is $30 per car. All net proceeds (over $20 per car) will be donated to the Loma Linda University Medical Center\, the group that took such good care of Ron. (NOTE: If the “register now” button doesn’t work\, please reload this page and try again.) \n\n\n\nYou may still register in person at the Start. (Sorry\, but we cannot accept credit cards at Registration. Please use the MSR website to pay by credit card.)   \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 10 AM\, but feel free to come earlier. Dink’s Deli makes its bagels on-site daily\, and they are mighty good. There’s also a Starbucks and a Jamba Juice literally next door. Come early for some socializing\, tall tales\, and tire-kicking. The finish will be at the Black Bear Diner in Palmdale. \n\n\n\nThis driving portion of the event lasts about 2 hours and covers about 90 miles of our favorite roads. The Cruisemaster is Paul McGaffey. \n\n\n\nMore Info can be found at www.itnrally.org and on the Ron Dunlop Memorial Charity Cruise Facebook page at Log in or sign up to view. For any questions or more detailed information\, contact Paul at selmer6@gmail.com\, or call or text 310 350 1360. \n\n\n\nRReNews Note: Ron Dunlop\, for whom this Memorial Cruise is in honor\, has a lovely Last Checkpoint tribute written for him by Paul in 2022. You may view it here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Leave a ReplyCancel reply \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. SUMMARY:TX: San Antonio 2023 Historic Tour RoadRally
DESCRIPTION:San Antonio has had more battles fought within its city limits than any other town in North America. These battles occurred while San Antonio was under the jurisdiction of Spain\, the Republic of Mexico\, The Republic of Texas\, and the Confederate States of America\, not to mention the United States. This Road Rally will take you to the approximate location of each site. However\, the exact location of some of the sites is unknown\, and other sites were running battles that ranged over several miles. If you want a more detailed investigation of any site\, you are encouraged to revisit any site on your own and at your convenience—the oldest two sites date from 1813\, and the youngest one from the 1870s. \n\n\n\nThis is a non-speed social Road Rally whose route will be along city streets\, and speed bumps may be an issue for some cars. We will start on the west side of San Antonio\, proceed to the far south side\, and then complete our tour just north of downtown. It should take 90 minutes and two hours for this RoadRally as you learn about the history of San Antonio. Questions may be asked along the route\, but awards are not based on questions or a car’s finish position. This RoadRally is meant to be a fun learning event and a social outing where all participants will vote on awards at our final destination. \n\n\n\nOn the event day\, Saturday\, 12 August 2023\, participants will meet at the west side of the Walmart Superstore parking lot in San Antonio. Registration will be from 1:00 to 2:00\, with a safety briefing at 1:45. After the safety briefing\, cars will be released for the route which takes place on city streets. Our destination is The Longhorn Cafe at 1003 Tittiman Road in San Antonio.

SUMMARY:PA: ChesMont Historical Trek
DESCRIPTION:The SCCA Philadelphia Region presents the ChesMont Historical Trek on Saturday\, June 17th. \n\n\n\nThe ChesMont Historical Trek is a tour of several Chester and Montgomery Counties sites. This is a NON-COMPETITIVE EVENT. That is\, there are no trophies to be won and no pressure\, just a leisurely drive through the countryside. You can spend as much or as little time as you want at any stop. Or come back another day with your instructions when you have more time. The nearby Valley Forge National Historical Park is the first site we’ll visit.  Several\, but not all\, other sites\, such as the Paoli Battlefield in Malvern\, will have a Revolutionary War connection.  \n\n\n\nOur route will cover 60-70 miles (depending on which optional sites you visit). The route is paved\, so there are no worries about dirt/rocks. \n\n\n\nStart: We’ll gather at Panera Bread in the Gateway Shopping Center at 10:00 AM and handle Registration outside. Your registration packet will include the route instructions and publicity material for other upcoming events in the area. All participants must sign a liability release\, and non-members must fill out the Weekend and Trial Membership forms and Minor Waivers for anyone under 18 (please call Clyde Heckler before the event for Minor requirements). You may have as many people in the car as there are seatbelts in the car. \n\n\n\nYou may depart whenever you are ready\, but we encourage you to grab a bite to eat/drink at Panera and review your route instructions.   \n\n\n\nFinish: The Schwenksville\, PA area\, where several restaurants are available for lunch and are listed in the route instructions.   \n\n\n\nQuestions about the event can be sent to the Rallymaster Clyde Heckler (or call him 609-923-6306). \n\n\n\nEvent Requirements\n\n\n\nThe cost is $20 per team if at least one person is an SCCA Member and $35 per team if there are no SCCA Members. The non-member fee includes a $15 Weekend Membership fee and a $15 coupon toward Annual Membership if redeemed within 60 days. \n\n\n\nCars must be in working order and be insured with an auto insurance policy with liability limits of not less than $20\,000 /$40\,000/$10\,000 (no exceptions). Each entrant must certify that the car entered is legally on the road and is owned by the entrant or used by the entrant with the owner’s permission. Any participant under 18 must have a Minor Waiver printed in color and signed by all parents/guardians. \n\n\n\nNon-members are encouraged to complete their Weekend Membership forms before the event and bring them along to expedite Registration.

