The Hagerty Spring Thaw is a budget-minded driving adventure through British Columbia for pre-1979 and earlier touring and sports cars, with exceptions for select newer cars per car (see the FAQ section for the Delorean Rule. This un-scored, non-competitive event takes place entirely within the province of British Columbia and consists of approximately 1200km of driving over three days. The Spring Thaw is organized by Squamish Classic Car Adventures using straightforward route instructions. Each entrant must read the Supplementary Regulations, which contain all the details and ‘rules’ for the event, before completing the Entry Form.
The Hagerty Spring Thaw will start on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, and finish on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. To ensure an “adventure,” the route will remain secret until competitors receive their entry packages at registration. Way-finding instructions will be detailed and clear and will not require any calculations or rally knowledge. The event consists of 100% paved roads with some mountainous terrain, and driving is scheduled during daylight hours. Car wash facilities are available at each overnight stop, though our definition of ‘facilities’ is rather loose. The coin-op down the road may suffice!
The Hagerty Spring Thaw Adventure is open to sport, touring and classic cars from 1979 and earlier. Sorry, no motorcycles on this event. All vehicles attending the Hagerty Spring Thaw are expected to meet legal roadworthiness standards at an absolute minimum. Generally guests should ensure their vehicles are ready for a long weekend of driving through back-country and winding roads, keeping in mind that short jaunts around town may not fully prepare your vehicle for long hours of remote highways.
Vehicles made after 1979 are considered on a case-by-case basis, under a rule we call “The Delorean Rule”. If you think your post-1979 car fits within the spirit of our events, simply enter as per normal and ensure we have some photos and background story on the car.
RReNews Note: At posting, we don’t have the starting hotel location, so we use a City Hall for the town.
We strive to keep our event listings current, yet both event organizers and our team may not get word of event changes posted timely. Please check with the organizers before making your travel plans.
