I was in high school. I was told, “you’ll be going,” by my parents. Whether I was to have a good time or not was up to me. In 2022, I celebrated my 48th year in the motorsport known as Road Rally. It has brought me friendships that shall last my lifetime and taken me on adventures across the United States — from Alaska to Wisconsin, Hawaii, Washington, Kansas, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Michigan, Minnesota, and the backroads of New England.
Never content with getting the word out about my chosen motorsport, I started Rally Productions in 1986 to keep the sport alive in Alaska, and the Alaska RACE News to get the word out about rallying, autocross, and the various forms of motor racing here in Alaska.
After founding the Arctic Alaska Region of the Sports Car Club of America to have a home for Road Rally in Alaska, I chose to be quite involved with all of the sanctioned programs SCCA had to offer, yet Road Rally stayed at the forefront.
We started working on Road Rally eNews in December of 2012 to make a community for road rallies across North America – for all road rallyists, no matter their sanctioning club. Through the generous support of time and the writing of articles on history, their memories of past events, and upcoming or post-event road rally events, we have been sustained by those friendships. It has been with the full support of the Sports Car Club of America and in association with them since 2013. We didn’t know where it would go; we wanted to have a calendar for all rallies and share the good news along the way. We want fellow enthusiasts to find the next Road Rally for them to enter, whether just around the corner or across the continent!
Please direct your questions, your desire to write a regular column (or a one-off article) or share news of your upcoming road rally to rrenews@comeroadrallywith.us. Of course, we welcome your post-event stories with photos and standings to share with fellow road rally enthusiasts. Join us on the adventure!
Yours for the sport, Cheryl Lynn
