RReNews Update 220706 – We’ve received word that this date was postponed due to inclement weather. The new date is November 5th.
Once again, WDCR will undertake a Trek format Road Rally with a non-competition driving tour of the Virginia countryside on June 11th. The Dominion Rally Trek ’22 will depart from Dominion Raceway, located in Thornburg, Virginia, just south of historic Fredericksburg, and finish at Twin Oaks Tavern Winery, located in Bluemont, Virginia, located at the top of the Shenandoah Valley.
This heart-of-the-Region Tour will wind through some of central Virginia’s prettiest two-lane back roads, all paved and mostly twisty (including some very nice on-and off-camber sections). Along the route, all will be treated to spectacular mountain and valley views as the Trek travels through counties including Madison, Rappahannock, and Fauquier.
Beginning westward from Dominion, the Trek will skirt along Lake Anna’s southern and western shores as it works towards the Village of Mineral, the epicenter of the 2011 earthquake. Continuing, the Trek will travel to and through the villages of Orange, Gordonsville, and Madison, where all will stop for a brief lunch and fuel stop at a popular local BBQ restaurant.
After lunch, the Trek will meander northwest towards Sperryville and past Little Washington, home to the world-famous Inn at Little Washington. Continuing northwest through Hume, Virginia, home to The Marriott Ranch Bed and Breakfast, on the way to Marshall for the second stop at Callaway Classics, a classic car brokerage with a private showing of a great collection of classic cars for all to enjoy.
Leaving Marshall, we will continue north through the top part of Virginia’s prime horse
county, including a drive through historic Upperville, home to the Grafton and Salem
Showgrounds. The Showgrounds host the longest-running Colt and Horse show in
Virginia celebrating its 169th year in 2022 and will soon be registered as a National Historic
Landmark site. In the center of town sits the old stone Trinity Church that was transplanted from
England for a wedding. In the cemetery behind the church is the final resting place for Bill Scott,
the original owner, and developer of Summit Point Motorsports Park.
After passing under the bridge of Mount Weather FEMA headquarters on top of the Blue
Ridge Mountains, along 601, the Trek will end with a visit to Twin Oaks Tavern Winery located
along the Appalachian Trail in Bluemont, Virginia. All will be able to take in the beautiful
views from the elevated terraces and enjoy some very good Virginia wine after a day spent seeing the Virginia countryside.