We’ll have a Safety Briefing at 915 AM\, and the first car departs at 930 AM. The rally spans a distance of 180 miles\, approximately five hours in length. The route is on paved roads in North Central Texas; we may encounter brief stretches of uneven pavement\, which may influence your vehicle choice on Rally Day. All vehicles are welcome: sports cars\, family cars\, classics\, antiques\, and anything with four wheels that’s street legal is okay in this Rally. Note: speed is not a factor. \n\n\n\nWe finish around 2:00 PM at El Conquistador Mexican Restaurant in Waco\, where we will share a beverage or meal with fellow rallyists from the Lone Star Region\, who will end their own Waco National Mammoth Monument Rally at this restaurant. \n\n\n\nAfter lunch\, teams may optionally visit Waco sights\, such as the Waco Mammoth National Monument\, Dr. Pepper Museum\, Magnolia Market\, and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum\, before heading home. \n\n\n\nNo requirement for at least two people in each car unless you separate from the group and rely on (backup) route instructions. Contact rally@texasscca.org if you have a minor child (<18) in the car\, as an official SCCA Waiver form will need to be signed \n\n\n\nWhile same-day registration will be allowed\, we encourage you to pre-register on Motorsportreg.com. The entry fee is $10 per vehicle\, which covers insurance\, route preparation\, and administrative expenses.

SUMMARY:Texas Region Sasha's Children's Book Run Rally
DESCRIPTION:Let’s close out the Rally season supporting a good cause while honoring Sasha Lanz! The Texas Region of the Sports Car Club of America would like to cordially invite all fellow car enthusiasts to this Trek rally benefiting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. No prior rally experience is necessary. \n\n\n\nA bit of history: Sasha Lanz was instrumental in building a successful RoadRally program in the SCCA Texas Region and leading it for many years. Sadly\, Sasha passed away earlier this year. One of his favorite events was the Children’s Book Run. Entrants were asked to donate 2 children’s books\, which were gathered at check-in on Rally Day. Over the course of the five years that we held the rally\, hundreds of books were donate to Sottish Rite!  We would like to keep this tradition alive and conduct a Children’s Book Run in his name every year.    \n\n\n\nThis year we plan to conduct the event as a Trek. This is a rally format recently added to the SCCA RoadRally event mix. A Trek is a non-competitive driving event on scenic country roads. No questions\, puzzles\, tricks or traps\, or timed controls\, just a fun (and stress-free) drive following a pre-determined route in northern Denton County using a “convoy style” format. We’ll provide basic route instructions as a back-up only. Weather permitting\, we’ll stop in Pilot Point for a group picture in front of a historic site. \n\n\n\nEach person in the car is asked to contribute two books\, which must be NEW books due to the Hospital’s current COVID-19 guidelines. They need books for all ages — 5 through 16\, including Look-and-Find books\, board books\, chapter books\, Spanish-language books\, etc. We will collect the books at Registration/Check-in. \n\n\n\nRegistration/check-in: 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm on Rally Day and Teams depart at 2:00 PMLength: 65 miles (~2 hours)Finish: The Horny Toad Café & Bar\, 5812 I-35\, Denton\, TX 76207\, where we can gather for announcements\, a beverage or meal and to receive a rally mementoRoute: paved roads in northern Denton County\, TexasVehicles: Sports Cars\, Family Cars\, Classic Cars\, Antiques\, anything with 4 wheels that’s street legal is OK in this Rally. SUMMARY:IL: Return of the G.O.A.T.S. Tour
DESCRIPTION:A number of years ago the Chicago Region SCCA held a tour-type rally to LaCrosse Wisconsin. Several of the entrants had their private radios with them to communicate with each other as we traversed the tour route. Conversation over the radios was minimal\, then suddenly the silence was broken! A voice came across the airways shouting “goats\, goats\, goats\,” and then it went silent. What we all found out later that day is that a small heard of goats were on the road just past a curve. Apparently the noise from the car and its driver yelling as loud as possible on the radio scared the goats away because no one else observed this obstacle.   \n\n\n\nNow\, we can’t promise you that same level of excitement\, nor do we want you to experience it for yourself on this Chicago Region SCCA Tour.  However\, if you join us this coming Saturday\, May 15\, 2021 the Chicago Region and its G.O.A.T.S. (Get Out and Tour Series) backroads tour series will provide you with an enjoyable day of driving\, using great Wisconsin backroads providing scenic views and plenty of turns and elevation changes.
